Just watching some vids, and the Headlong video has stuck with me more than usual tonight; just watching it and taking in the fact that it was the last time we would see all four performing together in front of the cameras - very bittersweet moments.
That's all.
The hardest video to watch for me.
In slightly mad, his illness was obviously masked by the make up, to a certain extent, but the premise of the vid also distracted. Plus with the wig/suit etc... he just looked odd, so in some ways. for me, it's almost hard to differentiate this oddness from the signs of his illness.
From the moment I first saw DOOL, I read it as Queen admitting there was a problem. There was absolutely no pretense, It was clear even that wasn't possible. Just a very ill man bravely making the best of it.
But with Headlong, there was pretense. In the vid everything is apparently quite normal, and everyone is quite prepared to ignore the fact that Freddie looks gaunt and just generally terrible. I vividly remember being quite shaken when I saw that vid back in the day.
After the bad vibes of wondering why Freddie didn't appear in the Innuendo vid, Headlong was the smack in the face that something was very wrong indeed.
Slightly odd that as Innuendo was the lead single in most territories, they didn't consider making a video with new footage in it, as they had done with Headlong; as they'd done one for Headlong they clearly weren't too bothered about hiding Freddie's appearance.
the headlong video was shot in late 1990, freddie had a good day apparently and they used that to make a video. i guess that the video was made when the 4 were still working on the album because shots of them working and having fun in the studio are in the video. That's what i know.

Although he looks gaunt, I really like him in this video. He seems to be having fun no matter what. Besides, the stubble was very becoming.
I got confused - in 1991 - by the yellow Freddie and the blue. Former looked well but thin and latter looked not so well. I guess for others it's the other way around.
And rather than ghoulishness I consider "Freddie watching" a matter of care and concern.
I never really paid attention to the video when it was a single (1991 was a Queen fallow period for me) but took the time to look at it inspired by this thread. It's not bad at all with hindsight, but quite sad seeing Freddie so ill but giving it his all.
