hi all just back from leeds festival.
what can i say,a great day out,but a soggy one.
arrived after driving through biblical rain(i kid you not).
jamie(eldest son) said he wasnt bothered about other stages, tents etc,he just wanted muse.
god a good position in front of vodaphone tower?,something to lean on and stand on.
missed the first couple of bands because jamie was looking at merchandise, food etc.
when we got in position,we saw,,,,,,,,,interpol(poor band).....then the view,,now i am from scotland as are those lot,but i couldnt understand the guy?????.
enter shitkera, not how you spell it but thats what they were,,,saw them support 30 seconds to mars, they were shit then they were shittier now....
elbow,,,,,,,,now this was something diffrent, string quartet,a very good lead singer,,and got the crowd going great guns,,,,,,what can i say best act of the day up till now??.
at his point it was food time(again),so i was sent of on the burger run(2 burgers 1 tea £12)robbing bastards..
got back in position for the final band of the day,muse.....now jamie said you will like them dad(little did he know i have been watching youtube videos for months to see what they were like)..
at this point the crowd became bigger and the ussual drunks and people who were there not for the music just the abbility to say ,i was there,,turned up.
you know the kind,,,,,,barging through the crowd just to get near the front no excuse me or can i pass please,,,,,,,,tossers in otherwords..
girls in shorts and t shirts in pissing rain(13 degrees) guys in t shirts that say,,oxford uni RFU?.
anyway.jamie at this point was like a kid that had eaten 5 packs of quavers lol.(19 and excited by music,perfect).9 pm and time to rock(dad not jamie).
i am not going to say they were ok,or they were good, going to say.
i have never in my life been so blown away by a band as this.
the most stunning concert i have ever seen..
this was music and a lighting rig that was out of this world.
below a review from the leeds website..
Main stage headliners Muse were in sublime form last night as they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their seminal second album Origin Of Symmetry, playing its 11 tracks consecutively before flooring the crowd with an hour of hits taken from their last three albums ‘The Resistance’ ‘Black Holes & Revelations’ and ‘Absolution.’
Clearly in the mood for reminiscing, the Teignmouth trio even walked on stage to Tom Waits’ eerie spoken word ‘What’s He Building In There?’ a staple introduction to their live sets back in 2001. With a mighty stage backdrop of tuning forks set around the stage, recalling Origin Of Symmetry’s cover artwork, the group then proceeded to plough through classic tracks including ‘Newborn’ ‘Plug In Baby’ and Nina Simone cover ‘Feeling Good.’
Taking an interlude to give the heaving crowd room to breath, they then returned and launched into ‘The Resistance’ opening number ‘Uprising,’ with other highlights including a storming version of ‘Hysteria’ and ‘Stockholm Syndrome’s’ metal bombast. Returning for an encore of ‘Knights of Cydonia,’ which was opened by bassist Chris Wolstenholme’s harmonica intro and saw giant balls of fire shoot up from the front of the stage, Muse left no one in any doubt that they remain Britain’s premier UK rock band as they strode off to a firework display.
that what the web site said about this gig...
my opinion of the night,,,,,all the crap bands before(elbow excluded),should look close at them as how to rock.
this may have been one of the best music experiances of my life(and i have had a few),sound,, vision
,,perfection on stage, this was it...watched jamie in front of me rock out like i did at queen in 82(memories),he jumped he sang he even threw away his burger to clap along(a teenager throwing away food)
jamie turned round to me after they finished and said,,,,,,,,,,you never smiled that wide before, even after q+pr...
and i just said,i think that may have been music perfection....
will post pics on my youtube page when uploaded, most are ok,some are out of focus...
thanks for reading..
ps,for sale 1 pair wellies,1 pair walking boots, complete with 1 inch thick liquid mud.......offers of £1 or more..
I cant be bothered to read all that. Something to do with 'Muse' who I dont care for. Plus, your sentences are ridiculous to read.
Wherever you have been I hope you enjoyed yourself :-)
Can you give any estimate as to how many people were there at the maximum?
It sounds like a fantastic experience was had by all who remained faithful & upbeat and stuck out the
weather and so-so bands to be rewarded in the end by MUSE. Leave it to MUSE to transform a soggy
mess into a sublime one.
I have never seen them but your post, of course, makes you want to be there - mudd & torrential rain
withstanding - so thanks.
Also it occurred to me while reading it that it was a real "Father to Son" type thing when you
spoke of your flashback to Queen 82. Your son will always remember the time you both drove
through the rain together to get to Leeds and see MUSE. Sometimes it's all about "making it happen"
- no matter what. Good stuff indeed.
i would say about sixty thousand people there..most were ok and having a ball.
but like every thing else there is always tossers.
as for jamie,a gig he will never forget..
i think the set is on uk tv tonight?.
