Couldn't get a ticket for Arsenal v Sunderland, so I'm going next week (Sat 5th) while my mates are at the match. Looking forward to it. Hopefully will get some idea of what is in the archives (video footage) and report back. |

Hi folks - was at the Thursday preview. If your a die-hard fan I imagine you've seen a lot of it before. Some interesting vinyl and acetates, "interactive exhibits" i.e. you can watch the Rainbow show (don't know if it's a direct transfer or cleaned up). If you're in the East End defo go but don't you might wanna think twice if you're coming from far away. Managed to get this pic of a Trident Studios acetate. Brian and Roger were there as well as Nick Mason from the Floyd. Few others too. |

I went today and thought it was BRILLIANT! :) There was so much stuff I had never seen before and it was great seeing all the costumes! Unfortunately the 3D video of Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't working properly but other that that I loved it. I would definately recommend it to everyone! |

It's backstage stuff in the dressing room (Fred and Roger camping it up) and concert footage - Millionaire Waltz is one live footage bit. Oh, and there's great footage of Fred playing the drums, Roger on guitar and John playing bass! I've forgotten which US gig but am back there tomorrow. |

I will try - there are four screens showing this same footage but staggered (if you see what I mean), so I will wait until it comes up. |

Just been to the exhibition. Let's keep a sense of reality here. It's OK but not as brilliant as it's being made out to be elsewhere. Basically 6 (not very big) rooms. One devoted to early years and five to each of the 1st five albums. And why not. All it is is a big shop window to advertise the re-mastered albums. Freddie's drawings and clothes were interesting but the best thing is the rare video, especially SSOR, NIH and some interview footage. Also some good quality footage of Hyde Park and Earls Court (which begs the question - why will they not release it?) I was also quite moved at being in the same room as Freddie's white, red and green harlequin costume for the first time in 34 years (the last time being the Summer Tour '77 in England). Apart from that, there wasn't a great deal. A few glass-top flight cases with a few rare album covers and cassettes seemed a bit thrown together. Also, two hospital beds painted red to represent Brian's hepatitis in '74 and Sheer Heart Attack seemed to be trying too hard and a bit wierd. In the main the walls were filled with big chunks of text telling the early Queen story and a lot of big familiar photos. On the way out there were about four tv screens showing videos in 3D. The 3D wasn't very impressive and the remote headphones that accompanied them suffered from a lot of interference or a bad signal. I know it's been raved about elsewhere but most of those reviews were from people that attended the launch party with loads of celebs and free booze. I think that would have improved things 100%. There was definitely a sense of "is that it?" amongst the people leaving. I think that people outside London that are excited by the trailer should think twice before spending a lot of money travelling. Sure it's free admission but apart from the odd item of interest, you'll only be watching a few video clips on screens no bigger than your average home wide-screen. It's also very frustrating to be teased with video stuff you can't legitimately have your own copy of. But , HEY, we're used to that as Queen fans aren't we? I thought John might break his silence since the exhibition is about the old days and nothing to do with post-Freddie abominations. Makes me think his walking away runs a bit deeper than was assumed. |

^ The Making of ANATO 30th anniversary was also John's thing and was he there? No. I have read Jacky Smith's Facebook post about the exibhition and someone asked about John. She said Robert and Luke (John's sons) were there and told her their daddy thought about showing up at the launch all day long, but in the last hour decided not to. I'm from Brazil and I'm going to Europe next week (Paris-Rome) and London wasn't a plan. But now it is. |
Planetgurl 27.02.2011 14:42 |
There is pre USA footage shot by Whistle Test from Shepperton Studios and then the live footage and backstage is from Houston. NIH is from the Xmas edition of '45' (not TOTP - I got that wrong). The three SSOR versions are intercut but I laughed out loud because I saw the famous Dave Lee Travis + broom footage. Great to see that. Budokan footage is included too. Tried to get a shot with DLT+ broom in it but my iphone couldn't cope with it.... |

Bri and Rog reportedly haven't spoken to John in years. Brian was the odd duck out in the early 90s (he and Roger fell out for a little while), and now it's John. Something happened in the 90s, and I guess it isn't anyone's business but theirs.. |

I went on Saturday and actually enjoyed it. Was a bit short as i was in and out in around 45 mins. Definitley recommend the lap tops that are scattered around. You probably get more excitement from the Hyde Park show, and the sound is fantastic the interviews are interesting, like as has been said, freddie on drums and Roger playing the Red Special! And John Reid saying he told the rest of the band he was gay, then told Freddie. freddie turned around and said oh thats ok darling, so am i !! |

Spot on, and there is a very definite sense of anti-climax when you leave. And no there's no merchandise at all - didn't Queenonline say the remastered albums would be available to buy? |
