Movie makers say that the film will go ahead
The team behind a biopic film about the life of Queen superstar Freddie Mercury say that the project is 'still very much alive', despite actor Sacha Baron Cohen pulling out of the movie back in July.
Earlier this year, the Borat and Ali G star's manager confirmed his departure from the project, stating that his client had quit the move due to 'creative differences'. Cohen had be signed on to star as Mercury since 2010. The biopic is being produced by GK Films. He is believed to have clashed with producers on a number of issues, with fans suggesting a disagreement over the movie's certiicate was the biggest issue between the two parties. Now Digital Spy report that insiders behind the film have stated that the movie is "still very much alive."
Original Queen member Roger Taylor was confirmed as music supervisor on the movie, while Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are producing the project alongside Queen Films. Source
Well they've already invested a lot of time and money into the project, so they are hardly likely to declare it a failure to the world. Not having a lead actor for such an iconic and demanding role is a major problem, lots of films much further into development have stalled for less.
I will re-state my opinion that this movie shouldn't be made because it would serve no cinematic purpose. It's not about protecting Freddie, it's just an unnecessary project.
With Brian and Roger in creative control it would just be a sleek Queen advertisement, a safe and nice product that builds myths around Freddie and champions his greatness.
Without Brian and Roger's involvement the movie would be edgier but it would still be just a biopic of a musician and those are very very rarely interesting films in their own right; usually little more than acted documentaries for the particular person's fan base.
Either way I wouldn't go see it because I'm already familiar with Freddie's life story and I would rather pay money for a story I don't know.
Sadly, QP come from the premise that people (including fans) want to pay money for things they do know already ;)

IF this will be a true movie about the band an the characters ( cocaine, gay sex, AIDS etc)...ok they can do it.
IF Not...they can do it and release it directly on youtube.
