It's not polite to take credit for something that someone else taped. Nonetheless - thanks for putting it all in one convenient place. Appreciate it. This may be the last Queen show ever performed. |

I don't have much of a vested interest since it isn't my band ! But I do find it amusing when fans think they somehow have veto power over what the remaining members of a band choose to do after someone dies or leaves the band. With that logic - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis and AC/DC should have all been renamed. |

I appreciate your response so I have to say none of the bands you mentioned had a front man as iconic and absolutely irreducible from the name of the band he named. Other bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, The Who would have gotten kicked around for going on with their singer too. Not just Queen + Insert Inferior Here.YAFF wrote: I reckon you are tired of hearing this or similar remarks but Queen's last show was August 9th 1986 at Knebworth Park. With that logic - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis and AC/DC should have all been renamed. Now Black Sabbath got lucky because they found an infinitely better singer than Ozzy with Ronnie James Dio but...interestingly, they did finally go out with a new name Heaven & Hell" at the end and Most Sabbath fans only consider Ozzy as Sabbath. AC/DC. Only two albums in with Bon Scott hardly anyone had time to notice the change. Pink Floyd? Naw since David Gilmour sang on the "hits". But, actually, with out Roger Waters they went downhill so fast perhaps they should be excluded. The other bands you mentioned just didn't have a frontman like Mercury (not many do) so they could get away with it? Peter Gabriel. Great artist but the band completely changed their sound and image with Phil Collins who was himself already a success. Chicago? Huh? Was that one a ringer? What no Styx or REO Speedwagon?. Anyway, horse beaten to death and even a little beyond. |

None of those bands ever had to replace Freddie Mercury! There's a very good reason McCartney and Starr have never pretended they're "The Beatles"...... |

Not just Queen + Insert Inferior Here.Perhaps, but it really is hard to say without it happening. But you're right, Queen do stand above the rest, with very few exceptions. Just about anyone with functioning ears and eyes will agree that Mercury is the greatest rock singer/frontman ever to live. But I just don't see why that should somehow require the remaining members of the band to change their name when they play a few gigs. It's apples and oranges. Would the music sound any different if they picked another name? No doubt you are very musically (and likely otherwise) educated, so thanks for the civilized chat here. Iommi came out before hand and could have not been more clear - "We are not Black Sabbath. We are Heaven And Hell. We will be playing songs from two albums. We will NOT be playing Paranoid. Do not shout for it. We will not play it. And don't complain because we did not play it." And of course people shouted and soon complained. I like people. |

They eventually won folks over. They probably could've just went as Heaven & Hell back when they did that classic album and then the followup "Mob Rules". The Sabbath brand had been on steady decline with Ozzy when he jumped ship. Dio gave Sabbath another run but they would've avoided much of the hardship by just going with the new name as they did with their (this lineup) last album, "The Devil You Know". Look I'm a huge Dio fan (second to only Freddie) but even I think they should've dropped the Sabbath name. Likely the record label wouldn't have it.Now Black Sabbath got lucky because they found an infinitely better singer than Ozzy with Ronnie James Dio but...interestingly, they did finally go out with a new name Heaven & Hell" at the end and Most Sabbath fans only consider Ozzy as Sabbath.I love when people mention this tour.
