Does Freddie sound like he has a cold on this track or is the laid back manner of the his vocal intentional?. It sounds fantastic either way.
I ask because I don't think I've heard Freddie sound like that before? I know he could sing many different styles of music, but it kind of reminds me of the track on FM Rarities 1 where he sang with an obvious cold, God Is Heavy?
EDIT: Sorry for title spelling
I actually just heard this track less than an hour ago. A lot of singers sing "from the head", but not necessarily all the time. Bryan Ferry sang one of his solo albums completely from the head, and Stevie Nicks does it from time to time. I don't care for the result because it sounds like the singer has a cold. But I really enjoyed hearing Freddie do a very laid back take like this when his delivery is normally balls to the walls, even on mellow ballads.
I love this take, in a way, i wish the song had been left like this, i mean, the live versions, in my opinion anyway, always sounded better because they were like this take...the Red Special somewhat ruins the sentimentality of the song.

Although I like the guitar orchestration and vocal harmonies of the original version, I too prefer this accoustic take. Sounds much genuine and sincere to me.
