Don't know if anyone else was aware (apologies if I'm slow - blame my busy life!) but they've remixed and re-released the Rock Aid Armenia charity remake single "Smoke On The Water" which features our own Brian May, Roger Taylor and (in a pre-QPR formation) Paul Rodgers ;-)
The video was rearranged around the remix: link
Of all the changes and additions made to the mix (including extra Brian guitar bits never heard before!), I find the thing that's definitely been most improved on is Roger's drum sound! It's more crisp and snazzier than before!
You can get the single on iTunes, which has the tracklisting as follows:
1. Smoke on the Water (2010 Wermut & Dee Remix)
2. Smoke on the Water (1989 Original Mix)
3. Smoke on the Water (1990 Radio Mix)
4. Smoke on the Water (1989 Ian Gillan Vocal Session)
In an exclusive interview to Bravo.am Brian May stated that in 1989, he immediately agreed to participate in recording of “Smoke on the Water” song, since he knew that the project aimed at helping people, who had suffered from the earthquake in Armenia.
“Jon Dee asked me who I could involve and I said that I would make a few phone calls. Thus, Tony Iommi and Paul Rodgers joined the project. I should also say that this recording became a wonderful opportunity for joint work. For instance, we are close friends with Tony Iommi, but we do not often get the chance to play together. Another exciting moment was that the matter concerned recording Smoke on the Water song – a song that was known to all guitar players in the world. I am very proud of my participation in that project”, Brian May stated in an exclusive interview to Bravo.am.
Next week, the release of the new version of Smoke on the Water, recorded by the stars in 1989, will take place. “I am very glad that the spirit is still alive and I urge everybody to buy this song, since each cent, received from its sale, will be used for a wonderful school in Armenia”, Brian May stated.
Cheers Gary. I of course already did my part, bought it on iTunes (since no bloody CD-Single was available - but then again, it wasn't on my dime since someone bought me a couple iTunes gift cards months ago I'd been sitting on till now :-P )
What an awesome version of the song. But man, I can't believe how they managed to fit so much ego into one room. I'd hate to be the engineer who had to create a mix to please everyone..
Meanwhile a Maxi-CD is available. There's a "making of" DVD included with plenty of Brian and Roger on it (interviews, in the studio....and really funny 80s clothing, haha)). I have it and it's a really great item.

Well, fuck me! I had NO idea there even WAS a CD-Single release, never mind with a DVD included! The way they made it sound, I thought it was one of those digital download-only charity single affairs!
Shall have to order this tomorrow! Thank you :-)
i have to mention the quality of the 2010 dvd is horrible , looks like a vhs copy , complete with full noise and major dropouts. Trancer's japanese CDV transfer was a lot better 10 years ago. Quite strange because the copyright owner (i think john dee or whats his name) had all the b-reels film footage from the sessions (without sound) and nothing really was used in this 2010 dvd, contrary to what he told us around 2008-2009...
