"Rhys, Is there any chance for re-release Freddie Mercury Mr. Bad Guy? Thank you" "Yes, plans to do so v soon" - rhysthomasFM (Reddit) Thoughts? |

milking the cow $$$$ |
AB-88 03.09.2012 13:31 |
A cash in... Yeah I initially thought that too but it could be a nice opportunity to release some of the remaining Freddie solo demos and such. Similar to the Queen deluxe re-releases last year ... one hopes anyway. |

Let's hope we get a new alternate version of awesome tracks like Yellow Breezes, Gazelle or God Is Heavy. |

you know we probably won't it'' be loads of instrumentals, 12"mixes, b-sides and stuff on the mercury box set |

great! |

I understand when we, as fans, whine a lot about the re-releases of magic tour dvds, greatest hits compilations when there's so much stuff from the 70's that need a proper release. I completely agree with that !! But now, are we complaining because a release of Mr bad Guy needs to have rare stuff? or that is just more of milking the cow? we are never happy aren't we ? we got a lot of demos and unreleased stuff from freddie in 2000 I think its time to have a proper Mr Bad Guy CD, remixed maybe but as close as the original as it could. Any extra freebies are welcome. In fact it should have been done before that compilation "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs" |

It was dissapointing to read that the rumoured Phantom demo by Freddie was infact a myth according to Rhys. |
AlexRocks 03.09.2012 20:54 |
I love "Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs: The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo" compilation! Things are going great! I am psyched at the idea of a re-release of "Mr. Bad Guy"! Question is...will it be released in the U.S. of A.? I would be thrilled at that release being remixed as well! Ow! Now Queen just need a new line-up again touring with members from The Queen Extravaganza and record and release new studio l.p.s! |
cmsdrums 04.09.2012 01:02 |
I don think that territories releasing or not releasing stuff is nearly as much of an issue these days when you can buy online from anywhere. Yes it may cost a bit more, but not the impossible job to hear or own this stuff as it once was. |

I actually think this could be all right - a new, mixed version of Mr. Bad Guy. Most of the songs sounds way too 80s! "Foolin' Around" is great though ;) |

Also, writing credits for all songs have been changed to "Brian May" to more justly reflect the creative process. |

mr bad guy is a terrible album. |
AB-88 04.09.2012 07:49 |
I didn't think the album was that bad at all. Mr Bad Guy and Man Made Paradise being two of my favourites. I wouldn't want to see the album "re-imagined" like the Barcelona re-release though. Would be nice to see some of the balance and EQ flaws addressed - a simple remaster would be ok in my eyes. I hope they'll do a bonus disc with newly uncovered rarities featured in the upcoming Freddie documentary - The Great Pretender. Would be a nice little package. |
Russian Headlong 04.09.2012 07:53 |
replace the synths with guitars and it would sound a lot better. Made in Heaven (Queen version) being an example. |

i'd love to hear that guitar solo of "man made paradise" played by brian. but apart from that... can't stand cress's "drumming". any computer has more soul. this album was ok in the 80s, nice to have in the 90's. covered with lots of dust in the 00's... and now... hum. let me think... nah. |

Oh boy, will we finally hear the version of "God is Heavy" with extra sneezing, or the forgotten Queen demo of the same masterpiece with a cough harmony from Brian and Roger. The sheer thought of such gems is making me feel all funny inside... |
DanQueen2008 04.09.2012 15:07 |
It is not a cashcow at all. What a lot of people don't understand that is currently all the albums that haven't been re-released on the new label are technically out of print. Because they have swaped record labels, their old label doesn't have the right to produce Queen music or anything else that was on that label, i.e. Freddie's solo album. This is why Universal have to release everything again because if they don't, they albums aren't available |
shamar 04.09.2012 16:39 |
DanQueen2008 wrote: This is why Universal have to release everything again because if they don't, they albums aren't availableBut they don't release "original Barcelona" but "Barcelona 2012". "Barcelona 2012" isn't original Freddie Mercury album but "remix album". |

"Barcelona 2012" isn't original Freddie Mercury album but "remix album". This kinda gets me thinking about what some people's expectations were for the Island 2011 remasters, actually expecting remixes. Now we get a remix (more than that, actually) and there's also controversy because it's not faithful to the original. Was there a similar outrage when The Freddie Mercury album and the remixes came out? |
Cruella de Vil 04.09.2012 23:14 |
Why bother? Just leave the album as it is. It is a product of it's time and Freddie Mercury's taste at that time. Whilst there are some good songs on it, it is hardly a classic. There are more important things in life to worry about! |
DanQueen2008 05.09.2012 07:47 |
If they're going to re-release it why not make it better? It was the same with the album remasters |
cmsdrums 05.09.2012 10:10 |
I agree with prinetom - the drumming, and the drum sound, is really not good on Mr Bad Guy |
shamar 05.09.2012 16:22 |
Wiley wrote: Was there a similar outrage when The Freddie Mercury album and the remixes came out?Remember it weren't new edition of old album. "TFMA/The Great Pretender" were just compilations of originals and remixes. And later "Remixes" EP with "Living on my own (no-more brothers mix)". DanQueen2008 wrote: If they're going to re-release it why not make it better? It was the same with the album remastersNo it wasn't the same. They recorded whole new parts of instrumentals on Queen remasters as they did on "Barcelona"? No. Just remastering of old stuff. |
dowens 05.09.2012 19:43 |
This shows how dumb I was. My first FM solo CD I bought was "The Great Pretender." You would never see Mr. Bad Guy in CD stores, so I always thought TGP versions were the original versions! I'm interested in a re-release, but highly doubt the MJ stuff will be included. That would be nice though. Why in the world did Brian and Roger record those tracks? I wonder if a MJ release was shelved... |
eddykoster 06.09.2012 04:22 |
Let's do a re-make of Mr. bad guy! Completely arranged by a live-rockband, with no synthesizers :) Or not? And what kind of bonus-content can we expect? Or was it all released on The solo collection from 2000? Just a said before, we are never happy anymore, always commenting milking the cow. But on the other hand, it is amazing that a band can do that, for so long without lead singer, Queen is still popular that they can release special editions. Queen is a leader on this market, like Queen has done before to be the first in many things. That all these re-issues are "acceppted" (in a way that they sold enough), is maybe also a standard for other bands, like Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, David Bowie, etc. to release also their catalogue with bonus content. Why always bad critics about re-releases? That is a discussion that will remain forever. I am very HAPPY with my new 4-disc set of Barcelona. But from a special edition we always expect the best, and it could always be better in our minds. Maybe we can expect a remaster of Freddie Mercury-Solo 3cd, by Universal/Island, incl. also the 1988 version of Barcelona? I first look out to a release of Hungarian rhpasody, the Budapest 1986 concert. Eddy Koster |

Look at differences: link "TGP album" has that slow remix of "TGP song" but "TFMAlbum" has original version. I don't know why they changed tracklists. Anyway: Time (1992 remix) and In My Defence (1992 remix) sounds really good, close to the originals, just more modern. That way should sounds "Mr. Bad Guy" new edition. |

"New York (early version)" or "you're not the only one" just to name two of the common known ones :-). aswell, of course as the MJ-collabs. furthermore there's the "time"-performance from '88. neither included. the point is: as likely everybody here would love to have these in descent quality, the unlikely it is that thus stuff will ever be published. as i noticed before... a proper drummer would be the best choice to envalue the album. maybe some kind of queen-guitarist for the solos that where meant to sound like queen. huh ? wait a moment... we DID have this in 1995, didn't we ? and for the "barcelona"-remake... if you don't like it, avoid hearing it. helps big time! ahja... btw.: get lost. |
