Is the Miracle the 10th worst album cover of all time? http://www.zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/badalbumcoverstopten/toptenbadalbumcovers10.htm I've never liked it but judging by some of the other monstrosities on that website, I'd say it's not even in the top 750. Hilarious to read the Stepford Fans' responses to the vote: well done guys! My personal favourite is this one: http://www.zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/heino.jpg Isn't he adorable! |

Nice! I've done the translation on the latter cover: "Freedom Matters" "All big fat lies. I bring flowers" "Wikileaks" "Don't Forget to Hit the Tip Jar" |

At first glance it looks like "I love my mother", which seems appropriate somehow. He probably has her buried in the cellar. |

"FxxKER. What the fxxk is Queen's 'The Miracle' and 'A Kind Of Magic' sleeves up there for? All the other bands are one-hit wonders, or non-hit musicians... but Queen is big! Seems to me someone is homophobic." Jacob Britt ^Can't believe no-one commented on that! Also, one that actually made me laugh out loud. ''My dear sir-- the only exemoron [sic] i see around here is the same face you see in the mirror when you shave your balls!?!?!'' ^That's an interesting insight. ;-) |

Plus, the 'Miracle' cover isn't as bad a David Fuller's version of it! |

Can't be bothered to even check the link, the cover is fine for me, immediately recognisable. |
Flash Jazz 03.04.2012 08:45 |
What? The Miracle has an AMAZING cover, easily one of the best |
Flash Jazz 03.04.2012 08:46 |
They should have picked The Game instead, HORRIBLE album cover and the only bad album cover from Queen |

"A flower bouquet that will never wither" & "A gift throughout the year" is what it actually says. Heino was later discovered to be an advanced scout for an alien albino race wanting to take over the earth, and vanished from the public eye. His home planet has replaced him with several hamsters and rabbits, easily recognisable by their white hair and red eyes. The takeover is not expected to happen anytime soon. |

I'll defend The Game. Originally the cover was shiney silver, not grey and I think the photo was to show that this isn't the "Night At The Opera" Queen anymore. They growed up. It also tied in with the Crazy Little Thing video that was really hot at the time. I can't defend the Works though. Looks like a family Christmas card photo taken at Sears. |

The people commenting on that website trying to defend Queen in a very poor manner that is kind of an insult to Queen fans, although funny, aren't very interesting mainly because there are people who talk like that all over the Internet. After reading a couple of those comments I stopped because I got the point. "Ha ha, look! People on the Internet talking stupid like! Never seen that one before!"
I find it kind of hard to hate The Miracle cover mainly because of how much work was put into it. Besides, I really don't see how the picture is at all "scary" like the website suggests. A little bland, maybe, but scary?

Now that is scary, but also really awesome! News of the World followed by Innuendo and Queen II; those are also a little scary, but still awesome. |

The best thing about The Game cover? the "Bike It" stamp on John's shirt!! I have the LP and is nice, silver not grey (cause is the USA version, i think the japanese version is silver too) |

I've never cared much for it, even though I'm wearing a shirt with the album cover on it right now. Lol. Though I'd never wear it in public, cos admittedly, it's pretty frightening to look at. My favourite is probably News or Queen I. |
brENsKi 05.04.2012 12:39 |
it always struck me as being a little too "primary school art class" like someone physically cut bits of the heads out of photos and stuck them down so they overlapped hard to explain but it's definitely a "you can see the joins even tho it's not obvious" moment |
mooghead 05.04.2012 14:56 |
The Miracle was brilliant for its time but dated very quickly. Obviously Queen II has the best sleeve but the best artwork of all has to go to Innuendo. |
mooghead 05.04.2012 15:00 |
Just realised I said 'sleeve'... check out the Grandad thinking about vinyl! (I'm only 36 ffs!) |
Holly2003 05.04.2012 15:38 |
Look grandad the best sleeve is obviously, indisputably News of the World. Giant robot attacks band. Green and red. Gatefold. All it needs is some photoshopped lightning and a unicorn and it would be better than Picasso, Salvadore Dali and Matt Groening put together. Anyone who claims different is a mutant from Hell's molten core. |

Mooghead makes a good point, since that sort of technology becomes obsolete very quickly, it's not surprising that the artwork seems dated |
dysan 06.04.2012 04:16 |
I don't like the back cover. Creeps me out. AKOM of probably the worst IMO. It's like so many of those mid 80s pop things featuring cartoon wolves and female singers. Naff. Like Jive Bunny. |
Flash Jazz 06.04.2012 06:57 |
I honestly don't see what's so bad about The Miracle. I think it's still an amazing cover |
Stelios 06.04.2012 06:57 |
Innuendo cover is for me the best because it leaves so much to imagination and ...well innuendos. I remember also the single covers and the back of the lp ( the lp was given to me by a guy who died from drug overdose years later!) So many deep impressions! So biger than life! Dark in a "cosmic irony" kind of way. Bright colorful and strangely funny but when combined with the music is forcing you to paint all the shadows and gravity. |
Stelios 06.04.2012 07:14 |
The Miracle cover it was like saying... 1) Queen is a monster 2) Queen is beyond their times 3) Queen is tottaly and still one force 4) Queen is more than the sum of its members 5) Brian's hair are essential for the Queen concept to work full force. |

I admit, I probably have little perspective at this point when it comes to Queen album covers, since I'm so used to them. When I was buying the albums for the first time, there was nothing within reason the cover could to stop me from liking it. When you're in the flurry of discovering their work, It all seems so new and exciting. Also, I was dealing mostly with a combination of the 1991 HR cassettes bought from stores and the original LPs found at yard sales. The HR cassettes actual modified the covers a fair bit to fit the long, narrow shape of the tape case, so what I was used to seeing for the longest time wasn't the full, proper image. For example, the Sheer Heart Attack cover was cropped and the image was reversed (the text was still correct). The Works was long and stretched vertically, giving it a Rubber Soul sort of look, plus it had a pinkish border framing the stretched image of the band. So, yeah, these days they all look fine, with the except of those that are just classic (Opera, Queen II, SHA, etc.). None look bad to me. The Game works best as the silver LP, which I own, but the grey works, too. To me, it says, "Here's the band and here's the album. The album's got a simple, straightforward sound. If you've seen the CLTCL video, you know what we're talking about. That'll be recurring imagery here: leather jackets and some attitude, Queen style. Shut up and buy this album!" The Miracle? I can understand it freaking people out. It IS weird. But in a good way, I think. Queen don't have to preach to the converted, so for newcomers in record shops it's an attention-getter. Beyond that, the blue sky and clouds, the bright open spaces totally fit the clean sound of the album. I know a lot of folks don't like the synthy-ness of The Miracle, but as I've said before, it's refreshing to me to listen to this album, where not every song is weighed down by heavy instrumentation and wall-to-wall production tricks. It sounds like the band is having fun and the cover reflects that. |
