Guys, Just a quick comment on this new release... I STRONGLY recommend every Queen fan to give it a listen. BM&RT are very prominent on this album. IMHO this is how The Cosmos Rocks should have been. Having both BM&RT makes me feel like it's sort of a sequel. Who said that seconds parts are always worse than the original? :) The Taylor Storm Tour 2010 is getting promising! |
Pim Derks 26.04.2010 15:44 |
Way Down and Your Shoes are nice rockers, but they are nowhere near as great as tracks like Surf's Up, Through The Night or Cosmos Rockin'. I have to say though that the Brian May-chorus of Way Down send shivers down my spine. It's been too long since we heard that sound! |
brians wig 27.04.2010 03:31 |
So are "way down" & "Your shoes" the only two tracks they appear on? |
Stick 27.04.2010 10:31 |
Brian also appears on "Don't have to speak". Personally I LOVE the album. Your Shoes, Way Down, It's Over, Never Enough, Sunshine, Don't Have To Speak etc. Love them all. |
argQ 27.04.2010 17:46 |
It's a good album. Not as great as many people think, but I enjoyed it. I think great albums are "The dark side of the moon", "White album", "Queen II" and many others. Red Light Fever is ok, Taylor Hawnkins shows his power and his songwriter skills. By the way, I like "The Cosmos Rocks". I know one day it will have the recognition that deserves. Sorry for my English. |
masterstroke_84 28.04.2010 07:25 |
I dont understand why you see it like a "continuation" of TCR... Is a taylor h. solo album with a few (3) collaborations from Brian and Roger... and each one in different songs... not togheter. I didn't like "your shoes"... first of all because it sounds like dozens of FF songs, and second and more important... wow! the contribuition of Roger to that track is... "and you know!" 3 times... and it's over... didn't like it. Don't have to speak is great. |

Don't have to speak is great. ------- Well, yes, Roger's contribution on "Your Shoes" isn't something breathtaking, but anyway I feel high everytime I hear his "and you know!" chorus. It's a rocker tune as many others from the Foos, but I think it's great. As for "Don't Have To Speak" ... fantastic song and fantastic guitar from Bri ! |
GratefulFan 03.05.2010 17:17 |
I ordered Red Light Fever the other day. It better be good, or else I'll never, ever buy it again. It won't kill me either way because I don't currently have any Foos anyway. My hope is that somehow Amazon.world will detect that I'm really buying it for the BM and RT contributions and pass this information along, which will in turn somehow cause Kerry Ellis to suddenly hate singing and take up geology instead. It could happen, because as you know, she is a rock chick. And then who knows what could happen from there. |
Erin 04.05.2010 10:09 |
Nothin' wrong with it sounding like the Foos.. I loves me some Foo! :-) |
PrincessofTaylor 04.05.2010 11:25 |
I think you'll like it - you can definitely hear the Queen/Foos/I'd say even Nirvana influence. Some of the tracks are better than others (obviously), but I can't really point to any complete duds on the album, which is saying something. I caught them in concert on Sunday night and was really impressed. Taylor Hawkins drummed/sang the entire time and despite being in a relatively small/unsophisticated venue, they managed to recreate most of the songs to the album's quality. I'm considering buying the debut album now because I liked the songs from it that they played. And I laughed out loud at your remark re: Amazon. I think I've only purchased Queen/Roger Taylor stuff from them so maybe they'll make the connection for me too! :) |
PieterMC 10.05.2010 09:00 |
There is nothing on that album that sounds anything remotely like Nirvana. |

ah ! btw .... anyone read Brian's new entry on his soapbox ? link " ... It was a great fun night. [Tue 11 May 2010] Roger and I had a blast. La Scala pulsed to something amazing .. the great new Taylor Hawkins band - the COAT TAIL RIDERS, and some pals who dropped in to lend a hand. It was all very spontaneous, like the Old Days, really, and .... yes, it was NOT my idea for me to sing two songs in the encore section! I'd rather have hammered out TYMD with Taylor singing. But Taylor is committed to his idea of .... ah, well, I can't tell you yet ... but he has a plan for us! Respects to the amazing young Rufus Taylor too ... he's the only drummer who has EVER made me worry about my ears ... except Chad Smith!!!!! Thanks for a great reception. Maybe we should do this kind of thing more often ! (maybe not! ha ha.)" Queen+Taylor Hawkins ????? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!!!! |

tcc wrote: What are you saying - please yes or please no ? :-) ********* you don't need to read between the lines ! my excitement says it all: PLEASE YES !!! ;) Taylor Hawkins is not only a great musician, he really loves Queen and it's obvious he'd love Brian and Roger to keep doing good stuff. My respects to Paul Rodgers, but TH could help much better Bri+Rog going one step forward, at least in terms of creativity .... and pleasing many Queen fans too. I remember reading an interview with Roger before TCR tour saying Taylor Hawkins suggested them doing some of the older stuff .... the same they did last night in London. Maybe our guys (mainly Brian) have opened their eyes a little bit .... there's still hope !! :D |

Maybe our guys (mainly Brian) have opened their eyes a little bit .... there's still hope !! :D I remember this too - and Brian also confirmed around that time that Taylor Hawkins was really tring to push them to do some more of the 'classic' older album tracks as well as the 'hits'. It seems that something may be afoot if TH can put enoguh pressure on Brian (I don't think RT needs much persuading). However Brian sums up his true feelings by saying on his soapbox that he would have been happy to just play Tie Your Mohter Down with Hawkins on vocals - safe and boring as usual. Amazing that they did these tracks for a 'non Queen' crowd too, and presumably went down really well. Fingers crossed and breathe held for the next instalment!!! |
gordonl 12.05.2010 10:15 |
Yep, I went and it was brilliant (Taylor is really great too), the Queen bits were great, fab to hear the old stuff rather than the usuals. Any questions, happy to answer - but there were loads of people filming on phones etc so should be on youtube etc soon; sound was a bit naff in some parts of the scala (boomy), so it would need to be from guys near the front to be clear. |

I could only make it into London for one night due to work commitments. so here was my dilema, do I do the 10th May at the Dominion or do I do the Taylor Hawkins gig the next night on the 11th. I foolishly opted for the first. Here was my thinking, If I do the We Will Rock You Aniversary performance, you'll Definatly get "Bo Rhap" & Maybe "The Show Must Go On" + the cast singing queen songs. If I did the Coattail Riders gig the next night, you'll most likely get Brian & Roger guesting on say one song. How bloody wrong I was, we got, Brian & Roger playing along to the last part of "Bo Rhap" Only!!!!!!! & everyone else the next night got the guys Singing & Playing on several Queen tracks. in the words of one Homer Simpson, Dohhh!!!!! Live & Learn, Live & Learn. |

That really sucks! I don't think anyone could have possibly anticipated the magnitude of Roger/Brian's involvement in the Taylor Hawkins' show (even Brian himself - did you see his soapbox today? Taylor is clearly a pretty persuasive guy!) I expected that they'd both show up but never in my wildest dreams did I expect what that audience got (which makes it all the more upsetting that I live in the U.S.!) At least you made it to one of the shows! Look at it that way! |

I can't believe this. I saw Queen & Paul Rodgers 12 times all over Europe and it cost me a fortune and I never saw stuffl ike Long Away and Tenement Funster. Little did I know that the only thing I had to do was go to London and sit through 2 hours of horrible Taylor Hawkins music so I could hear Brian and Roger sing and play Long Away, Sleeping on the Sidewalk and Tenement Funster to a crowd that isn't made up of Queenfans and would rather hear them play Tie your Mother Down and We Will Rock You. I'd travel an awful lot to see Brian and Roger performing Tenement Funster, Long Away, Sleeping On The Sidewalk, Sail Away Sweet Sister, '39 plus other tracks. Heck, I drove 2500 kilometers in 2,5 days to see them perform a show I'd already seen 6 times so.... :D |

Taylor Hawkin's music isn't horrible, Niek! ;-P I totally get your point, though. Here's the thing though: I think this type of show is exactly what Brian/Roger might need to convince themselves to do something similar on a widescale basis. They went out with PR and did their thing playing the "hits" to big stadiums. Perhaps they have an idea that this is all people think they are good for anymore. And yet here they are guesting at a random little show to an audience of not-necessarily Queen fans playing totally obscure tracks and people loved it! They are both great performers - I think everyone agrees on that - they could go on stage and play anything and the crowd would eat it up. I just think it will be real interesting to see what, if anything, this turns into. Taylor Hawkins obviously has big plans in mind! |
Wiley 13.05.2010 15:19 |
I know I'm not the first one to point out the irony and "WTF" factor in them: a) performing such obscure tracks before a non-fan audience, and b) sticking to the hits in a fan-based audience, but... What The Fuck?! O_O Hopefully, Taylor Hawkins can convince them to do something on a bigger scale. Looking forward to it :). |

How cool is it that they played ONE song from Sheer Heart Attack, ONE from ANATO, ONE from ADATR and ONE from News of the World? And none were widely known singles! How much do you think they must have rehearsed for that performance? Now have Brian tell us why they couldn't have done this for the QPR tour. Rehearse 4-6 fan favorite album tracks for the whole tour, play 2 or 3 each night. Alternate them. It's THAT easy, you know! |
PieterMC 17.05.2010 20:14 |
It does irk me that he is willing to go perform all these rarer tracks to a crowd who were not even there to see him. You would think that they would want to actually reward their fans with some rarer tracks. Oh well. |
PrincessofTaylor 17.05.2010 20:40 |
You're kidding yourself to suggest that the fans at the Scala weren't there to see Brian/Roger. Taylor Hawkins was barely scraping together audiences of 100+ in the States for his gigs just days prior to the Scala show. What do you think that they became an international phenomenon overnight? That show sold out because Queen fans suspected that Roger and Brian were going to show up so they bought up the tickets. It was absolutely an audience of Queen fans - they just didn't happen to be at a Queen concert. |
GratefulFan 17.05.2010 21:21 |
Absolutely. This is them a week before at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. The guys not busy singing and drumming have that "I'm playing for 15 people" vibe in a big way. And the 'crowd' at the end sounds pretty thin. The Shoe has a capacity of about 350 and I'd be surprised if it was a quarter of that. Audio is in and out, but the video is pretty good. For the sake of mankind, somebody must get working on isolating the gene responsibe for Taylor Hawkins' big perfect teeth. |

It doesn't surprise me that Taylor could fill a club in London that holds 1000 people given the Foos can fill Wembley two nights in a row. I highly doubt the majority of the people who attended were there on the off chance Brian and Roger would turn up. |
GratefulFan 18.05.2010 17:09 |
It didn't even occur to me that the Foos might be way more popular overseas. How embarassing that I should be so America-centic. In the end, no matter why anybody was there it's clear a club tour is at least in part a labour of love. Those guys just did not look that happy at that Toronoto gig. Maybe it was the person taking video up in their face, maybe it was the small crowd. It was on a Monday too, which must be the worst possible day of the week for a show. Either way, it didn't look like it was worth the border hassle. |
PrincessofTaylor 18.05.2010 17:31 |
I feel like the Foos are pretty popular in America. i mean I know who they are and I know nothing about music post-1995! Maybe not though - the saddest thing was seeing someone had hand written "of Foo Fighters" next to Taylor Hawkins name at the venue in Boston and it still didn't sell out (not even close!) It could be that people are only interested in Dave Grohl (because honestly aside from Taylor Hawkins, I couldn't name anyone else currently in the band). Then again, look at the last question in this article (link. It doesn't look like Taylor was expecting the tour to be a big deal anywhere. Based on the absolute frenzy both here and on QOL the day the show as announced, I'm sticking to my belief that there was at least a fair number of Queen fans in the audience. |
Makka 18.05.2010 21:49 |
I don't mind the album actually. There's some good songs on there. It's funny that the song Your Shoes (I know it features Roger) reminds me a great deal of It's An Illusion from Roger's Strange Frontier Album. |
