Hi guys, just to introduce myself. I'm going to be portraying Freddie Mercury on the Legends show this year on Blackpool's Central Pier. If anyone is in the area during the Summer season please come and watch this fabulous show.
If you would like to follow me on Facebook as well that would be great, just like my fanpage. link
I am an absolutely major Queen fan and to be able to do this job is a dream come true.
Cheers,
Dean
n.b. I also feature in a two piece Queen show called Queen UK, and with full live band Queen Fever.
The line up changes every year, but as yet Freddie has remained a constant. Anyways although I am here to give a little shout out, I would really like a few 'like's on my facebook fan page.
Peace, love and vodka
Dean
Saw Steve Littlewood twice at that show, once in 2004 and then again in 2009 - he sucked both times lol
His guitarist doubled as Buddy Holly, I believe. Hopin you're better lol
Btw, it's still his (Littlewood's) image they're showing on the official website, and all I can say is you look incredibly like him based on the pics you provided hehehe
Anyway, sorry I can't seem to get on your FB page - can you please upload some video/audio please? Thanks in advance, and welcome to QZ!!
I was in Blackpool for a few days there, and decided to go to the legends show last night. This year, for the show I booked, it was Tom Jones, Robbie Williams, Meat Loaf and Freddie Mercury.
The guy performing as Tom Jones was good. He sounded like him and, although Tom is not my cup of tea, he did do the well known songs and was quite enjoyable.
The Robbie tribute performed with lots of energy, and put on a good show - he had the cocky, arrogant swagger and the RW charecteristics AND even looked like him, but only actually sounded like him in places. Good, though.
Meat Loaf was absolutely spot on, performing all the hits to perfection. IMHO, he was the highlight of the night.
As for Freddie......
Disappointing. Sorry, Dean, but it just wasn't right buddy. You performed with great enthusiasm, but the voice just wasn't there. You didn't sound like Freddie, you sang your own versions of the songs, you got most of the phrasing wrong and often the lyrics too.
Don't get me wrong, you can sing, and you have an excellent voice. If I had heard you in a club, just singing a Queen song, I would've thought it was great - but you're portraying Freddie without being like Freddie!
If anyone is thinking about going to this show, make sure Meat Loaf is on the bill!
