In the latest issue of Rolling Stone (with Lady GaGa on the cover) they review Queen's debut album (the remastered one just out in the States) and SHOCK(!) give it FOUR STARS. Keep in mind, the highest grade they give is 5. Here is the text;
"When Queen debuted in 1973, their mix of hammering jams and folksy asides was closer to Zeppelin than to the stadium-killing theatricality they would later perfect. This revelatory reissue - one of five Queen albums being rereleased with BBC sessions, live cuts, B sides and more - highlights the band's raw roots, particularly on a series of 1971 demos. On those tracks Freddie Mercury already belts like the superstar he'd become, but the instrumental intensity nearly upstages him: Brian May's guitar screams through bolder and longer versions of "Jesus" and "Liar" while the rhythm section gallops in tight formation. Later LPs are more refined, but this two-disc set is a compelling portrait of vehement and nearly violent art." Key tracks; "Jesus" (De Lane Lea demo), "Keep Yourself Alive"
What a crock of shit. Music criticism is the lowest use of the English language.
And what is it about the human psyche that causes such a broad swath of humanity to only appreciate people once they're dead? Freddie gets the cold shoulder from music snobs for twenty years but once he croaks, everybody falls all over themselves to talk about his genius. How about a little of that while people are alive and can appreciate it?
I agree with Dr. Zoidberg. I mean, Rolling Stone never EVER gave a good review to Queen, EVER!!
Listen to this review for 'Jazz' back in '78 ;
It's easy to ascribe too much ambition to Queen.
'Fat Bottomed Girls' isn't sexist - it regards women not as sexual objects but as objects, period(the way the band regards people in general). When Mercury chants in 'Let Me Entertain You', about selling his body and his willingness to use any device to thrill his audience, he isn't talking about a sacrifice for his art. He's just confessing his shamelessness, mostly because he's too much of a boor to feel stupid about it.
Whatever it claims, Queen isn't here just to entertain. This group has come to make it clear exactly who is superior and who is inferior. Its anthem, 'We Will Rock You', is not a marching order: YOU will NOT rock us, WE will rock YOU. Indeed, Queen may be the first truely Fascist rock band. The whole thing makes me wonder why anyone would indulge these creeps and their polluting ideas.
Fascist. FASCIST!!!!!! Like how can u go from that to liking them?

Probably because the reviews were written by DIFFERENT PEOPLE
Positive or negative, Rolling Stone reviews are not worth wiping one's arse with. Aside from the odd article that might be worth Googling, the magazine is trash. There's a review for you.
