ronnie montrose (64) lost his long battle iwith prostate cancer.
ronnie's music was part of my teen years - the first two montrose/hagar albums are amongst my own personal faves in my collection.
growing up listening to rock candy, bad motor scooter, rock the nation, i got the fire, paper money and good rocking tonight in a great time for rock music, left me spoilt for choice - but glad to have heard these great tunes. special mention tho is reserved for my own personal montrose fave - space station no5....what a blitzkreig of a tune - and sammy's vocal pipework is only matched my ronnies string shredding playing.
rest in peace ronnie, thanks for the tunes
Little goes noticed on how many recording that Ronnie was on that were NOT his records. His appearance on the 1987 Neville Brothers album "Uptown" is probably one of the nicest bits of guitar playing you can find.
However, what I find disturbing is the words used on his website...
"And true to form, he chose hisown exit the way he chose his own life"
Did Ronnie "off" himself?
i'm hoping that - more in Ronnie's character - it's nothing more complicated than he either;
a] stopped taking life-prolonging drugs
b] stopped taking morphine for the pain
...just been playing Gamma's first album again....guy was amazing
