I'm just a regular Queen fan, and with 2011 being full of milestones in their history, why not get Bohemian Rhapsody to number 1 for a third time?? I created the facebook group above, and if anybody wishes to share or comment, feel free!!
I think it's a good idea, but everyone has their own opinions, so I'm bracing myself!! No harm in trying :-D
Ahh, nice idea!! I just assumed Bo Rhap is the way forward but songs that didn't get the chart success they deserved or non releases would be a cracker too!! Let Queen take every place in the Top 40!!
Bo Rhap has already been number 1 twice in 4 different years, let's make it totally surpassable!!?
Only chose Bo Rhap for the record breaking consequences and the fact that it's IMO the greatest song ever written. But only with Queen is there the option to choose between dozens of songs worthy of a number 1 spot. Eg songs like TSMGO or WWTLF didn't get the chart successes they deserved, there are so many songs to choose from, as well as superb songs not released as singles.
What a great idea. The thought of Queen hitting Christmas number one with ANY song has got me out in goosebumps. Bohemian Rhapsody IF they release it on blue vinyl????
How about one that's more simple? Thank God It's Christmas!!!!
A Winter's Tale is a great shout. Or one that would be totally unexpected - Ogre Battle, or MOTBQ???
I'd personally love any Queen song at Number 1, and there are sooooo many fantastic choices. Bo Rhap for a 3rd time spanning 6 years... unbeatable no? Though there are loads to choose from, MOTBQ is one of my faves, A Winter's Tale and obviously Thank God It's Christmas (Number 1 in 2014 to mark 30 years since release??) Would love something like Sheer Heart Attack at the top lol! Perhaps for the next 20 years Queen can have a different Xmas Number One haha!!
It's going to be hard to get a song to top the charts when that song wasn't even released as a single. What about Keep Yourself Alive? AFAIK that's the only Queen single never to chart... Would be great to suddenly get it to number 1.
No, no, no. Rhapsody was tortured by radio enough, let's not add to this by popularising it even more. This song is special and should be enjoyed only as such, if this makes sense. I support the idea of choosing something a bit less known, just not It's Late or Keep Yourself Alive, as this is somewhat surreal, delicately speaking.
I'm all for getting Queen to #1! Manufactured teen pop has dominated this generation for far too long! It would be cool to get a Queen song to the top on 20th November and get it to reign six weeks so it gets Xmas no.1! The twentieth is the nearest Sunday this year to the anniversary of Freddie's death (R.I.P. Mr. Bad Guy) and so there could be a Queen song at the top to mark the 20th anniversary (v. sobering fact, god bless him). So about we stop talking, and get MOVING! Here are my suggestions for a probable number-one (and I promise there'll be a lot!)
Just so you know in you case didn't, a 'b/w' indicates the proposed #1 is a double A-side
1. Mad the Swine b/w Lost Opportunity (NB: The proper version of Mad, with no intro fade, because the fade cuts off 'Been here before')
2. Goin' Back with Money Can't Buy Happiness as a B-side
3. Long Away with the At the Beeb version of Doin' Alright as a B-side (NB: Long Away would be an edit trimmed down from 4:00 to 3:33, cutting off the weird 'take my breath away' echo section)
4.Your Kind of Lover (originial 1985 version, not '92 remix) with New York as a B-side
5. Headlong, with the "bass & drum machine demo" as a B-side
6. Now I'm Here with Blurred Vision as a B-side
7. Hammer to Fall reissued - i.e. it has Tear It Up on the B like it did on the 7" in '84
8. '39 with the Queen one instrumental version of Seven Seas on the B-side
9. One Rainy Wish b/w Just One Life - JOL is a slight remix which incoorpates Space
10. A trimmed-down single mix of Let Me Out with The Guv'nor as a B-side
11. See What A Fool I've Been b/w an acid house-type remix of the main song
12. Tie Your Mother Down with Teo Torriatte as a B-side (Note: They both use their single edits and cut off the instrumental that both opens and closes ADATR)
I know suggestions 2 and 4 are Freddie solo material, and suggestions 9 and 10 are Brian solo material, but the what the hell? Just get one of the twelve to #1 from late November 2011 to New Year's Day 2012 and I bet all us Queenzoners with shriek with joy and do the conga! Give your opinions on what one you would want to shoot up to the top of the charts this Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys, there are already several groups out there campaigning for a Queen No.1. If they all pick different songs, then we're less likely to get a high chart position.
The best initiative I've heard is to try and get The Show Must Go On to No.1 in the week of Freddie's death anniversary. If we all pull together and buy the same song at the same time, we can really make an impact.
This year at Christmas there were so many groups trying to get different songs to number one, it was chaos and X Factor just went straight in at number 1.

That comment might just come back and bite you on the arse lol
Then again, if Queen do hit number one then it would have meant you've won the lottery, so best of luck. As long as you give us a share....
