At every convention for years, they have said: "Do not tape and spread these recordings, or we will stop playing these rarities for you at conventions." Take this down. |

Take this down.Even though i agree with what you've said, i think that in today's world they can't expect people not recording the conventions with their cell phones. Unless they are that naíve, wich i don't belive they are they better get used to demos being recorded and shared on the internet. As far as this demo is concern am i the only person that gets pissed off listening to this? I mean, shouldn't this be in the Freddie box set (that i own) in the first place? |

many demos queen where shared by convention... I see no difference.. |

Seems to me that QP isn't aware of the potential of the unreleased material they have in their own hands (and in their vaults). If they keep on keeping secret all this material and let only the lucky ones at the conventions have a quick listen they can't expect in my humble opinion for people not to record all of this for a simple little reason: QUEEN FANS ALL AROUND THE GLOBE ARE HUNGRY (if not mention ANGRY) for some unreleased material to be published. Now I know that some of us here in the forum have been really unpleasent with Mister Greg Brooks and I apologize for them but this is the result of 22 years of musical repression and he represent the only way we can connect with the QP world and make them realize how we feel about their attitude. Since the death of our beloved singer all that we got (other than Made in Heaven, Fm Box Set, some interesting books, singles box sets and little else) are dvd's from the '80s (predominantly from the Magic Tour and from one concert, Wembley) and Greatest Hits in all sorts of kind. I hope that with the Rainbow dvd QP will finally land to the right road and succeed in the hard task to make old fans happy and intrigue new hordes of people which in these days are hungry for good music... Now please don't shoot me, I'm only a keyboard player ;) |

I can't help but laugh when someone can say' "fuck you, SIR" :-) So unexpected |
Raffy 26.01.2013 08:52 |
The only reason why I can eventually justify QP for not publishing unreleased material is that most of it has been leaked over the years and they fear poor sales for an eventual box set of rarities. But they have to understand that a loyal fan is one which support the band and is always at the search for the most interesting releases to make the most from his collection and enjoy some good stuff in a decent quality. Mp3's recorded with a cell phone at a Convention will never replace studio quality. However I'm sure that they have a lot in their vaults which hasn't been leaked and has been kept secret for all this years (and this improvisation proves it). |

matt z wrote: I can't help but laugh when someone can say' "fuck you, SIR" :-)Me too ! To those who are shooting the messenger yet again... These recordings are incentive for people to come to the conventions. As much as we would like the entire archive to be released, we should not have a sense of entitlement. Let's not forget that it's their music, their history, their legacy. They can do with it what they please. And if that means they will play rare things at fan conventions and wish for these things to be heard there and only there, that is their right. They gave you 15 albums, bonus tracks, several live albums and a Freddie boxed set. They don't owe you a thing. |

M'eh...I don't know if we should be getting up in arms about this. First of all, the quality of the fanclub demo is no where near the quality that one would expect from a proper cd release. Secondly, and on a related note, I find it ironic that there is hubub about the fact that a person like David Fuller posts rarities and is subjected to youtube account termination (from QPL?) only to have his SAME account linked to from BM.com an officially sanctioned website -- seems to me that people are picking their battles. Long story short, in my mind, given the quality of the recording, I doubt there's anything to sniff about. ...my 2 cents. |
Marknow 26.01.2013 11:22 |
Another mountain from a mole hill on QZ, laughable. I find it hard to believe certain people who posted in this thread, and have never attended a convention, have no convention sourced recordings in their collection. Don't publicly share them, but spread them privately no problem. lol, greedy and selfish attitude. Exact same situation with live concert recordings, Queen have always made it clear on concert tickets that they do not want recording devices used, but we all have 300 or so concert recordings. Any chance of a download link? |

Marknow wrote: Exact same situation with live concert recordings, Queen have always made it clear on concert tickets that they do not want recording devices used, but we all have 300 or so concert recordings.Hi Mark, not quite the same. People recording concerts, would not stop Brian or Roger from ever touring again,(Badgers & Sarina might though!!!!) But....recording Demo's at conventions "When asked not to" would stop GB ever airing stuff again at cons'. Not that Greg would spit the dummy out, but more-so that he would get his legs slapped by QPL & told that he can never air theses rare demo's at conventions again. The first step to this problem was for us now have to put up with "Property of Queen Productions" running through them, next step, no demos aired at all, So all the convention go-ers would lose out. Personally for me, the archive sessions are the best part of the conventions. |
brians wig 26.01.2013 14:43 |
Ironically, I'm 100% convinced that the reason we got "Property Of..." plastered all over the later Archive session tracks is NOT because previous sessions had been recorded by attending fan(s), but because someone leaked copies of the actual CDs Greg played. Now, HOW do you think that happened.....? |
Marknow 26.01.2013 15:03 |
Of course people are going to record what GB plays at the conventions, many do and always will. Convention attendees of course enjoy the treat of listening to what Greg plays, and a fair amount of them record and circulate these recordings during the weekend. They are well spread by the final day on Monday, always have been and always will be, if you personally do not record you know someone who will and will catch them for a copy before you go home. That's the reality of the situation and has been for years. If you get to hear a demo or any other kind of snippet, you are going to forget about it in 2 weeks, that's why people do copy what Greg plays and always will. Greg is not so thick that he does not know it goes on, but he has to stick to his mantra. And it's not just nasty little kids from QZ either, not by a long shot, the biggest offenders are well into their 40's or 50's. People need to get off their high horse on this subject, especially those who have obtained convention recordings for their collections. QTV versions of Argentina 1981 & Hyde Park 1976 are convention sources too, we all have them. I think my main problem with the situation is that people who attend Conventions are somehow viewed by QPL as the deserving and chosen few, better fans than those who do not attend. I personally would love to go, not just for GB's spot, but to put some faces to names of some people I correspond with, but I simply cannot blow the best part of a £1000 to get to the east of England every year and I'm only across the pond in Ireland, imagine how left out life long South American, Japanese fans etc feel, it will never be feasible for them to attend conventions. But as a life long fan I feel I am due the same entitlements as those who do attend. And in the digital era QPL should wake up to this and address it. When these recordings are played in the public domain, albeit to a select few, only an idiot thinks nobody is recording them. I have as much right to hear this demo as any Queen fan. It would be a shame if GB stopped playing snippets, but anyone who blames that on Yuri is fool hardy. It's just human nature, and Yuri aint even the tip of the iceberg, he was barley born when others were doing it, and that is a fact. |

Well Mark, all of the songs played at that first Archive session leaked in 'studio quality' a few years later and they were the SAME recordings. Someone leaked THAT CD. Who did it we will never know... The funniest thing about the UK Convention is that, whereas 10 years ago it was easy to find someone who was not only willing but excited to talk about archive tracks and unnofficial video and audio recordings, it's not anymore. There's a big group of us from my neck of the woods go each year and I kid you not when I tell you that they go for the social aspect and care little for anything that's not officially released! I'd dearly LOVE to meet some fans at this years UK convention who WANT to talk about bootlegs and archive stuff.... (Any takers?) You may also think that there are plenty of people who record the sessions, though I think it's more likely been limited to just one or two at the most (I remember someone got caught the first year) and now that the archive sessions are held in a small room and are video, there's nobody recording them. |
