Hello everybody ! feelin' good?
I am Mauro from italy, a devoted fan of Rog's !!!!
I did not wash my right hand after i hold his one in milan's theatre (wwry premiere)
My question is: wich snare is roger holding in the Queen+pr 2008 tour programme? wich is he using in the tour? the same one? the same one used in karkiv show? pls teeeell me wich is the model :))))
What a taste for sound, Roger's "paaf" sound with snare and charlestone is the most amazing one in Rock music after freddie's voice ;)

I'm pretty shure that it is the LUDWIG LS403 14"X6,5" MAPLE SNARE
which you can see here: link
and on this site you can here sound samples (eventhough the picture is wrong, it shows the smaller one): link

Although I dont know the answer to your question, I share your hand shake thing. I shook Brians at WWRY in melbourne, ...did the whole no-wash thing to... :)
After some research, I found this:
Until 2008, Taylor exclusively used Ludwig or Sleishman drums kits, or a combination of the two in the 2005 Return of the Champtions Tour. In the recent Queen + Paul Rodgers 2008 The Cosmos Rocks tour he opted for a DW kit.
DW Natural satin Maple Kit Main kit on tour Toms - 10"x8", 12"x 10" & 14"x12"
Floor Toms - 16"x 16" & 18"x16"
Bass Drum - 26"x 18"
Snare Drum - 14"x 8" (Ludwig Classic Maple)
Roto-Toms - 12" & 14" Remo
Cymbals (all Zildjian) Hi-Hats - 15" Avedis New Beat
Crash: 17" K Dark Crash, 19" K Dark Crash & 20" K Dark Crash
Ride: 22" Avedis Ping Ride
China: 22" Oriental China Trash
Drum Pedal – DW 9002 (On all live performances with Queen, Taylor's pedal of choice was the Ludwig Speed King)
DW Black Mirra with 24 carat gold hardware Front of stage kit Toms - 10"x8", 12"x10" & 14"x12"
Floor Toms - 16"x16" & 18"x16"
Bass Drum - 24"x18"
Sub-Bass Drum - 24" x 8"
Snare Drum - 14"x6.5"
Roto-Toms - 12" & 14" Remo
Vic Firth Drumsticks X5B American Classic Extreme 5B (length : 16 1/2" | Diameter : 0.595")
So while Roger is primarily sticking with DW, he is also still using a Ludwig Classic Maple snare, which working @ Guitar Center for a while and having the opportunity to play one, it was one of the cleanest snares I ever had the luxury to play. If you find one, take the opportunity to grab it!
The snare is indeed the ludwig classic maple 14x6.5 natural finish, this and a 8" version were supplied at the time of the natural maple kit back around the time the band made The Miracle
Roger also has his favorite snare a 1967 classic maple natural finsih snare dating back to recording Bo Rap which can be seen on his early kits from the early 70's
His kits were pretty well all the same classic maple kits just different finishes natural, black, sliver sparkle, chrome.
He has used a number of other kits over the years, Premier, Gretsch, Yamaha, Sleishman and more recently DW which he now endorses.
The basic kit that has been the standard sizes are as follows
Bass 26x18
Snare 14x6.5
Toms 10x9 13x13 14x14
Floor toms 16x16 18x18
During the 'races' period he added a few smaller toms and sometimes had a floating tom above his floor tom on the right, if you have ever wondered how he does the roll on 'champions' it's because he had the single headed floating tom to the right leading straight to the 16 and 18 floor toms, hence the seamingly super fast move from high to low toms in the roll.
IMO ludwig made the best sounding drums until DW came along who are simply amazing
FYI I have the same 80's silver sparkle Ludwig kit as Roger...it sounds huge!!! pic enclosed hopefully!
