Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows if the Japanese issues will have different artwork, extras or will be in a double pack? I can't find anything online to suggest that this is the case, but a mate reckons he saw an SHM set advertised in slipcase with different packaging. He can't remember where he saw this as he doesn't really bother with Queen, but as he usually shops with cd japan, I thought it might have been there. However, their site shows the same artwork, and without obi strips! Can anyone shed any light on this? Cheers!
Both albums will be releases today 2011.01.12 on SHM-CDs. The bonus tracks will be Teo Torriatte for GH and I Was Born To Love You for GH2. They seem to come in jewel boxes instead of super jewel boxes. The first pressing (now out of print) comes with bonus stickers with the 40th Anniversary logo. Cat numbers are UICY-15001 and UICY-15002.
Thanks Wilki, much appreciated. Now, when you mention that the first press is discontinued, you're saying that the 2011 re-issues are already being "re-issued", even after just a week?. Bloody incredible, that!
I am listening to the Japanese SHM release of GH and GHII right now and I must say, to me they sure sound better.
I compared e.g. Crazy little thing called love and Somebody to Love with those from original cd albums.
The sound is louder, clearer, better. More technical improvements I cannot judge right now, I leave that to the experts.
The cd's are in jewel case with a strip. They also have a booklet sized sticker with the Queen 40 anniversary logo.
One of them is in black/white, the other white/black.
I already had those bonus tracks from the Jewels DVD's.
But for me the sound is aboslutely GREAT.
2011 is gonna cost me, I'm sure :)
good question.
I thought it was the track from the Japanese Jewels 2 cd, but it's not.
The booklet of the 2011 remaster only says: taken from the album A Day At The Races.
The Jewels 2 cd has the High Definition version.
I listened to those two versions now, and also the original one from ADATR.
They all sound different. I absolutely hear that the 2011 remastered version sounds the BEST !
Strangely that 2011 version has a shortened ending of the cascading sounds from ADATR.
The other two versions (Jewels and orig. ADATR) has the full version of that ending.
So all in all I think 2011 version already has the upcoming ADATR remastered version.
Each 2011 cd has the new Queen 40 crest on the sleeve and inside the booklet every single has a picture of it's single sleeve. The booklet of Greatest Hits II has pictures of the single sleeves and extra pictures included.

The High Definition mix of TT will sound very different as it is a different MIX altogether, not just a remaster of the original ADATR mix! I'm presuming from what you, and the new Japanese booklet say, the mix is the original ADATR one,. (ie it's not not the High Definition mix from the Jewels 2 CD). This is slightly odd though as I thought the High Def mix was the one released and that was a 'hit' a few years back?
If they have done this job properly, It shouldn't actually be the same remaster as the upcoming ADATR though because that should feature another remaster again in order to match the levels etc.. across the tracks on that particular album, whereas this should be 2011 Greatest Hits Remaster to match the levels just for the rest of the compilation.
I suppose it could be that they have just 'tacked' TT (and I Was Born To Love You on GHII) on the end of the Hits albums though, and so they may actually be the remasters from the upcoming studio albums releases, but we will just have to wait and see.
Hope that makes sense?!!!

You may be quite right about this. I just checked the overall sound of the three versions I mentioned. Just by skipping through the song to the same places with every version, so I could hear a difference of each fragment I listened too.
I am sure other Queenzoners will be able to listen to these versions and maybe can explain it better than I can.
the remastered versions sound louder and perhaps clearer. As if they brought sounds upfront. Ehm... now I hope I make sense. :)
I think the 2011 version of TT differs from the High Definition mix.
I would be very pleased to hear others give a more structural review, to be honest. But I'm sure they will come up.
