catqueen 24.07.2011 17:01 |
It was the most awesomest wedding ever! So beautiful. I have never cried at a wedding before, never really understood it. And now i do. I'm just SOOOOOOOO happy for them both. And it was really nice -- me and another girl and the bride have been best friends for years, and the two of us who are her friends had to give speeches after the reception (was a bit strange -- the father of the bride married them, and preached at the wedding, but didn't give a speech, and the bridesmaids didn't either, but two of the best men, and me and my friend were asked to prepare speeches). Anyway, it was beautiful. They are evangelical Christians and don't believe in sex before marriage so it was just really special today. I've been to other weddings like that, but this time it just really seemed special and idk... maybe just cos she's one of my best friends. I hope i'm this excited about my own weddiing if i ever get married, cos i'm just SO happy and excited for her! Just also sad that she's moving away now cos he works in another country :( |

Some guy at the gym today had on this t-shirt: link Ah haha. It made me laugh, so I tracked it down to that Fred Eaglesmith lyric/store. And now I know. Got to check out a brand new venue in town Friday night. I had been a bit skeptical looking at it from the road as it looked like a bit of a boxy eyesore, but once down there it was really, really nice. A brand new licensed 2000 seat (inc. grass seating) amphitheatre on the lake. It was a clear, beautiful, warm summer night and the band was great and the drinks were cold. Really happy to have it and it should mean more shows in the summer. I'm seeing Melissa Etheridge there in a couple of weeks (she's long been on my concert bucket list so I'm very happy) and I'm thinking about Steve Earle and Canadian rockers April Wine late August. |

I fell asleep for about an hour late this afternoon and had one of those restless dreams, in this instance about Queenzone of all things. Ha ha! It was some kind of Queenzone gathering and a bunch of people were there, there being outside on a lawn in a front yard. The only people that were actually there in name were Zebonka (who looked like Zebonka) and rhyeking (who in my dream had dark hair and glasses) - everybody else were just anonymous people, but presumably Queenzoners. We were on the lawn loosely gathered around a van in which rhyeking was in the driver's seat looking slightly exasperated with the rest of us, who were trying to sort something out. Where to eat or something. Just then a number of foam/papier mache formations of small cartoonish versions of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds show air fleet started flying over head, amusing us greatly. Then something started happening and they started falling out of the air like popcorn almost. As you might expect we all found this REALLY funny (!). But then I stepped on one of them and it made an awful disturbing crunch and by then it had turned into a the shape of a cartoon bird, like in the Angry Birds game, which was somehow upsetting. And then, mercifully, I woke up. LOL. |

The backing track used here was just a quick scratch track put together, which will be replaced with a full proper 'live' backing track soon as I'm able to get into my buddy's home studio to record all the instrumentation. Aiming for an early November release! PS. Peter Freestone guests on the single! ============================= LOL! Great! |

grrr, i love my job, i LOVE the area i'm working in, and now i'm seriously having to consider asking for a transfer because of a freaking bully of a workmate. I've worked with her for several years now, and i'm really reaching the end of my tether regardiing how far she can push me. :( Today basically everyone was informed that i'm a lazy sod who doesn't do anything. And i know exactly why it was said -- its because i took the time to do a very difficult and timeconsuming task that took a lot of patience and work and frustration, and she had tried to do it and failed. Yes, it did mean i had to work slowly AT THAT MOMENT. But that was also the only way it was goign to get done. And now that i've done it successfully and she wasn't able to (and i'm younger and more highly qualified then her -- all things against me) she is really annoyed at me. Bitch. |

going to my first proper gig tomorrow, cant wait! But 5 of the 6 ppl i was to go with couldn't go... leaving me and one boy going... which may be a little awkward... thankfully both of us love the band... A family member got me onto the guest list for it cos he knows the band :D which is epic, but means i absolutely am going - if it was a matter of tickets id be tempted to say argh, there's only two of us left, will we go? but both of us are on the guest list, which is SO cool!!! I was meant to be going with family and two friends -- both lots of family pulled out for (valid) various reasons. Then one friend got sick and cant come. I just really really hope it isn't awkward... would you think its strange if a girl asked you to go, got you onto the guest list via her family, and THEN turned around and told you that all 5 others had pulled out? I mean i'm scared it looks like i'm trying to set something up, and i genuinely am not... and i'm kind of scared its awkward for him, but i rang him and was like YOU HAVE TO COME COS I'LL BE KILLED IF I DONT GO! And i desperately want to go -- just im kinda scared with just two of us it might be a bit of a flop lol. I'll love it, but he might be bored off his head cos i'll just be entranced... idk how to act at things like this anyway... i mean how much talking... even what to wear... think i'm just going to wear jeans and a top, but hope that i'm not the only one who isnt really dressed up! argh, i've been looking forward to this for months, and now i'm terrified it will be scary and awkward! |

Be yourself and enjoy the concert. yeah... well i'm not trying to impress him, i'm more doing damage control, as he is a good bit younger then me, and just a friend... i just really don't want him to think i strategically planned it this way rofl. I grew up in a very very conservative religious group, only left recently, so there's a lot of new stuff lately, (they aren't meant to even listen to music, much less go to a gig, and there is a strict dress code for women of long dresses and hair always covered, no makeup or jewellry, etc. lol), so i think i was just panicking about all of it! I'm so excited though -- it almost seems unreal that i can actually go! |

Its friday 13th... i'm not superstitious... but i went to get petrol this morning and my laser card wouldn't work on two different machines... rang the bank and it turns out my account had been blocked cos of 'suspicious activity...Someone seems to have gotten my laser number and robbed nearly E500 from my account last night... :( |
GratefulFan 13.01.2012 16:49 |
That's terrible. :( Hopefully the bank sorts things for you quickly. I've got a horrible story that I'll endeavour to make short (I'll probably fail). In the fall of 2000 I drove away from a drive through bank machine leaving my card behind and, and as I learned shortly, active. When I realized my card was missing I drove back to the bank machine in hopes of finding it, with no luck. Online records I checked thereafter indicated somebody came in behind me and withdrew 100 dollars at a time until I was drained...to my overdraft limit. I lost all the money I had in the world at the time - hundreds of dollars. The bank told me I was SOL because it was my fault, and recommended I call the police. I did that, and a cop came over and took my statement and disappeared for a few weeks. Just days before Christmas he called me and said this on the phone: "I've investigated this incident and determined nobody followed behind you at the bank. I am going to be charging you with theft, fraud and public mischief for filing a false report. But don't worry, I won't screw up your Christmas, I'll wait until January." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just about died. I was so panicked and just, without words. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I felt incredibly helpless. Long story short, my subsequent fit taking and witness statements (my mother had been in the car with me the first time I was at the bank) eventually encouraged him to put down the doughnut and get up and do a proper investigation. Turns out that because we had just turned the clocks back the video recording equipment at the bank was an hour off from the correctly adjusted transaction time. So the video footage he was looking at that 'matched' the time of the withdrawals was closer to me coming back to look for my card, not me leaving my card and then getting stolen from. You'd think stopping and briefly looking for a card would have a different visual footprint that doing more than a dozen individual transactions. (!) Eventually it got sorted out, and I guilted the bank into giving me the money back as compensation for the stress caused by their wrongly timestamped recording. But what a lesson that was about how easy it is for the innocent to be railroaded. I still remember the sick fear and helplessness. Anyway, I hope your loss will be sorted quickly and without that kind of unnecessary drama! Hang in there. :) |

I meant to rewrite it for fun, as if you were here. You would have said: Its friday the 13th...i'm not superstitious...but I went to get gas this morning and my bank card wouldn't work on two different machines...called the bank and it turns out my account has been blocked cos of suspicious activity..Someone seems to have gotten my PIN number and robbed nearly $625 from my account last night... :( Ha! PS 'PIN number' drives some people nuts because PIN stands for 'Personal Identification Number'....so the common usages actually translates to 'Personal Identification Number number'. But people say it anyway! :) |

GratefulFan wrote: That's terrible. :( Hopefully the bank sorts things for you quickly.I've got a horrible story that I'll endeavour to make short (I'll probably fail). But don't worry, I won't screw up your Christmas, I'll wait until January."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just about died. I still remember the sick fear and helplessness.Anyway, I hope your loss will be sorted quickly and without that kind of unnecessary drama! Hang in there. :)Oh no, that's horrible... i talked to the bank, and they were the ones who blocked the card in the first place, just they were waiting for business hours to contact me (i rang their helpline literally at 9 am on the button). But it was them that stopped the card, and there have never been transactions on my card at either that time in the morning, on the internet, OR in that city -- plus it was at 4 am and then i was getting petrol in another city at 8.30 am. My mother thought i should ring the police as well, but that's hardly necessary? I mean, the bank investigate, right? Like the girl said she did, and my actual card wasn't stolen... i am guessing there was a scanner installed on an atm that i used. |

We just had such a case in one of our local banks. To cut a long story short, in a letter to the press by a lawyer, it was said that the money that was stolen in the account belonged to the bank and not the account-holder. When we place a deposit with a bank, we are effectively lending the money to the bank. Therefore the bank should reinstate the amount that was stolen to bring the account to the balance that was lent to the bank by the account-holder. |

Over the years between traffic stops, being a victim of this or that and any other miscellaneous dealings with the police they have been overwhelmingly fair, professional and compassionate - whatever the situation demanded. Strikingly so. But that guy was just trouble waiting to happen. Several years later he was involved in a situation where an arrestee was claiming police misconduct and a severe escalation of a minor incident. I wasn't surprised. Then last year he was charged by his own service for driving like an idiot, rolling his police cruiser, destroying a guard rail and landing in a ravine, at which point he had to be extricated and treated at the hospital. If he was a Marine I'm sure he would have peed on somebody inside of a month. |

Things to say in response to Little River Band's 'Reminiscing' on YouTube: Because of this song I was able to stop drinking and avoid being an out of work drunk asking for change on the side of the road. I just want to thank Little River Band for showing me that love and simple "reminiscing" are what truly matter, not 40s of Mickey's and one night stands with Asian whores. My life goal is to meet you guys and return all the joy and pleasure you wonderful men have given me throughout the years. Ah hahaha! Love the song, and now it's always going to make me laugh when I think of this poor dude and his Asian whores. |

My saga: Work wanted me to go on a training course today, but I couldn't, cos I was supposed to be in college today. So I said I can't go to the training course, my name didn't go down for it. Then my class got cancelled. But another extra class was scheduled for during the week, which would have meant that I had to do a part of my thesis for next week. So that was grand, i couldn't go to work training because I had to write that part of my thesis. Then the extra class also got cancelled. Meaning I *can't* write that part of my thesis yet, and also I don't need to have it written until next week. So now, I don't have much to do (other then bitty pieces of fixing up essays) for college, but i can't go anywhere, cos if i go out, someone from work might see me and mention that i was out gallavanting when i had said i was studying. :/ Fun weekend... |

went for a walk today. Which seemed like a good idea. Until everyone decided to walk across an old dilapidated bridge which used to be a railway tracks across the river... and its all rusty... and it was dusk when we started, so it was pitch black when we got to the far side (and still had to walk back). And i was wearing little ballet pumps which threatened to fall between the slats in the railway line the whole time. And it was wet and slippery. And between the slats (in the WIDE gap between them) you could see the river rushing past 40 feet below us. As my friend helpfully said, 'at least if u fall you won't hurt urself, you'll land in the water. And sure i'll jump in with you to save you. I can't swim, but i'll keep you company.' Kind of embarrassing to end up in tears from fear at the far end of a bridge, when you still have to walk the whole way back. BUT it was a great evening... one of my good friends is moving, so it was a farewell walk lol. |

At all my birthday parties when I was little I would lose it and cry at the point that people sang 'Happy Birthday' over the cake and candles. I recall one year sobbing "Don't Sing! Don't Sing!" with tears flooding my face, which I'm sure was some shade of petunia. I just could not handle all that focused attention and all the faces looking at me at once. I totally should have peed my pants instead. Way more laid back and cheerful. Anyway, glad it was a special day. It's so easy to make our children insanely, sweetly, innocently happy when they're that age. Good times. :) |

There's a pregnant woman on the other couch. She looks haunted. I'm scared she actually got pregnant on the couch and is still here. |

Tonight's my last night as a student... after six years of part time study while working it's gonna be weird... suddenly i won't have to stay at home all the time frantically studying... weekends will actually be days when i don't HAVE to do anything, instead of my current 'yay, study time' approach to weekends. Now in the evening, my biggest concern will be trying to feed myself, instead of seeing dinner as a 'break' from study... it's gonna be strange... think i'll end up missing it. On the down side, i have an exam tomorrow and i'm really not ready... i'm SO not ready that there's hardly any point in studying, cos i need to learn 19 topics for it, and i only know (half know) 4. :/ Not a good ending to the year... just hope the questions are easy lol |

Let us know how it goes, and how it feels! :)Lol, thanks -- i'm in a panic though, but just gonna give up for the night and go to bed... desperately want a 1.1, but i think with everything that's been going on in the past year its a miracle if i get through it at all! I am kind of giving up on the 1.1 thing though, unless my thesis comes out with a MUCH better mark then i expect AND only the topics i know come up in the exam tomorrow, i won't have a hope... its such a pity though, cos i've been above the grade i need for it in everything so far except one assignment (and i only missed it by 2%, so it wouldn't make a difference). But these exams are lethal... And yeah... it's only a degree, but i didn't go to mainstream school, and i was in a very restricted church growing up, so my general knowledge was really poor (still is lol. I had to do a two year certificate before i could go to 'proper' college, cos i didn't have a recognised school leaving qualification... so i'm kinda proud of myself. BUT this will be the first time i get below a distinction :'( And it is in the most important part of it. Ah well, i'll still have well enough to go on to a masters, but it'd just be nice to carry on with the distinctions. And imma stop rambling lol |

I had the most comically tragic birthday ever yesterday. LOL. My mom always starts our birthdays off by calling in the morning and playing this corny singing rubber birthday cake, but she slept in, so no dice. My son forgot completely and just demanded eggs. My boyfriend is out of town working in a high stress/emergency type situation right now so just understandably blanked I'm assuming because I still haven't heard from him. On the upside an old boyfriend who stalked me by phone and email for six rather horrendous months following our breakup several years ago did remember to send a nice note. Ha ha. My coworker with whom I always exchange gifts wandered by about noon with an expression of dismay followed by an ecard that wouldn't play on my computer. My Dad's birthday was also yesterday and I sent him an Amazon gift certificate. He replied with a pointed complaint that I hadn't accepted his Skype request. I'm never on Skype and I don't use it hardly ever! WTH? LOL. By now the accumulation of bad luck and minor neglect was making me laugh. Things turned around briefly when the Illustrated Queen Lyrics book I had ordered was in my mailbox when I got home having arrived at least a day if not two days early. Beautiful book and nice unexpected birthday windfall. Yay! The rest of the night was just quiet. Until about 10 pm when my son's workplace called to say that he was in an ambulance on the way to emerg with symptoms of confusion, disorientation and extreme pallor and chest pressure. The day kind of lost it's comedic edge at that point. So in emerg with him until 5 am and which point I was greeted with a monster parking ticket. Fell into bed, woke up long enough to call in sick, and then slept until noon. In all the panic and ensuing fatigue I forgot to water my newly planted grass seed, twice, and the ground totally dried out. I probably killed it. LOL. The piece de resistance is that either from stress or attempting to assuage raging hunger with a bag of jujubes in the hospital at 4:00 am I woke up with an abolutely killer headache that I can't shake. It feels like I partied like it was 1999. Like the universe is saying "I know you didn't have much fun, but let's pretend you did. Ha ha. I'm a funny universe!" :) So it's tomorrow and now I'm over it. But it was all all a little surreal and occasionally entertaining. And heck, it's only 364 days until I can try again. Yay! :) |
MadTheSwine73 26.05.2012 08:55 |
LOL That was insane :) |

Quite! :). I forgot the part where when we finally got moved out of the main waiting room with the 3000 watt lights to the inner sanctum of peaceful and softly lit interminableness we were sharing the area with a completely hammered woman who had injured her arm in some bloody and unspeakable way. Her companion was trying to help her walk it off up and down the loooong hallway, so every 10 minutes or so she'd be back in front of the little alcove we were in. My son was still in his McDonalds uniform, and every time, every blessed time, presumably forgetting she'd already said it, she'd slur out "ohhhhhhhhhawwwwwwlink must have fell in the fryyyyyerrrrrr" with all the heart wrenching compassion and empathy an idiot drunk can muster. Which is a lot. My son eventually fell asleep, but I heard that 15 times at least. Due to a karmic clerical error it's probably her splitting hangover headache I got, and she probably spent a blissful pain free day day forgetting she had already watered her petunias six times while my grass seed dried to death. :) |
catqueen 26.05.2012 12:25 |

Thanks all for the concern about my boy. In truth what happened was probably a blessing as scary as it was. Several weeks ago he had an incident (parents reading prepare to die a little here) where he briefly lost consciousness behind the wheel of a car on his way to work. The saving grace was that he was not alone, he was at a red light, and driving a standard vehicle so he didn't shoot into the intersection. His friends rushed him to emergency and he was found to be in cardiac arrhythmia. Looking back there was probably signs of this before that were less dramatic, and he has had a few more minor spells since - chest pressure, dizziness and falls but no blackout. As a result of that first incident it was arranged that he be fitted with a holter monitor for 24 hours, and it happened to be fitted on my birthday morning. So this incident will have been captured on the holter monitor - a minor miracle given that days and days have gone by between hints of anything amiss. So if the issue is cardiac in nature there will be an excellent chance of having it more clearly diagnosed based on the holter recording. So really, it may turn out to be a pretty amazing birthday present after all. Obviously I've been pretty sick with worry, losing sleep, focus etc. At 17 they think they're bulletproof. But I'm really hopeful for more clarity soon and a resolution if necessary. Thanks again for everybody's concern. :) |

Just a couple of pics that have made me snicker lately. This at a dollar store yesterday...WTF...I did smell it and found it well intentioned but stale, with a hint of sandalwood and desperation. link And this. My son has been in the hospital for a few days and as unamusing as that is this shot outside his window did make me laugh. Yes, that is a piece of gauze wrapped around the pigeon picks (or whatever they are called) on a second floor ledge outside windows that do not open. Clearly bird triage. I don't want to hear another peep about the Canadian Health Care system. Well funded, compassionate, comprehensive. link |

I've been in an online relationship for almost three years. Never actually 'met' the guy in real life (lived in different continents) but spent literally hours each day talking on skype. And i had to leave him. And i know it was the right decision, but my heart is breaking... didn't expect it to be this hard. There are so many reasons, there's no way we would be happy together for good (we'd maybe have a happy year or two, but he got really controlling, and gets too angry), but no matter what my head says, i am so so sad. I'm already sick - been sick all week - and now i can't stop crying as well as that. And i can't go out and distract myself cos i'm sick. So i'm stuck sitting in my room for next two days on my own thinking about him and how things couldn't possibly have been as bad as i thought they were. :( Like i said before, i was raised very strictly, so he was my first actual boyfriend, and three years feels like a long time. :( And he is devastated :( And it kills me to know how much pain i'm causing him. I'm so saaaaaaaaaaddddddddd. |

I had to turn down a chick from America about 3 years ago. I mean, she was seriously talking marriage and moving to Australia and all of that jazz. Not to put it all on her - she was really splendid, but it was just not gonna happen. Being that I'm a bit of a hobgoblin (physically speaking - we can talk about my shit personality another day) I've never actually had to reject someone in my life, so I've always assumed it was an asshole thing to do and that there must be no emotional cost involved at all. Boy was that a lot of toss! I felt utterly fucked, for ages actually. Really guilty. Still, onward and upward! |

Had great afternoon hanging out with the girls, then went to see Batman, which was great, and then a gang of us went to the beach and had a bonfire (slightly illegal, but good fun lol). Was so beautiful, stars were out, there was even a shooting star... and in the middle of it, one of my best friend's disappeared with his girlfriend and came back a while later... she tossed a ring box at someone and said 'hey, would you mind this for a second?' AND THEY WERE ENGAGED!!!!!!! I'm so soooo excited!!!!!!! All my group of friends knew he was gonna propose soon, and we've all seen the ring, but she hadn't. Well, she had seen a picture of it, but not the actual ring. It's so exciting though... i'm so so so happy for them :D :D :D |

I've spent a decent part of the first week of my exciting summer vacation mucking clutter out of my basement. I know, right? Woo hoo! I came across a newspaper I bought when travelling in California in 2005. I bought it because it made me giggle, all the more because nobody in line with me, except my travelling parter, thought it was even remotely funny. In fact I'm pretty sure some of them might still hate tourists to this day just because of me. Anyway, it was sitting on the shelf folded in half as papers are, so I want to show you the bottom half of the front page first, normally hidden, to give some context: Ha ha ha! |

I just fixed my dryer. This makes me Super Girl! It was tumbling but it had no heat. It was only a fuse, but my electrical panel is ancient and creepy and this meant I had to look at it and touch it so that is something right there. This fuse was hidden in a switch box thing just for the dryer and I figured that out after only 40 or so minutes of comically ineffective troubleshooting and frozen blinking incomprehension. So there. If anybody needs clothes dried I'm not ruling out that my superpowers might include flying and teleportation. So let me know. |

I was having a perfectly pleasant chatty QZ evening and now it is just after 2:00 am and I'm back from emerg with my son who now has a huge cast on his arm. He fell on some stairs and broke his left wrist. :( The timing is terrible as he is the final running for a new job he really wants and this may impact their decision which was supposed to come by Tuesday. I can't sleep and don't even want to think about how whacked I'm going to be in the morning. Lucky I'm Super Girl! :P |

(First contribution to this wonderful thread). Today I slid down a flight of carpeted stairs on my arse, which I immediately regretted. I now can't sit down without my arse hurting, and my pants constantly get stuck to the damaged part of skin and I have to peel the fabric off, ripping off the thin layer of reforming skin in the process. It's awful. |

I agree GF. I'm very happy to see it back. This 48 game schedule is going to be fast paced & exciting. The play off hunt starts right from the get go. Where are you located GF? Who is your team? For me it's the Flyers. |

I'm in Ontario and a huge Senators fan. We almost shocked the NYR out in the first round last year. I've missed it all terribly, truly. I actually called my satellite TV provider today to fix the high def I lost last spring when the leaves came in on the trees. Without hockey to watch I'd been totally apathetic about the whole thing! Now I'm on it! :) |
MadTheSwine73 10.01.2013 19:57 |
I stopped caring about hockey. It disgusted me, the greed from both sides. I probably won't watch any games, because I just don't care anymore. Maybe next year. |
inu-liger 11.01.2013 00:54 |
Hockey is a pretty retarded business. I never did get the fan hype over what I consider a highly overpaid business where you're just wasting your money to watch violent ballet with sticks on ice. I'd rather spend that money anytime on rock concerts where I can actually be (almost) guaranteed an end result I WON'T be disappointed nor bored with :-) |

Anybody who is a hockey fan is silly to sit this season out. The 48 game schedule will mean a pace and dynamic worth watching for it's rarity alone. Opening games were played to sold out crowds and I was personally thrilled to watch my Sens thump the Jets 4-1 on the road Saturday afternoon (on High Def! Thanks visibly hungover Bell TV satellite repair guy, wherever you are!) , my first Sens hockey since last spring. If you're a hockey fan, don't get left behind this year without thinking it through and ensuring whatever offence you perceive is real. In the end it was a labour dispute. Nothing less and and nothing more. |

And (sniff) one of my best friends is moving to america next week :((( Gonna miss him so much... he's like my little brother, he always cheers me up. Some people find him really strange and annoying, cos he has a really weird sense of humour, but somehow, he's just always known exactly what to say to me. Not always what i want to hear, but usually it's what i need to hear. He kept me sane when i was going through crazy changes in life, and he dragged me out of myself. I used to be this timid little scared girl (i was in my mid-twenties, but everyone thought i was a young-ish teenager cos i was so timid), and he changed me. Basically through bullying me into standing up for myself, but it worked. Now i don't take bullshit off people (usually), i can SAY what i think, and i'm not scared all the time. Someone recently described me as someone with a strong voice, and i just laughed, cos until about a year and a half ago, i was a timid little nervous wreck. This guy dragged me out of that, kicking and screaming, and i'm gonna miss him so much :'( Plus, now i don't have my little human punch-bag to mess around with. He's smaller then me, but tough as nails, and because he can be so abrasive when he talks, and because we're so close and he really doesn't care, i just punch him if he acts the idiot. And now i have nobody to hit lol. Think it kinda freaks my fiance out a bit though, cos i'm a normal person, and then hang out with this friend and start kicking and punching and generally messing like a kid! But i'm gonna miss him :( And i was meant to be bridesmaid at his wedding this year, and now it looks like i won't be able to afford to go :( |

Super sappy sports narrative video: my hockey team was absolutely devastated by injury this year. In every single position we lost key players to long recovery injuries and we were pretty much written off. But our rookies led by our veterans stepped into the voids so effectively that they eventually led the 30 team league in points by rookies. Sappy sappy. But it makes me smile. :) link And here's the team securing the last two points it needed to guarantee a spot in the playoffs with a win in overtime against Washington Thursday night. A bunch of very happy hockey players. :) link |

I am married and became a father a few months ago. Now, before all this (when I was still a single) I was at a cousin's wedding where I saw a girl. I was attracted to her immediately. However, due to the occasion and the fact that she never left her mom's side (or vice-versa), i could not do much about it. Life moved on, and a few years later (I mean last weekend), we watched the video of that wedding. When I saw that girl in the video, the memories of the day came rushing back. I looked her up on Facebook and foudn that she is still single.... Anyway, last few days...I've been thinking about her a lot...like I used to think about girls back when I was ateenager/single... Mind you, I am happily married and all...so these thoughts are making me mightly uncomfortable. Any other married/commited folks ever been in such situation? |

ParisNair wrote: Mind you, I am happily married and all...so these thoughts are making me mightly uncomfortable. The woman is an enigma, I think it’s natural for an interest in her to be reignited. What you do – or better yet, don’t do – with that (hopefully fleeting) interest is what matters. As for others feeling the same way, I'd suggest 'committed' people look and fantasize more than they will admit. Keep in mind, though, whether they’re planned or not, babies change things. Maybe that’s what you’re responding to. If so, you might also keep in mind how much things have changed not only for you but also for your wife – the woman who carried, labored with and delivered YOUR child. Focus, man. Focus. And stay away from the other woman's facebook page. Just sayin'. |

ParisNair wrote: Mind you, I am happily married and all...so these thoughts are making me mightly uncomfortable. Any other married/commited folks ever been in such situation?Twice in 25 or 30 years I've felt pulled somewhere else while in an exclusive relationship, but both times it was symptomatic of some pretty deep unhappiness and both times the feelings were just one more indicator that I needed to make changes, which I did in both cases, followed by extended periods of reflective singleness. So that's entirely different from managing these feelings within an intact marriage. All that to say you may want to take my thoughts with a grain of salt. :) The ever gathering reality in any long term commitment is that things are given up for the securities and benefits and dependable love it ideally provides. Sometimes you hardly notice you've given anything up and sometimes you are acutely aware. In particular the months following the birth of a first baby are profoundly transformative. There seems to me to be a cultural sensitivity for the mother's experience that can at times come at the expense of the father's. It can be a time when a new dad feels pushed aside as a husband and sometimes even as a father and it can go unaddressed for a long time. No idea if that's even remotely relevant to your situation, but it's worth bearing in mind that it is a tremendous period of adjustment that requires both husband and wife to not lose sight of each other in the transition. The last thing I'd say is that your feelings of discomfort are fragile. Give them attention and treat them with the utmost care because we humans have a remarkable capacity to rationalize just about any behaviour or decision, usually by degrees and mostly uncritically. This won't be the last time you will feel this way but it will be the first time you decide how to handle it and a precedent is a powerful thing. Within a generally happy relationship in it's most simplistic sense it's perhaps about requiring something of ourselves and a question of who we want to be as men and women, as fathers and mothers, as husbands and as wives. Good luck with it in any case. Hopefully the situation passes and leaves you still happy but with experience gained. :) |

Any other married/commited folks ever been in such situation? It's human, it doesn't mean that your marriage is bad or that things should change with your wife, and it doesn't mean that you must be unhappy in your current life... We all make choices, and there are many directions we could go in, but the choices we made (and continually make) are shaping our current lives. You obviously love your wife, and you say you are happy, but it's natural to wonder 'what if,' especially after a baby and a length of time with someone. But if you value what you have, don't let yourself get carried away with the fantasy of a different life. Facebook lets us say a lot more then we would say if we ran into someone in the street, and things can get a lot more intimate then anyone intends fairly fast. You can't control an initial interest or desire in someone, but you can stop yourself from focusing on it and embracing it. And you can control your actions. My benchmark is to act with guys in a way that i'd be comfortable with my boyfriend acting with girls (and for him, he can act in a way that would be ok for me to act). So is it ok with you for your wife to add old love interests on facebook and talk to them? If it's something you need to hide from her, then it's something you shouldn't do. But i know it's easy to sit behind a computor and give advice -- reality is much more complicated. |

My hockey team creamed Montreal last night 6-1 in front of 20,000+ unhappy Habs fans to take their first best of seven playoff series round in five games. Montreal was the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference of the NHL, Ottawa the 7th. Go Sens! :) The second to last game was highway robbery. The Sens evened it up with 23 seconds remaining after Montreal held the lead for a huge stretch and then they took it in OT within 2 and a half minutes. They probably heard the roar of Scotiabank Place in Australia. For reference, Australia is a mysterious and murky country that looks like every other place in the world, according to me. link link |

But it's true about online friends -- you can say things and (usually) they don't come back to bite you, as long as you're reasonably sensible. When i was going through some extremely rough stuff for a few years, i couldn't get out of the house much other then just work or college, i had almost no 'real' friends, and fewer who i could talk to, but online friends kept me sane and taught me to communicate properly when i was able to get out into real life again. My fiance can't understand the idea of talking to people online, or how someone on a computor who you haven't met could possibly be a valuable part of life, and i've tried explaining it and just can't explain it. But online people have helped me so much, and allowed me to have communication with others when i couldn't see many people in real life. And some things are too sensitive to say to real life people, cos they know the other people involved. |

I'll keep it going........ After seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd last night in Lancaster, PA, I am still humming I Know A Little while working in the office. The show was much better than I expected it to be. I didn't even know they were coming around, especially since they just played the Philadelphia area back in July along with Bad Co. My wife surprised me with two tickets for my birthday back in August. It was a very good show! Even though I haven't heard Freebird since the last time I turned on the radio, it was pretty impressive live last night! Their triple guitar attack sounded fantastic. It was definitely a fun night. |

I'm turning 40 in just over a week... Even though we've never met, please tell me I still look like I'm 25... I am now the age Freddie was at Live Aid. I look at his performance and charisma that day and then I look at myself and marvel at what he was able to do - not even considering HIV. |

Grrr... this is not a good bank holiday weekend. It started out great on friday, saturday was good too, mostly, but it's going downhill!!! I'm sick, have been sick for a week now with an earache (not bad enough to be off work, but bad enough to be tired and cranky). Then we had a stupid argument (over nothing, i might add). And now, my husband was meant to take the day off today. That changed to 'i need to go to show someone else where the job is,' which changed to 'i need to work for an hour or so,' which then changed to 'i'll work for one or two hours til the short job is finished, then drop the lads to the next one and come home, it'll only take about two hours or a bit more.' Then it changed to 'i'm not sure but it won't be long.' And now, he left this morning and won't be home til 4.30 (which probably means about 5.30, as he's usually running a lot later then he thinks.) And the worst is, my friends all went off for the day and i didn't go cos he was meant to be off work, and he rarely has a full day off unless we have to go somewhere. Or if he is off, then i'm tied up with stuff or we have other things going on. :( Poor little me lol. I know i don't have much to complain about, but i am pissed off and freezing cold and sick and i was so much looking forward to a nice day together. |

Surely I am not the only one who finds it odd that quite a few people write "of" when they mean "have". What's up with that? |
catqueen 04.11.2013 15:39 |
ParisNair wrote: Surely I am not the only one who finds it odd that quite a few people write "of" when they mean "have". What's up with that?In my area, because of our accent, people often write 'been' instead of 'being' because they pronounce it the same. |
ParisNair 05.11.2013 02:17 |
There was one guy in my office who would always write "attain" instead of "attend". For example "attain a meeting". And people confuse idle and ideal so much out here, it leads to very funny statements a lot of times. If people pronounce "been" instead of "being" then i can see how they write the same without thinking about it. But "of" instead of "have"...I find that unreasonable. Do people say "of" instead of "have" in some regions? |
MySharona 05.11.2013 10:41 |
ParisNair wrote: Surely I am not the only one who finds it odd that quite a few people write "of" when they mean "have". What's up with that?I think it comes from contractions like 'would've'. The shortened 've' sounds very much like 'of' and people end up typing things like "would of" instead of "would've" or "would have". |

I am into binge watching whole seasons of TV series nowadays. The one I am watching at the moment is Twin Peaks. Its from 1990-91 I believe. I finished season 1 and am now into season 2. Considering the vintage, and how production values have changed big time in the interim (especially over the last 2-3 years), Twin Peaks does not feel dated at all. The last episode I watched had James singing a love song with Laura's cousin and Donna singing chorus. Has to be one of the most weird moments on TV ever. His high-pitched singing voice is hilarious. Anyone here remembers having watched the show? |

It was the most romantic setting anyone could have asked for. Candlelit flickery bits flickering upon the red flowery wallpaper of her home. And oh, how her hair looked so hairy. Without warning, she leaned forward and kissed me for what seemed like an eternity - as it was slightly boring. To my surprise, I found myself thinking about the flavour of beans and salad cream, and how the dirty cow hadn't bothered to clean her teeth. It was at this moment, the smell of candle wax sent me somewhat walla walla bing bang and oops up side my head! Spontaneously, I asked her the very question I'd wanted to ask since the moment I set eyes on her at the farm. "Would you let me fart gently, and lovingly, in the palm of your hand?" She stood back and gasped, clutching her delicate breasts. I immediately took advantage of her astonishment, and leapt down to my knees. "How could you deny yourself such warmth and affection?" I cried. Oddly enough, it was to be the last time we ever saw one another. |

Great folly was found to be the end of the giants. Their era was far below the mountainous regions of Crotchbury. Yet, a distinctive odor permeated all the expanses, akin to much bodily expenses... Fee, fie, foe, fumble.... and with a swift change of regional code, the giants were eviscerated. Forums greater than random posit a personal thread of post replies, they had said, but they had also demonstrated it. It took several hours to get the point across.... though their hands spoke loudly, they erred profoundly. |
