FILTER SCREEN Freddie Mercury The Great Pretender * * * EAGLE ROCK. DVD/BR Queen diva's life and - mostly solo - times explored. Soundtrack composer David Arnold sums up Freddie Mercury's talents perfectly here: "No matter how ridiculous the idea, Freddie could always sell it to you with the performance." His statement is compounded by hilarious scenes of Mercury cavorting unself-consciously with the Royal Ballet Company in 1979; one of the many rare clips located by producer, director and uber-Queen fan Rhys Thomas. While it's refreshing to hear Brian May and Roger Taylor talking candidly, and not uncritically, about their former bandmate, The Great Pretender's main focus is Mercury's underwhelming solo work. As one of several 'talking heads'. Comic actor Matt Lucas maintains that Barcelona, the singer's 1988 collaboration with opera star Montserrat Caballe, was the apogee of his career. Most, though, will come away more convinced than ever that Mercury was only at his ridiculous best when he was with Queen. Mark Blake YOU SEE HOW BORAT IS BEING NEATLY SQUEEZED INTO THE INOCOMPARABLE UNMATCHED ARTISTIC PERFECTION THAT MADE UP BOTH FREDDIE'S STAGE AND COMPOSER IDENTITY AND IMAGE BY HOW THE SO CALLED REVIEW ABOVE IS FRAMED AND WORDED compounded by hilarious scenes of Mercury cavorting unself-consciously with the Royal Ballet Company in 1979 Mercury's underwhelming solo work. Mercury was only at his ridiculous best when Mark Blake SHAME ON YOU! |

Neither do you, so a little modesty would be in order. You let Brian do the thinking for you, and are proud of it, remember? |

Mercury was only at his ridiculous best when Mark Blake SHAME ON YOU! "...Borat being neatly squeezed..."? Huh? You really are drawing a long bow with that statement dude. I'm reasonably adept when it comes to English, and your reading between the lines needs some serious re-callibration. Still, it has to be said, I like the fact that the Queenzone forum extends it's welcoming arms to everyone -including our OCD suffering friends. |

Is this true? Did Mark Blake, music critic and author of Is This the Real Life? Queen the Untold Story - review the new release The Great Pretender and say that Freddie was at his "ridiculous best" with Queen? Why would he say that? Disappointed. So many people, including him have cashed in on Queen. Is this the same person? "Ridiculous best"? Huh? Is that a back-handed compliment or a straight forward criticism? |
brENsKi 03.09.2012 12:19 |
what is so bad about the comment "ridiculous best" i would say that's a compliment think about it, everything about freddie's queen persona was ridiculous. the cotumes, the throwing roses at the audience, the toasting the crowd with champagne...c'mon really? you don't think that's ridiculous? - it's so ridiculous it created a legend....strip away the garish show and freddie was an ordinary man...but that was away from the limelight ridiculous best is a perfect description of freddie, and probably one of the reasons i noticed queen in the first place 38 years ago |

Rediculous and Hilarious are both words purposely used in the above promotion of Sacha Baron Cohen by a paid media whore, to make way for the coming pathetic, mean, cheap, lacklustre, unintelligent, comedy based performing idiot version of Freddie Mercury, as milked by Sacha Baron Cohen to the applause and praise of the dumbed down chimplike, uneducated class of the century, in the years of the culturally redundant savages. |
