I thought I should give some clarification on a new book. I've received a few emails where people are confusing this with the I WANT IT ALL! book. This new Carlton Books project is NOT the Greg Brooks/Brian May 'Queen collection' IWIA book. This is a completely different and unrelated project that myself and Richard Gray have been working this past 12 months on with Carlton. It's a really lovely book, with lots of text written by respected journalist Harry Doherty (who wrote lots of great stuff about Queen back in the 70s), and many great photos. There are lots of informative captions too, penned by myself and Gary Taylor, but most of all... this book focuses around and is based upon Queen memorabilia that kind of.... errr.... pull out, fold out, detach, open or close, etc. We call them 'facsimile items'.... things that are not merely photographs on a page. You can actually pick these things up and look at them. It's a tactile experience, not just a good read. Richard and I went thru BM's entire collection and pulled out all kinds of weird and wonderful objects that best lend themselves to this concept. I have to confess to choosing some really strange things, not thinking for a second that the band, RG or Carlton would necessarily like them, but to my surprise they did. Thus... 95% of the things pulled out to show them, DO now feature in the book. A couple of the REALLY weirdo things didn't get thru!!!! A cut-out Freddie from a Dutch magazine, in which you had to attach string to the arms and legs to make FM move and sing.... that got discarded. And the Queen (debut album) playing cards didn't happen, which was a massive shame. But everything else is there.... somewhere. Plus a great interview CD with Queen from 1977, minus the music, which, if you've not heard it, makes for fascinating listening. A wonderful concert poster from Liverpool 1973, the Crazy (red/black/white, landscape shape) poster from 79, tickets, promo Hot Space cube, press kits, invitations, a NOTW robot themed menu from Holland, etc. There are some really fab things here in a book that took a lot of effort and time to get right by all concerned. It was an exciting thing to be involved in, more or less painless, and has resulted in something that I think is truly exceptional and unusual. Innovative, inventive too. The I WANT IT ALL! project got put back til 2012 I'm afraid, because of all the 40th anniversary celebrations and products, and because this Carlton book also features memorabilia. We did not want there to be any confusion... though there is a tiny bit just now, but no actual conflict because my book isn't out there yet. Both of them out there at the same time was not the best idea. When IWIA does emerge, it will be probably 360-400 full colour pages, featuring EVERY Queen project from 1971 to present - whereas this new 40 Years book dips into things in a much more fleeting way. My book, for example, will have 8 or 10 pages of NATO memorabilia and posters, where this one has a 2-page NATO spread - which is beautifully done. The design and layout in this book are stunning in my opinion. And EVEN Richard Gray is impressed... and that's not to be taken for granted. The two books are quite different, but both offer things that the other does not. These are great and exciting times for Queen collectors, I think... Queen books anyway. See what you make of it. You can finally have your very own copy of Bo Rhap blue vinyl!!!! Ok, it's cardboard, and all are numbered 26 (as per BM copy)... but don't be picky. If you have £5,000 you can have an original. This will do in the meantime. |

Was there a list kept of who was given which numbered copy, and is No 26 the ONLY copy that Brian has, or does he have more than 1?? Cheers for the info Greg - your IWIA book sounds as if it will be worth the wait. A bold statement to make that it covers EVERY Queen project from '71 to now - does this include items issued via the Official Fan Club, such as window stickers, sew on patches etc.., or is it purely and strictly ONLY 100% QPL and EMI/Capitol/Hollywood etc... official merchandise? |

I've been thinking about that same question. Will it be like the readers digest old fashioned one that they did for The Beatles Christmas message release. as I have that. |

If your there GB, just wondering if there's any updates on this? As per your article in the the Winter fan club mag 2012 it was hoped that this would be released by Christmas 2013, any hope it will be released for this Christmas? Your summary sounds amazing, been looking forward to this for years. |

Hi I have joined this site just now. Yes its about the Queen: I Want It All , book by Brian May. My mum in law 7 my wife searched all the bookstores and searched on line for the book when mum in law heard about it. All they got was "sorry we are still waiting for it to be released from the printers" the time frame was 6 weeks they usually] were given. I am a massive Queen and Freddie fan, and each time a new book comes out its bough as a gift for birthdays, xmas, or just a gift with no reason. They chased after this book since mum heard about it in 2009. Then its out I find it on amazon uk paper back released 2010, but not available it's "Out Of Print" I've read on here it was put on hold till 2014, now its nearly the end of 2014. Was it ever published, if the answers no then there must be a lot more fans pissed off like me, Cath and Pat. One assumption as to why it didn't emerge is that Brian wanted something in the book, but needed permission/copy write from John Deacon who said no. Deep down I admit Queen the band died the day Freddie sadly left us Deacon had to right idea, no Fred no Queen, he bowed out of the limelight, and became John Deacon the married man with kids again. So if this book is anywhere can some one please point us in the right direction.. Thanks and thank you Freddie. |
