I just graduated from my honours degree, and i won student of the year!!! I'm so happy!!! It was a little embarrassing, and i still dont think i really deserve it (i had a good final average grade, but not an A average, just close), but apparantly i was the highest grade in the college for that subject... i'm so happy :D :D :D So i just had to start a boast-ey thread!
congratulations! How many year's of education so far? i am just trying to figure out if "graduation" over there means the same as here (india).
And what's the next step?
Again, congratulations!!
Congrats catqueen! That's a great accomplishment, and one well deserved I'm sure as I remember lots of sacrifice of fun and sleep for study on your part. Thanks so much for letting us know. :)

I think it is the same thing -- it's when you finish college. I didn't go to mainstream school, so i didn't have a 'normal' school leaving qualification (i grew up as part of a very strict religious group and they have their own schools and don't really encourage people to go to college). Because i didnt have a school leaving exam, i couldn't go to college straight away, so after a few years, i went to night classes for two years for a certificate qualification, that allowed me to go to 'proper' college (still part time, cos i had to work) for an ordinary BA, then last year, i changed college and did an extra year to get an honours BA. I don't know why they split BAs into ordinary and honours, but an ordinary is usually three years, honours is four. And you need an honours degree to do a masters. So i graduated from my honours degree, but i've been in college for 6 years counting the certificate. It's been a long struggle, particularly as my school education was so poor, and that i had to work full time most of that 6 years, as well as studying.
Now i'm in the middle of applying for a research masters, but i don't know if i'll get into it or not... and i don't even know if i want it. I desperately want to do it, particularly as this programme requires two hours of teaching per week, which means i'd have lecturing experience at the end of it which would help get a job lecturing. BUT my brain is tired, and i want a break from studying... plus i might have to give up work to do it... so i dunno what to do

OK so its an honour's BA. Here, that would be 10 + 2 + 3 + 1 years for education. And you wanna be a lecturer? I have educationists in my family for generations (even my sister) and I think that's one of the best"est" prefssions a human can choose from him/herself. You have my best wishes!
Argh, i'm seriously stressing about this application for a research masters tho -- i have a better chance of getting it if i apply to the college i did my final year in... BUT that means that i'll possibly be able to lecture there, cos there's an embargo on hiring new lecturers, so the best way to get in is through a research masters... BUT that college is an hour and a half away from where i live, and my boyfriend's work is here... so it's a long long long commute. Argh, i dont like making decisions!
