It is not the sort of thing you might want in your living room – but this 15ft statue needs a home.
To celebrate the hit Queen musical We Will Rock You visiting the King’s Theatre in January, a massive sculpture of lead singer Freddie Mercury is being brought to the city.
The statue has been displayed on top of the foyer of London’s Dominion Theatre where the show is currently playing.
And now the theatre bosses want fans to suggest where the Freddie statue, which weighs 107 stone, should be displayed in Glasgow. A King’s Theatre spokesman said: “We would love to give giant Freddie a home at the King’s, but he’s simply too big.
“We think this statue of Freddie is so large and eye-catching that it could become a visitor attraction in its own right as he was in London for almost a decade.
“What we are asking the people of Glasgow to do is suggest a suitable location for Freddie somewhere in the city, or if anyone would like to offer Freddie a home for a few months – we think there are lots of great possible locations in the city centre.
“With the help of our friends at the Evening Times, we want to ask the people of Glasgow for suggestions as to where, in the city, you think Freddie might stand proud.”
We Will Rock You UK tour general manager Adam Speers said: “Freddie has become a fixture in London, with thousands of fans and tourists flocking to the Dominion Theatre to see the 15ft statue. We now would like to find a suitable home for Freddie in the city centre, so the people of Glasgow can see him too.”
