Which do you think is the most passionate vocal performance by Freddie? Could be live or studio. For me, its We are the champions at Hammersmith Odeon 26th December 1979, particularly after Freddie leaves the piano. I think this one is even better than the version at Newcastle earlier that month. |

I might agree with you |

"In My Defence" has to be up there somewhere. The man is singing as if his life depends on it. It's a passionate as anything he ever sang in Queen. |
The Real Wizard 01.03.2011 01:01 |
My vote goes for A Winter's Tale. Nobody can possibly describe what he must have felt while recording that. Same goes for Warren Zevon while recording his last record.. |
plumrach 01.03.2011 02:31 |
i dont know about passionate but the most heartfelt must of been when he was singing mother love, the lyrics are just so in the moment and he knew what he was doing and he put his heart and soul into it for example some of the lines But my heart is heavy, and my hope is gone I long for peace before I die just to sing those two lines knowing he did have not got long left just shows how determined he was to keep singing |

Death On Two Legs. The song showed Freddie's anger and loathing of the guy who took advantage of the band. |

It is actually among my absolute favorite Zevon records (though I honestly can't say I dislike any of them). |

Hmmm, it's difficult to name only one, since he was such a passionate singer. I agree with those who said "In my defence" and "Death on two legs". I'd also add "The show must go on", although he was not in his best vocal shape. Gosh, I remember these songs and get goosebumps. |
jamster1111 01.03.2011 08:37 |
I think it has to be Somebody to Love. |
bokkepoot 01.03.2011 09:23 |
I go for this one: 15 - Guide Me Home , How Can I Go On (Alternate Version) This one is taken from the Freddie Mercury Box, the rarities CD 2 Barcelona sessions. Really moving and passionate singing from Freddie. Practising to impress Montserat Cabballe (just my feeling). Also In my defense is a very moving and passionate song. |

It does'nt fall into the 'heartfelt' or 'passionate' category, 'cos it's maybe frivilous , but 'killer queen' is absolutely the most delightful, joyous vocal i've heard in my natch.Unequalled talent i'm afraid. 'And there you have it' . Master Marathon Runner |

My Baby Does Me 1:30-1:51 nearly everybody hates this song (I don't) but listen this part. verrryyy passionate vocal moment by Freddie. |

Hangman_96 01.03.2011 16:55 |
I think the most passionate is Bohemian Rhapsody from Budapest on July 27, 1986. Although, Freddie's voice isn't in great shape, he sings it so passionate. It still remains my favourite live version of Bo Rhap ever! |
princetom 01.03.2011 19:19 |
millionaire waltz, studio version "how we danced and played..." timeless passion here ! |

The studio versions of Who Wants To Live Forever, The Show Must Go On and A Winter's Tale. All beautiful moments. |
freddiefan91 02.03.2011 02:47 |
Somebody to Love at Milton Keynes and Love of My Life at Wembley mainly because Mary was there and Freddie was singing it for her and it showed |
Mercuryking 02.03.2011 10:27 |
Show must go on wasnt his best vocal shape? I have to disagree with you and say that show must go on might be his best vocals ever. It sounds tremendously beautiful |
jamster1111 02.03.2011 10:30 |
It might actually be Somebody to Love from the first night of Rock in Rio. It has to be one of the best versions of the song at all time and one of Freddie's best live vocal moments. He sings it perfectly with great emotion. |
br5946 02.03.2011 11:19 |
I think there's a lot of passion in Teo Torriatte (ADATR studio) 0:20 to 0:49. It's A Beautiful Day 0:44 to 1:49 impresses me no end, with 1:14-1:16 and 1:38 as standout on there because of the vocal rising over the instruments that suddenly appear. A New Life is Born 0:35 to 1:14 is probably the most passionate studio bootleg moment. While I'm on studio bootlegs may I also throw Self Made Man 2:05 to 2:34 because that's when the vocals are most hearable and Freddie belts out over the choatic instrumental backing. The first verse of Your Kind of Lover is good also. Other Freddie solo tracks that are passionate include Goin' Back. It's peculiar that was sampled in Mother Love, because on this thread a lot of people think Mother Love is passionate. I agree partially, even though I've never really been able to get into that song. And to end the reactions that this might get, my reason being probably because it's Freddie's last song. The whole sense of melancholy around it has dampened the track for me. It's the low point of MiH. Sorry to any fans who think Mother Love is one of the greats. My opinion is mine, other people's opinions are theirs. That's all I can say. |
Wiley 02.03.2011 11:23 |
I can't believe nobody has mentioned "You Take My Breath Away" so far (Well, I just did). The last time he sings "I will fiiiiiind you", hitting a high note without the backing choir. Both studio and the live versions are great. A very intimate Freddie moment, if there ever was any, in my opinion. |

It's so beautiful that it makes me cry every now and then, and I'd give my life if I could sing like he did in this song, and I consider it one of his most passionate moments, but in comparison with other albums his voice is not that great (as it was between Jazz and The Miracle, IMHO). |

I'd say his voice was in great shape, on Innuendo. Perhaps his best. But I consider Races to be his best album, vocally. |

You really think that between those years that his vocals was better than TMSGO? I think his voice on show must go on is the most beautiful vocals from him. It sounds so spot on , the tone is super pure , his vibrato is insane and his range is CRAZY. All mixed togheter perfectly. He makes it look so easy singing that song , like its nothing to him. |

About Freddie's late period voice, particularly songs like TSMGO, Mother Love and A winter's tale... they are amazing, without a doubt. He reaches very high notes and he does it beautifully. Still, I also enjoy mid to late 70's Freddie voice more. Innuendo Freddie sounds too nasal at times. The Show Must Go On could be the greatest Queen song and the ultimate Freddie studio moment, but "passionate" is not the first article that comes to mind when I hear it. Extremely powerful, death defiant, plainly awesome... That's more like it. |

I'm going slightly mad, this one is fred in extended excellent vocal. Like the lyrics though. |
Silken 03.03.2011 06:09 |
OK, let's live TSMGO aside because it's something out of this world, but I've been thinking about this: what if what I consider Freddie's weakened, nasal voice in Innuendo is actually a poor mixing? Because A winter's tale and Mother love were recorded more or less at the same time but in both of them he sounds great. |
freddiefan91 03.03.2011 09:07 |
@jamster On the 2nd disk of the wembly disk mary is seen backstage and to me it does sound like Freddie sang Love of My Life with a lot of passion on that particular day |
GratefulFan 03.03.2011 09:16 |
The breadth of the responses here is a testament to the fact that if a song required passion, Freddie could and did deliver it. What about if we flipped the question on it's head a bit? Are there any songs where Freddie 'missed' at all in delivery? Two very quickly off the top of my head might be 'Who Wants to Live Forever', which for me descended to the overwrought at times, and 'Too Much Love Will Kill You'. The latter is not a favourite of mine for a few reasons, but I think Brian captured the feel a song like that needs better than Freddie did. |

I actually think A winters tale togheter with You dont fool me is the most nasal ive heard Freddie sing. Mother love doesnt sound so nasaly. But either way nasaly or not , i think it sounds super nice. I actually prefer his "nasaly" voice if you wanna call it that , that is on the innuendo album. I feel like his voice was the best towards the end. |
