When I was more young i was very interested in great stadium gigs, fascinated with large audiences and big stages, then, i realized small venues when the bands plays rarities and fans favourites are cool too. Now, i am more interested in hear the album tracks, with all the perfection the studio can bring.
It's not like i don't care about live music, of course, go to a gig is a great experience. But when i'm at home i usually listen the studio albums, more than the live albums and live recordings i used to hear.
What's your opinion and how change your taste in music through the years guys?
I don't think this implies that your taste in music has changed - it seems more to do with how you like to hear it performed.
I find that sometimes a live experience can rekindle my interest in a studio album (whenever it's possible to actually see one of my favourite artists/bands perform live, that is). For instance, went to see Meat Loaf a few weeks ago, and I've been listening pretty much constantly to BOOH since. I used to be easily bored by the length of the songs because sometimes I just didn't get it: but seeing them performed live brought about a freshness - and the meanings of the songs seemed to translate better. In essence, it gave me a better appreciation of the music.
In the instance of Queen: I love them and all, and there was a point in my life where I thought I'd never tire of hearing them. Wrong! I sickened myself, tbh. Just listening to the albums was monotonous. Now, I go through phases, where I'll revisit albums, love Queen again, and then go to something else. I'll always come back "home" as it were, but it could be months on end before I do (you'll notice this is when I leave QZ for a while and then come back lol). When this happens, I usually find that i hear something in a song I had never heard before. The freshness allows me to rediscover old work and see it in a different light.
Seeing Queen live with PR in 2008 and then Brian in 2011 totally sparked my love again at that point.
My other interests are Bowie, Floyd, Zep, AC/DC, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John (and many more lol) through to Midge Ure and even Andrea Bocelli - but if it wasn't for the latest Bowie BBC docs or seeing the likes of Paul McCartney, Billy, Elton, Midge and Mr. Bocelli live, it would all just become.....boring.
I also like hearing demos....how a track is stripped down, the processing going into it, the ideas that come and go, the ones that get kept....little things like this can make you want to revisit an album, and appreciate it. But I would never call an album the "definitive" version.
Some folk will agree, some will say a new mix will spark an interest - it's all down to how they like a performance to sound.
Studio recordings are great and they serve as the original recordings of songs by musicians, but I much more prefer hearing things performed live. Queen are a good example for me. To be honest, I don't know why but I do prefer hearing them perform their songs live over hearing them perform their stuff in the studio. Maybe it's all got to do with them being the kings of stadium rock (this might sound somewhat subjective, but it's just my personal opinion).
However, there are some musicians whose studio recordings I prefer over their live recordings, most likely because they sound better in the studio.
My music taste has greatly changed.
I rarely listen to rock and roll now. Most of what I listen to isn't from the last 60 years. I'm into everything from medieval choral music to Shostakovich and Gershwin.
If it's more modern, Bossa Nova seems to turn my crank right now.
good one! isn't that ^^^ normal(ish)?
we're supposed to evolve as human beings and always gain new experiences.
and it doesn't matter where you start off your musical or literary journey - your tastes should change.
at different points in my own personal experience i've been into rock, reggae, country, classical, hip-hop (1970s), glam, folk, irish folk, indie - you name it - one thing i would say tho is i've never strayed from rock - right thru from about 1973
right now i've found my way back to some stuff i heard at grammar school and flit in and out of down the decades - saint saen, smetana, rimsky korsakov and a little rachmaninov. slide that lot into sabbs, floyd, beatles, lizzy, purple, rainbow, dylan, strawbs, eagles, blackmore's night, rush etc - and even some bloody zep
it all makes for never being bored musically

Same here man!
I got some great Renaissance music from the Netherlands if you like.
I still like the same kind of music, but recently I also enjoy electronica and digitalized music. It's nice and full of energy. Here's one of my favorite Around The Block from Pretty Lights link
Lostman is right, someone may only mildly like a studio version of a certain song then upon hearding it performed live may just completely excite them to no end.
I know I can attest to that. I may get flamed but whatever. I never really cared for Zep's The Song Remains The Same. I know it a great guitar track by Jimmy & Robert sings fantastic on it. But it just never did anything for me, both the studio recording & live performances. At least not until I saw Page & Plant perform it in 1995. That version which included the back up guitarist from The Cure, his name escapes me at the moment, was simply brillant. I instantly became a fan of that song on the spot, Maybe its because I was there watching/listening to it being performed in front of me. I don't know. All I know is I was floored watching Pagey on his double neck dance all over his fret boards.
The last year I've actually started to like to electronica and tecno. Never done it before, so the whole genre is new to me.
When it comes to Queen, I listen to them less and less, but when I first do, it's really nice. I listen to Drowse almost every morning, though..
Sometimes I like a song I've never liked before, like 2 years ago i became fond of Hijack My Heart, and listened to it a lot. That's so nice when it happens. I hope the new "album" will bring us something we've never heard before, not just the Michael Jackson/Freddie Mercury collabs. Heard them allready, and they aren't very good.
SPOTIFY really opened a door for me. So easy to get new music, and that's pretty much all I listen to these days - "new" music.
Try these:
Phantogram - When I'm Small
STRFKR - Rownald Gregory Erickson the Second
Cults - You know what I mean
Chromatics - Lady
Norah Jones - Happy Pills
Citizen Cope feat. Carlos Santana - Son's Gonna Rise
Soko - I thought I was an alien
Warpaint - Undertow
Enjoy! : )
