i agree with this post. i said somehting similar in the queen re-issues thread. i quoted nick mason who said as much as they're not chasing mega cash-ins, the immersion set is not for the casual fan...it's for the serious fan...and they're not producing them in great volumes as i said before queen want to be taken seriously? then stock sucking off the likes of 5ive, blobby-williams, beyonce and the pepsi crew, mcbluebottle et al.... if queen want to be considered as a serious band then treat their fans the way serious bands do...all of this list have produced "deluxe/limited/re-issue/anthologies etc" that put queen to shame wouldn't it be nice to see queen in the esteemed companty of: beatles, pink floyd, bowie, springsteen, rainbow, purple, and many many more who treat their serious fans nicely |
The Real Wizard 26.09.2011 12:57 |
I completely agree. But I don't think there are nearly as many serious Queen fans as there are for those bands. Most Queen fans will say their favourite album is "Greatest Hits". Some music history books even state "Greatest Hits" as one of the three key albums to check out after SHA and ANATO. Queen have been a singles band for 30 years. Maybe if they did break up after The Works tour, things would be different.. |

I think I'm going to get the Dark Side boxset. Anyone got it yet? I did post something about this the other week. U2 are also doing a simila boxset for Achtung. But yes, QP should take note and either do this for the albums or look again at the Wembley boxset. |

Pre-ordered the Dark Side and Wish You Were Here Immersion sets the day they were available to pre-order... The Wall one isn't worth the cash, in my opinion.... especially since I already have the live album... which doesn't need remastering at all. I considered the Discovery Edition Box - but I honestly cannot listen to more than 50% of their catalogue... I already have the remastered Piper... the only other ones worth getting IMO (to satisfy my musical tastes) are Saucerful, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Animals (which should have an Immersion edition) and the Wall.... and maybe Division Bell (lots of great cuts on that one). Finally - I can't see any Queen releases that would be able to properly pull this off - the only one would be A Night At The Opera... and it would be rehash of what's already available: Disc 1 - The Album Disc 2 - Hammersmith Xmas Show (this would be the Gem)... but they'd put bits of Live Killers, The Bowl, Montreal, Wembley, and since they have a whole disc to cover - Paul Rodgers live versions!!! Disc 3 - Demos (this would be key)... but they'd put single versions, non-segue versions, previously available remixes and instrumental karaoke versions, and maybe even la-creme-de-la-creme brand spankin' new edits! Disc 4 - Blu-Ray lossless DTS-HD/PCM Lossless 5.1 Mix... but they'd put compressed DTS DVD Version (Wembley 25 justifies this comment) Disc 5 - DVD of Making of the album - already released with certain 30th anniversary edition copies and standalone...(Classic Albums version) Disc 6 - A brand spanking new interview CD with Brian and Roger discussing the album...And then we realize that it's just the Audio Commentary on the "Videos" of the Night At The Opera 30th Anniversary DVD....Can't wait for this one! lol Conclusion: No need for Queen Immersion sets... just give us a bloody Anthology box already!!! Like the Beatles did in 1995/1996. |

Here's a tip: get "The Dark Side of the Moon", isolate yourself in a room, sit comfortably, take out the lyrics booklet (or print them out), put on the CD, turn up the volume and read as you're listening. If you've never heard it before I envy you - the first time you hear "Dark Side" in its entirety is an event akin to the first time you drive a car or the first time you have sex. I'd accuse you of over-selling, but ... you're not. It's one of the best rock records ever made, and indeed, there's no better way to listen to it. The first time Rick Wright played it for his wife, she apparently cried for an hour because it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard. |

Each to their own but it all sounds very, very boring to me?! ===================================== Cut yourself off from the world, put the wall on and listen to it, absolute masterpiece. To a lesser extent you should also watch the movie, I re-watched it for the first time since I was 14 earlier this year, I’m not ashamed to say comfortably numb made me cry because my granddad had just died and the lyrics reminded me of his last week when they were filling him up with morphine, he was drifting in and out of consciousness and he lost the ability to speak. I also cried a song or two later when I realised they let bob geldoff scream his way through two of my favourite songs rendering the lyrics inaudible gibberish. |

I'm going to get the Immersion box set of DSOTM for sure, but still this boxset isn't perfect. I seriously don't need a scarf and marbles. Why not the full Brighton 1972 gig instead? They have the full recording in great quality and now we only get two well-known videos and three unreleased audio tracks (The Travel Sequence, The Mortality Sequence and Any Colour You Like). It would have been great to have the pre-DSOTM, embryonic version of the album as a live performance together with Wembley 1974. It seems they have the full gig on video as well? Oh well, maybe in the future. This is my only complaint, haha. |

EMI seem to have pulled their finger out recently regards 'decent' archive releases for some of its bands. I DO wonder if this is in direct response to many of their older bands leaving for other companies, but then again, having been a Queen fan for 25 years, I wonder if Queen left BECAUSE EMI wanted to do this with their back catalogue.... |

I've been lurking (and occasionally posting) on a PF forum for a few months now. V. |

V. ---------------------------------------------------- It's a fact that somebody will always complain no matter what you release, but the key is to aim for a clear majority approving your product. With the latest Queen re-releases about half of the fans aren't bothered one way or the other, and that can't be a good sign either... At least if you have fans actively moaning about the products, it means that they still care about the products. :P |

Going back to the details of what's included I just noticed the following: Disc 1 & 2 - album and live album - available at 1/5 the cost of the immersion ed. when purchasing the experience ed. Disc 3 & 4 are DVDs that are basically replicated in full but in higher definition on the Blu-Ray... Disc 5 - this is the Blu-Ray that replaces Disc 3 & 4 Disc 6 - demos - worthy gem So basically I'd be paying 4/5 the price for 2 discs (5 & 6), scarf, marbles, postcards, etc... - not exactly a great bargain anymore! I'll wait for them to release the blu-ray version seperately - which they surely will... hopefully the demos find their way somewhere... |

Got my box this morning. I have to admit: it looks gorgeous. The early mix of DSOTM is fantastic. Absolutely dig this version of The Great Gig In The Sky. It's without vocals, but now you can hear the wonderful organ :) |
Ron 28.09.2011 07:47 |
I prefer the Animals album miles above The Dark Side. The Dark's A-side is flawless, but the b-side isn't doing much for me. I still got the box set though :) The Early 1972 Mix of the album sounds good and The Great Gig is more enjoyable without that woman singing/screaming over the backing track. I was very surprised and pleased to hear that version! The remaining bonus tracks on the extra cd are ok I guess, but I can live without them. Packaging... my first thought was like "hmmm... an EMI employer simply literally threw in some goodies and closed the lid of the box" as everything was scattered through the box; scarf, marbles, marbles pouch, even two bonus cds in cardsleeves. But still the product looks very nice and has quite some quality so I'm satisfied in the end. Hope to actually watch the dvds this week. |

I prefer to spend my money on concert tickets instead of buying physical releases. Seeing a band perform live is, in my opinion, what music is all about. Especially box sets. They become very boring after some time. When the Freddie 10 cd box was released I bought it instantly. After 5 or 6 listenings and some views in the book, I shoved the thing in a closet and never ever listened or looked at it again. The new wembley concert: same thing. Watched it twice when it was released. Never looked at it again. Freddie was correct: pop music is disposable. |

Nah... I've been to quite some concerts of different groups and to be honest.. NOTWMEDDLE wrote: Finally - I can't see any Queen releases that would be able to properly pull this off - the only one would be A Night At The Opera... and it would be rehash of what's already available: Disc 1 - The Album Disc 2 - Hammersmith Xmas Show (this would be the Gem)... but they'd put bits of Live Killers, The Bowl, Montreal, Wembley, and since they have a whole disc to cover - Paul Rodgers live versions!!! ================================================================= It would be interesting to have such thing released, you know. But, as I said before, it's a little bit of nonsense *quoting Brian*. Having released everything *over and over again* that has been available for years isn't an interesting case. But let's look at a few things. Hammersmith Xmas Show - they've been promising to release it since 2009 (or even earlier, if I'm not wrong). We haven't put our hands on it yet. What a pity. This is the concert I've always wanted to see officially released. Let's now hope they release it in 2015 (40th anniversary of the concert). They could put some great bonus material on it. There are four years left before 2015 yet, so maybe Brian can find someone who filmed the last encore and they'd put it as an extra bonus... hmm. Anyway, I hope it becomes released some day. Demos - I'm pretty sure they do have some interesting demos from A Night At The Opera sessions in the QP archives. So they could put them in box set. One more conert - would be good if they could release some interesting 1975 concert on video (another one, yep). For example, Tokyo gig on 1st May. So here are my thoughts. Wouldn't it be great, really? |

Just face it, boxed sets like this will hardly sell, they will be all over usenet and torrent sites within a week of releasing them, so only a few die-hard fans would pull out 50 euro's or more for it. We all know that Queen does not really care for the die-hard fans and have focused on mainstream fans for years, and will continue to do so. There probably still is interesting stuff out there, but i don't think it will be released, because they will lose money on it. |

I got Nirvana's Nevermind deluxe box with 4 cds and 1 dvd yesterday. Great! Now surely Queen has a bigger following than Nirvana, so why can Nirvana release something like this (the box should even be limited to 'just' 40.000 copies), but Queen can't/won't.... Pity. Am glad I also started to appreciate other music so I can buy such sets after all, although not by Queen. |

They have three songs for sure, but judging by what was shown at the Stormtroopers exhibition earlier this year, the rest of the footage certainly may be fragmentary. Furthermore, it's silent, and we don't know if they even have the audio. The Tarantura bootleg might actually be the best audio from this show, unless the band made a two-track board recording. |

However, Gary Taylor did state that it's all from May 1 ... so then there were 4 costume changes. |

Does any Pink Floyd fan know whether the Games For May concert from 1967 was properly recorded? The setlist is absolutely wonderful. |
