brENsKi 22.05.2012 16:21 |
staggering....couldn't say i saw that one coming...not like they EVER pulled that stunt before :-) |
waunakonor 22.05.2012 21:21 |
You didn't even bother to do a little research on it before you spent money on the thing? That would probably have been smart. |

When the original Parlophone 2008 Tour Edition came out, it did not list individual songwriting credits, just "All songs by Queen + Paul Rodgers." The Hollywood Records version a few months later actually listed each song's writer. Sounds like Universal is taking their cue from Hollywood Records. Does the new Universal edition claim to be remastered or anything? If it was simply a re-issue by the new label, with no bells and whistles, it's no crime. The album is part of their catalogue, of course they'll release it under the new label. If it didn't have anything new, I wouldn't have felt any obligation to buy it. |

Maybe a track by track commentary on why most of the album was bad, rushed, poorly conceived, hurriedly executed. Or maybe that's something only Spinal Tap would do...like on SHARK SANDWICH. Ftr: I like a few tracks... A lot. Just too much bad stuff on it, bad mixes even. And a jaw dropping laughingly stupidly titled song: SURF'S UP, SCHOOL'S OUT. Overall, it didn't have the vitality or fun of a Queen album, but it had the MOR flavoring of a Bad Company album, but none of the spice and sting of an ORIGINAL (line up) era FREE album... But it was nowhere near as bad as an album by THE FIRM. Thanks for the warning... I wasn't looking to buy it again anyways. I lucked out and spent an extra $5 to get the one with the Japan highlights on DVD... That was great. Album art sucked balls though. |

Seriously, what is it with the need to inject negativity into every subject on Queenzone?? Pathetic! |

I new that there were no extras on the disc, but i thought it might have been remasterd. But no it is the same release as before with just a new cd case.I already have the release with the Super Queen in Japan DVD,which is available again, though Amazon want nearly £20 for it. |

"SURF'S UP, SCHOOL'S OUT" - there is really a song on it called that?! Wow, Q+PR are soooo cool... |

Surf's Up is a great Roger track, IMHO. Cheers, Ogre- |

Pathetic!==== It's easier for most people to complain than it is to offer anything worthwhile. What amuses me most is when positive comments appear, the posters are accused of being sycophantic Yes Men who blindly accept every Queen release as the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's never going to stop, so my approach is to try to leave value judgements to a minimum now and advance our collective knowledge. |

Maybe it's as simple as Paul Rodgers' legal team doing it's job. Maybe this clears the way for a possible reunion tour. Maybe there's a lot of things we don't take into account when a label releases something. File under "Felder, Don". |

Fair point. I'll withdraw my humorous blight next time and save it for an analysis of the album, rather than its packaging and additional/lack of content. I DID mention there were some good songs; and that the preferred version would undoubtedly be the one with a bonus dvd. THAT bit, was exciting. Its just a catalogue #, but I don't see why "Runaway" wouldn't be included, for the simple fact that it was made during those sessions. Was the fan base anticipating a release of the 46664 studio tracks?? Maybe "take love"? |

can somebody, please, post the track writing credits of "Cosmos Rocks"? Thanks in advance) |

Should we read more into the order of the second and third contributors? We know the first one is the one who took the lead but what about the order of the other two? For instance, We Believe says "May, RODGERS, Taylor" and Some things that glitter says "May, TAYLOR, Rodgers". On the other hand, Say it's not true has "Taylor, RODGERS, May" which is weird because I would assumed Brian had a lot more to do with that track with the big production on the new arrangement. |
Benn 24.05.2012 09:36 |
Brilliant, so the songs are STILL credited to Queen + Paul Rodgers then. Marketing genius if ever I saw it. |
cmsdrums 24.05.2012 14:22 |
That really is an exercise in ego isn't it?! Crediting Say It's Not True to all three of them is crap - RT wrote it, and that's a clear fact from the original version. The Cosmos Rocks version is simply an arrangement, no change to the structure, lyrics, chords etc. You may as well give Five, Dappy, Britney/Beyonce/Pink, John Farnham etc a writing credit for WWRY. They didn't credit Heaven For Everyone to Queen on the Made In Heaven version, and it stayed as credited to RT, despite a very big re-working, and the fact that they had made big noises about always crediting all songs to the band regardless from The Miracle onwards. |
rhyeking 24.05.2012 16:36 |
Well, it swings all three ways, doesn't it? "Say It's Not True" was a Roger-penned track dating from the 46664 days and is credited to him alone on Return Of The Champions. "War Boys" was a Paul track before Q+PR, on his Live In Glasgow release. "Some Things That Glitter" is called "I Loved A Butterfly" on Kerry Ellis's album and is credited to Brian alone. I pretty much disregard the second and third names on The Cosmos Rocks song-writing credits as an indication of who wrote what, given the inconsistencies they represent. The first name is basically the writer (or at best, "originator"), or so it seems. Beyond that, the rest of the catalogue is pretty consistent with who wrote what, with the odd hiccup that probably has nothing to do with the band themselves. So it's not worth worrying about. While we're on the subject of song-writing credits, I'm sort of curious why the editor of The Complete Illustrated Lyrics didn't credit Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee as co-authors of "See What A Fool I've Been," as not only was the song based on "That's How I Feel," it uses basically an entire verse from the blues track. This mystery was solved in 2004. |
