I didn't know before that there's two different Stone Cold Crazy remixes made by Michael Wagener. The first one is bonus remix on 1991 Sheer Heart Attack reissue, and the second one is remix from Encino Man soundtrack. Encino Man version is much heavier than bonus remix, with different guitars and drums mixing, much louder intro and some studio chat in the end. Personally, I'm more prefer soundtrack version. |

That's correct. HR also changed the bonus to the soundtrack remix in the later issues of SHA. |

Hm, I have no idea which one do I have now :-) Any youtube links for comparison of those remixes ? |

Best way to recognise remix is listen to the finale. If finale is clean, then this is bonus-only version, if you can hear laughter, then this is soundtrack version. |

Both versions (SHA bonus track and Encino Man OST track 3) are identical with laughing at the end. |
inu-liger 03.04.2011 04:12 |
One major difference: The line "I ran right outta juice" is mixed to the right channel in the Encino Man version, center in the regular 1991 Remix version |

I just found the remix with different sound and no laughing indeed. For about 20 years I didn't know about it existance... Thanks. Today I have found three different versions of SHA Hollywood Records remaster. Logically they were released in next order: 1) Lap Of The Gods edited + SCC (Wagener remix like on Encino Man OST with laughing) 2) Lap Of The Gods corrected (unedited) + SCC (Wagener remix like on Encino Man OST with laughing) 3) Lap Of The Gods corrected (unedited) + SCC (Wagener remix without laughing and closer sound to the original version) So I think remix without laughing in the end and closer sound to the original album version was added into latter pressings of the HR remaster. So here are 2 questions: is this remix also by Michael Wagener and when it was mixed...? |

Yes, and also in 1991. |

Both remixes made by Michael Wagener, and I think that they were made in same time. There is a lot of unreleased 1991 remixes, some of them were released in 1992 and 1999 on promo CDs, some of them remains unreleased. Question is why one remix was altered on later pressings. Maybe because HR didn't want to release same remix on two different releases (for example, 12" WWRY Ruined/AOBTD Long Dusted B-Boy promo contains unique extended version of this [WWRY Ruined] mix with some added bits in second part, then question is why 12" WWRY/WATC promo doesn't includes this extended version) Then, SCC Encino Man promo video also contains soundtrack version remix, but, as far as I know, in edited form without In the Lap of the Gods segue. |

Bah, another song version I've gotta track down now :P I think my copy has the Encino Man version, and it also contains the error version ITLOTG. |

My SHA CD has the edited "In The Lap Of The Gods" and the "Stone Cold Crazy" remix WITH the laughter. I never picked up the 'corrected' version, as I eventually came to possess the Japanese LP reproduction of the album. This reminds me of the various versions of The Great Pretender album in the US. There are at least four: 01) Original release with "Living On My Own (1992 Julian Raymond Mix)" 02) Second release with "Living On My Own (1993 Radio Mix)" [by No More Brothers] - this is the version I have 03) Third release with "Living On My Own (1992 Julian Raymond Mix)" and the unlisted "1993 Techno Mix" 04) Fourth release with "Living On My Own (1992 Julian Raymond Mix) and listed "1993 Techno Mix" The second release, which I own, has the same booklet as the Original release, which lists it as the Julian Raymond Mix, but it IS the Radio Mix. I have the 1993 Canadian "Living On My Own" CD Single, which lists that version correctly as the Radio Mix (yet screwed up by listing the Julian Raymond Mix as the "L.A. Mix" [which is entirely different], which proves nothing is ever easy with song versions). I also cross-referenced each mix with the FM Solo Collection boxed set. |

hey, Rhye - so, for those of us still struggling to process all these versions... can you lay out which are and aren't on the FM box set / labeled under different names? Actually would love a comprehensive overview of the MW SCC mixes too... for those of us completists: what are we missing and where are the alternate versions available... thanks... |

Mix is made by Julian Raymond and this could be just a typo on cover rather than misprint on CD. |

Okay, for those who asked... First, the versions in the FM boxed set are correctly labelled. Second, some additional versions are not present on the FM boxed set. Third, both those included and not included occasionally have a different name on different releases, though some are unidentified on the label or sleeve as being different. Anyway, here goes... 1985 The following are based on the original Mr. Bad Guy version, be they extended or edited. 01) Album Version Available on Mr. Bad Guy and the FM boxed set 02) Single Edit On the 7" Single and the US 12" Single 03) UK Extended Version On the UK 12" Single, UK Mr Bad Guy CD and the FM boxed set Called "Extended Version" on the FM boxed set 04) US Extended Version On the US 12" Single 05) Early + Later Hybrid Mix On the FM boxed set 1992 The next wave of remixes come to promote The Freddie Mercury Album (UK) and The Great Pretender (US). Here's where things get a bit crazy and confusing. 06) Julian Raymond Mix On the The Freddie Mercury Album; the 1st, 3rd & 4th editions of The Great Pretender, and Queen+ Greatest Hits III, and the FM boxed set This is the most easily found remix. This remix is incorrectly call the "L.A. Mix" on some releases (such as the 1993 Canadian CD single) 1993 April 07) Radio Mix On The Great Pretender (2nd Edition, mistakenly labelled as the Julian Raymond Mix in the booklet), most 1993 7", 12" and CD singles (but not all), The Very Best Of... and on the FM boxed set. This is the version that went to #1 in 1993. No idea why only one pressing of TGP swapped it for the JR Mix. Remixed by No More Brothers. The next two remixes are based on this mix. April 08) Extended Mix On 1993 CD singles and 12" singles, The Very Best Of... and the FM boxed set Based on the Radio Mix April 09) Dub Mix Only on the 1993 UK 12" "Living On My Own: The Remixes" single (with the white sleeve and yellow text). Also based on the Radio Mix 10) Club Mix On 1993 CD singles and 12" singles, and the FM boxed set Also by No More Brothers, but sounding nothing like the Radio Mix 11) L.A. Mix On the 1993 UK 12" single and German CD single Remixed by Julian Raymond 12) Techno Mix On the 3rd & 4th editions of The Great Pretender Remixed by Julian Raymond, and sounds very similar to the L.A. Mix 13) Underground Solutions Mix On the UK "In My Defence" CD Single (Part 2), Freddie Mercury Remixes CD and the FM boxed set Remixed by Roger S. and sometimes referred to as the "Roger S Mix." 2006 The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo: Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs collection is released, both as a single disc and a double disc set. This gives us a few new remixes. 14)The Egg Remix Found on The Very Best Of... 2 CD limited edition and a UK promo CD single Remixed by The Egg 15) The Egg Extended Disco Dub On a rare 1-sided UK 12" promo single Based on The Egg Remix For more descriptions of each version, check out the QueenVault.com site. I hope this helps |
