From brianmay.com, about Knebworth gig and Wembley 25 anniversary DVD:

Is Brian able to clarify how the Friday night show has been prepared?
I specifically recall him saying in the past that Friday night was used as a full dress rehearsal for the cameras with the director taking practice shots etc. but that no tape was put in the machine so nothing was captured which was a big regret.

Dear Ian.Thanks for writing, re the upcoming new DVD issue of the Queen 1986 Wembley concerts. From what I can gather, there might be some confusion, here, between the second night at Wembley, and the later concert at Knebworth Park. The only footage we have of Knebworth is from a documentary camera. That is the occasion where an opportunity was entirely missed, to record the feeds from the cameras which were being used to put images up on the 'Idaphores' - the biggest video screens available in the day.But on the first night at Wembley, the cameras were rolling, and although there was little in the way of 'iso' feed recording (from individual cameras), a live mix was being put down by way of a rehearsal for the following night, which was planned to be the big shoot. Not all the cameras were in operation, but Gavin Taylor was choosing shots live 'at the coalface', and it was recorded with all his visual cuts. So although ideally it would be nice to be able to go back and choose some different shots in retrospect, especially from the cameras which were NOT available, we do have a pretty good 'capture' of the event, visually .... easily good enough for a 'bonus' DVD, which is what we are slipping into the new version of the WEMBLEY DVD. Of course the sound from the night was recorded at very decent quality, on multitrack, just like on the second night, and our chaps have done a great restoration job and mix on the whole soundtrack ... so musically the experience is just fine ...well, more than fine, really! I have a suspicion that folks out there will enjoy being able to relive both Queen nights at Wembley Stadium 1986 on DVD. (Those of you who really get into this will note, if you compare this issue with the handful of songs from the Friday night that were offered as a bonus on the 2003 DVD, that there is a small amount of ISO footage from Wembley 1. I will leave you guys to have fun figuring out exactly which shots were inserted.)
Cheers
Bri
A day for of nostalgia for sure. Knebworth, 9th August 1986 was a VERY special day. Finally, my family came to see Queen and saw what I meant by it all. I am especially glad they came, as clearly and sadly, it was their last chance.
Interestingly my niece was born 20 years to the day of Queen’s last public concert on 9th August 2006. Exactly 20 years. Another round number connecting Queen and my family. Freddie works in mysterious ways too!
Real shame they did not officially capture this great show on film.

That s it!

yes it was.....a special day for anyone who loves good music .....Belouis Some were amazing that day ;-)
i remember the gig well...i was there......had already seen them on the wembley saturday gig...and a load of us went down the M1 in three cars.....when we got about 10 miles from the motorway exit there was a massive holdup.....and we ended up starting a waterbomb fight with every other car in the queue...as bottles of pop, beer and water were poured through sunrrofs, windows and just about everywhere...some of thos ecars must've stunk later
anyhow.....not much recollection of the BS set....we were getting lunch and looking at stalls selling bootlegs etc.....(they were nearly all tapes and vinyl in those days).....plus some other shit...what i do remember was the stupidly disproportionate amount of foodstalls selling stuff you wouldnt have expected at a "festival" type gig in those days...extremely cosmopolitan
i could be wrong about this...but i think i recall Status Quo being on before Big Country (something about them trying to break some record for "gigs in a day" and had to fly straight to Holland after Knebworth
anyhow....what i recall was during Big Country we managed to edge our way thru the r=crowd toward the front...we ended up about twenty feet from the front by the time queen started....
also....weird as it seems...the gig wasn't that great...they seemed like a band "relieved that the tour was over"...and the "stabbing incident"????? another odd thing...we remember leaving and heading back to the cars and how the word spread thru whispers...that something had happened during the gig...but we had no idea what it was
i woudl add that it's weird how sometimes people say "oh yes i was there and i remember that".....in a crowd of 120,000+ it's impossible for us all to have witnessed soemthing
like - for example......when we left wembley after the saturday gig...it took four bastard hours to get out of the car park...and almost another hour to get to the A40 to head north.....we later heard it may have bene due to Boy George being taken to (Ealing???) police station after that guy was found dead in his flat....and this contributed to some road closures and delays????
I was there, what a day enormous crowd took us 5 hours to get out and Queen rocked hard. remember belouis some getting bottled off. what a pity it was the last ever show with fred.

Bohemian Rhapsody has just ended :-)
which dvd?
The audience footage from Knebworth of course
That version where the person with the video cam aims his/her cam at the big screen all the time.
