Is it this band? link
If so, then they have another singer, as Craig Pesco is nowhere to be seen on the website.
I saw them a few years back, and I was pretty disappointed. Pesco was pretty good, but the rest of the band was mediocre. The guitarist plugged a Les Paul into a Marshall, the bass player did a solo with Beatles and Stones songs, and the drummer looked like he was falling asleep at times.
Pesco pretended to play piano (it was such an angle that you couldn't see his hands), and many of the backing vocals were on tape. That said, I met them after the gig and they were very nice guys.
Yes Bob, same band, same website. I didn't realize Craig wasn't in the lineup anymore, but he was in the line-up at all the 3 shows I've seen them, so it was probably a recent change.
I've posted before about seeing these guys.
My impressions was pretty close to The Real Wizard's.
Pesco was great, Guitarist was good but sounded nothing like Brian May, Bass was OK and Drums were gawdawful.
Yeah the drumming is SO stiff, there is no resemblance whatsoever to RT's style!
At least Gary Mullen's drummer has somewhat of an idea how RT's style SHOULD sound like
Pesco and the guys left the organisation (Showtime) once their contracts ended and went out on their own as Showtime are supposedly a 4 million dollar business yes their band members were getting a crap wage by comparison (Sheffield brothers style, how ironic!) . Showtime recently hired the Argentinian Tribute band (they work for low wage by comoparison , given their local economy) and toured them in Oz, I'd rate them much more highly than Pesco and co though.

You might rate them higher than Pesco & co., but I just found out through some poking around on Facebook that the Oz tour with the new line-up was actually unsuccessful, and punters didn't know what to make of the show and its new line-up - they were actually left wondering what show they were watching, since Showtime were still trying to sell it as the SAME SHOW!
@ Zebonka: When you say there have been a lot of complaints about QIAKOM, was this mostly directed at the line-up BEFORE the members' mid-2010 departure, or the new one installed afterwards?
Ah - yeah the one I used to hear bad word-of-mouth for was Pesco and co. The South American chaps are better, although from what I was told about their last show here, it wasn't outstanding.
For Pesco? Horrible live sound (apparently very harsh and loud). I don't remember too many people being impressed by his Freddie, but this was some years ago and I haven't seen too many videos of him.
For the South American guys that are doing it now, I don't know a lot. I heard that the crowd interaction was minimal and that there might've been a bit of playback. Again, I wasn't at the show though. This was passed onto me by someone else.
He's still more Freddie than a lot of pisspoor S. American / Italian bands I've checked out on YouTube.
And he's a pretty nice guy, he and the band always took the time to meet and greet the fans after the shows.
He probably would sound a bit more like Freddie if his vocal range didn't force him to sing a semitone lower
"he's a pretty nice guy"
I'm sure he is .. but he's a terrible Freddie, if the criteria is 'look or sound like Freddie Mercury'. If he wasn't dressed up like him, I wouldn't be able to tell what he's doing.
I think they cover different areas. Gary (when his voice isn't shot ..) is pretty powerful and he has a lot of the mid-80's articulation down. The Queen for a Day guy is probably who I'd go to for the 70's approach. The bloke I play with (Tom Crane) has a great range and excellent control. Sometimes (moreso during soundcheck when he's doing impromptu stuff) it's actually spooky to listen to.
There are good singers doing Queen in other countries, but I tend not to bother with them because their accents are frankly hard to listen to. I know they're doing the best they can, but yeah.
I'm pretty much with you on that: Gary's got the 80s stuff down (especially the mid 80s stuff), and Gregory Finsley (Queen For A Day and Queen Nation), is the man for the 70s stuff!
I only know that when I saw Pesco he was very good (and I'm pretty picky).
My wife was blown away - but she's not as much of a Queen purist as me.
I don't think anyone has got it down like Gary Mullen though. He's the only guy I'd pay to see at this point.
"when I saw Pesco he was very good"
Was it some kind of golden age before people knew how to record him?
I dunno. He seems like a nice guy from what I've heard people say when they've met him, and he's not even a bad singer - but he's nothing like Freddie in any way.
