The ginger cookies I'm spoiling dinner with as I type are just the best thing. I love ginger cookies! They're delicious and they make me think of my grandfather who passed long ago but with whom I would have long and crunchy ginger snap sessions. On the other hand, I despise raw tomatoes. I mean you dont'. even. know. Once tomatoes are mangled and cooked into absolutely anything else I think they're great and more than pull their weight in the world of food. But raw they are just beyond atrocious and I have no idea how people can eat them.
So, what foods do you love? Hate?
I once burned out the motor of a food processor making a too thick batch of gingerbread cookies for Christmas.
They are so good.
I have a similar thing with carrots. I like them raw, but not cooked. I can't stand a whole baked sweet potato, but sliced thinly and grilled - love it.
Even if '1 food processor, room temperature' was like the third ingredient on every ginger cookie recipe in the world, ginger cookies would still be worth it. I have one of those hand held blender thingies that I use exclusively for my soapmaking hobby. That seems wise because what it goes into is RAW LYE. I walked into my mother using it in my kitchen last Christmas season on this massive and time consuming batch of something or other. After being informed, she was,um, not that festive.
I kind of hated pizza until I was in my early twenties. That's just weird.
I don't think I've ever had a ginger cookie. Is it like a molasses cookie? Is it soft or crunchy?
I was trying to think of a food I don't like and came up with Brussel Sprouts. Not even sure how to spell it.
I like fresh foods best over canned or frozen foods.
It is like a molasses cookie. They can be both, but they're best crunchy I think. Molasses muffins are really, really good too.
I have some frozen Brussels sprouts. I've had them for a very, very long while. I have no plans for them at this time.
I went through a period when I ate so much lasagna I thought I was turning into Garfield. Now I can hardly bare to look at the stuff.
Guilty pleasure? An Ulster fry up. Deeply unhealthy. I only ever have one when I vist home once or twice a year. That's probably good for my lifespan. I could munch on Tayto Cheese and Onion crisps until I need a stomach pump -- which is why, again, I tend to only eat them when I go back home.
To GFF and queenUSA:
I don't know if there is a difference between gingerbread cookies and ginger cookies, but I have a collection of gingerbread recipes (not that I have tried them out -ha.). Most of them call for molasses, brown sugar, and spices in addition to ginger, such as cinnamon, and cloves. One calls for nutmeg and black pepper. Anyway, if you have eaten a gingerbread man, you will be familiar with the taste. It leaves sort of a hot feeling in your mouth from the ginger. One of my recipes says it makes a crisp cookie, but if you want a softer cookie, then use one quarter the flour. That would just change the ratio of ingredients I guess, to give you a higher ratio of butter, or egg, etc., which must make a softer cookie. I discovered recently that if you want a gingerbread taste in your mouth, just combine ground ginger with honey and put that on toast.
^^^ Gingerbread I do like, especially so at Christmastime. A soft batch is great, but I also dunk them in coffee or milk to soften. How about the Annas brand of cookies that are razor thin? I believe they are "ginger-ish" but could be mistaken. Can't just eat one. I also like Lotus brand sold as "Biscoff" in the USA or as "Speculos" as they are known in Belgium. Anyone care for these brands?
Right now there is a cupcake craze in the USA and I wish it would die out really - it's a bit silly all those cupcakes.
