SACHA Baron Cohen is having vocal coaching so he can sing like the late Freddie Mercury..(more) link |

Coaching would be a start. Next step would be to, I dunno ... change the shape of his skull, his nasal cavity, the dimensions of his entire throat, the vocal cords themselves ... Really good impersonators are sort of clued-in to using the voice like a synthesiser - paying attention to the minute details of whoever it is they're aping, and then modulating the aspects of their voice to get as close as they can to it. I'm not knocking SBC, but I've never seen him do anything that'd suggest he's that good a vocalist or impersonator-person. Dunno why they don't just dub the singing in. *shrug* |

Quite simply AWESOME |

Difficult one to pull off Another issue would be that Freddie's voice changed and he became a much more powerful live singer circa 1980 Then, of course, his voice did suffer a bit live from the American leg of HS tour only to be back bang on form at Live Aid I |

Oh my precious baby Lord, can't wait for Sasha to start dancing around at the talk shows as Freddie. After all of his masterpieces as Borat, Bruno, the Dictator and others, it's inevitable, right? Right? *pissed off face* |

I don't think SBC needs to sing just like Freddie, not to the extent that Gary Mullen or even Marc Martel does. There are Queen tribute band singers with just a passing resemblance to Freddie's voice, and the resemblance is more in their pronunciation and diction when singing than vocal tone. But once they put on the costume and break out the Freddie moves, that's enough to sell the illusion to the audience. I think that's all SBC has to aim for. I don't think scenes with Freddie singing are going to make up a major part of the movie timewise anyway since it's a drama and not a concert film or even a musical. |

So seeing he will be able to sing like Freddie and create the illusion he is actually Freddie, and as there wont be much Queen live on stage, ( in the Freddie Biopic which is about the greatest live perfomer ever in the history of music, seeing as all that is taken care of, he only need worry about his attempt at dramatic acting. So Everything is fine, isnt it? Delusion is the new illusion? A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary.[1] Unlike hallucinations, delusions are always pathological (the result of an illness or illness process).[1] As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, or other effects of perception. link I was mocked and called deluded, even though with a convincing argument that was obvious. But now all that mockery will go back where it truly belonged in the first place. |

I think Sacha will capture Freddie's humour and zest for life perfectly. He will also win an Oscar, even though the film hasn't been made yet. Above is another example of someone thinking in a delusional manner in regards to Sacha Baron Cohens' acting ability . Grossly over egging it, with the help of his own imagination, before the fact, delusionally wishing him to deliver the persona of Freddie Mercury. Which he wont. Then again, it does come from someone who works in comedy and knows how "the machine" works, insestuous and vain, and full of trash being honoured and awarded as worthy. Or you could call it the new disease of SBC fans, i.e.- wishful thinking, helped with a hint of the knowledge of helpful hollywood croneyism and corruption. But shit is shit even when it is awarded (even though the film hasn't been made yet.) |

In the end it reminds me of that scene from the omen, where the nanny stood on the window ledge screams out, "Damien Damien !its all for you Damien" That is how Queen will die, giving Freddie to Sasha. After all, it is all for him. |
qz08927 02.09.2012 22:07 |
I have no doubt whatsoever that Freddie would never say yes to sacha Baron Cohen playing him. Freddie respected peoples work, yes, he would respect Sacha's unique comedic abilities, but he knew the difference between what Sacha does and what actual true acting is, he would think the idea a sick joke and not worthy of further discussion. I have no doubt whatsover about that, because Freddie knew what was what. And ,Rhys Thmas has more serious acting ability in his left toe than Sacha Cohen will ever have, but Rhys obviously is blind to what Sacha can and cannot do, this is suprisingly dumb or sucking up, i dont know which. Experts are not needed where judging acting skills are concerned, audiences know if someone can act or not. Acting is about believability and that it is helped by plausability. Sacha Baron Cohen not only believes but knows he cannot act and everything that is unplausable to him is plausable and will do just fine. And seeing as i am his only living critic, he should be thankful that he has the oppertunity to face reality. |

I repeat: he is not part of QP Bri & Rog make the calls at the end of the day...and John gets his check ofcourse 8-) it's so easy... For this message 1sharppencil has received thanks from : Kes |

The prospect is simply the most horrific and appalling thing ever concieved. Oh, why not go on, let him balls up Freddie's life story, maybe it will be funny , who cares. It's not that important anyway. He is dead! after all. |

It is worth pointing out here that qz08927 (a.k.a. Jeremy Kapone) is spamming this board because he honestly believes that Brian May and Roger Taylor would have chosen him, the whiny, talentless ego-maniac he accuses S.B.C. to be, over Cohen to play Freddie in the upcoming movie. He needs, in this particular order, 1) a ban from QZ 2) mental healthcare 3) a good talking-to from his mum and dad. |

When the Queen Extravaganza contest was running last fall, he/she spammed several boards and YouTube promoting Raphael Donadieu, a Queen tribute band singer from France. With all the "research" qz08927 has done for the biopic, I'm amazed that he/she hasn't realized that in the past, many comedians have turned out to be excellent dramatic actors. I remember reading an article about this that suggested the best comedians have a real understanding of human nature and the human condition. They usually use this understanding for comedic effect but it can be just as useful in drama. |

i think he is an better actor than he has shown yet. He is a smart guy and playing such dumb characters is still acting. I could imagine that he really will surprise some of us. And he guarantees, that the movie will be a Blockbuster. "Borat playing Freddie?" Many people will want to see it. And then i hope comes the big surprise, as he shows he really can do drama |

And then i hope comes the big surprise, as he shows he really can do dramaSorry but i think you will find Sacha to be the exception to the rule. Some comedians are good dramatic actors that is true, they are not exceptional ,but passable as dramtic actors. Sacha Baron cohen is not one of them, infact he is pitiful at acting, like really, really bad. He was most secure in his one role, the role he really believed in, the role he invented and really felt at home in and felt sure was a truth because of his political mind, that was Borat. He is at home with what is "rediculos and hilarious" BUT ONLY if he believes in the politics. There is going to be an attempt by him to portray FreddME-Mer-c-mock-ory using that mind, where he acts lost in a rediculous and so hepefully in his mind hilarious universe. But it is mockery in the end a bad mocking mimick, no reality no truth no believability , a disaster, a total disaster by an amateur, which is the worst insult possible to Freddie's memory, an amatuer failing . Jeremy Kapone would be Freddie Mercury. It is that simple. |
