Hey Follow Queenies I must admit i was never the biggest fan of Jim Hutton always thinking i nthe back of my mind that he gave Freddie the HIV/AIDS but that was just being a stupid bitch When i heard the news about his death the other day on Facebook on The Australian Queen Tribute Show I was so so upset I was only 7 when Freddie pasted away and i can still remember hearing the news, More then likely you dont believe me from saying something like that but i honestly do, It just feels like hearing the news about Freddie passing away, even thou i didnt know who he was, I just heard something about Queen and it was about him its a horrible way of only being able too remember something like that but everyone has they're own way and some of us cant even remember cause we were far far far too young or not even born at that stage of life. The only good out come out off all of this is that the 2 are finally back together again how they should be, RIP JIM [/img] |

While I never knew Jim personally, he always struck me as a softhearted Irishman who loved Freddie for being Freddie (not for being the lead singer of one of the world's biggest bands). That says a lot about him. I know from reading his biography that he was bitterly upset that Freddie's estate went largely to Mary Austin and as she was the one managing Freddie's affairs that is a very understandable emotion. I saw Jim at the Queen at the Ballet show in Dublin in the Point Theatre a few years ago and he had aged considerably but he came across as very unassuming and unless you knew who he was he did not stand out from the rest of the concert goers in any way. He and Freddie may have been fans of the gay nightclub Heaven but hopefully they are partying hard in the real Heaven today. My sincere condolences to his family in Carlow at this sad time. |

Im long time listener of queen songs and was found that freddie was a gay in time of Soviet system was collapsed in my country, but think that flamboyance of their music was totally up to freddie(may be other band memebers supported his orientaion but not in open way I htink) I may be raise the agitation among gay members of queen fans so my opinion that he will be ten times popular being heterosexual but this is not matter of this issue regarding Jim ,he was partner long time? think freddie was monogamic gay? dont think so ,I m wonder how can it be that man so talanted died after 5-6 years of battling AIDS with enough fortune to stand long fight and Hutton lived for 20 years and died of lung cancer? thats means that god has its own judgement for us how long we can live, but again so sorry for mercury as for me not a gay person he will gifted us with hundreds more awesome smashing songs, but blaim who -Jim? thousend of his lovers,no it was hes lifestyle and thats all |

RIP, Jim, who never really got the respect he truly deserved...I bet Freddie was waiting to greet him with open arms. And to correct an earlier poster, Jim actually got HIV/Aids from Freddie. |

mike hunt wrote: I wonder what marry austin thinks right about now?........[/img] The fact that Jim is dead probably has had little impact on her, aside from the thought that karma is treating her well. She was Freddie's only true friend, as indicated by the fact that she didn't feel the need to cash in on a dead man's private life by writing a tell-all book. I'm sure she's well aware of her good fortune. |

Mary was a a beautiful woman. Stunning, still looks good now. |

I would've done Mary in the 70's. Before Freddy ofcourse, don't want to get the gayaids! |

I hate these ignorant remarks people make, what gayaids are you talking about?...didn't you're mother ever teach you respect?....instead of talking smack on the internet? |

She was Freddie's only true friend, as indicated by the fact that she didn't feel the need to cash in on a dead man's private life by writing a tell-all book. I'm sure she's well aware of her good fortune. Both the Freestone and the Hutton books served Freddie very well. Without them, the general biographers and the tabloid press would have presided over a public record much less flattering, and much more superficial and sensationalized when the reality was a kind, funny, generous, dedicated and complex person. The books were 5% detail that might be considered salacious (drug use, sex, Freddie's death) and 95% devotion to a friend, employer and in Jim's case romantic partner. You can't know that the motive was to 'cash in' - particularly given that Hutton has given alternate and credible reasons for the book - and you certainly can't elevate Mary's moral authority because she didn't 'cash in' given that she was left a personal fortune in perpetuity. I do understand the feeling that NOT writing a book is more consistent with friendship and loyalty and with Freddie's own reticence about his private life, and there's truth in that, but I think it ignores the actual nature of these books and most importantly what would have otherwise filled the vacuum. |
plumrach 08.01.2010 13:24 |
Re jim's book i dont think it was right of him to complain about mary in his book, if Freddie really did want Jim to stay in the house he would of got something done legally but he didnt and myself in Mary's shoes would of done the same thing Mary was probably the only person that never judged him on his private life and she deserved the get the house and most of his estate for her loyalty and the love and respect she clearly had for him |

Fair. I will definitely give you that. But if Freddie were still alive, would the books have been published? That's why I think it's pretty clear that these books were cash-ins at least to some extent, since Freestone was out of a high-paying job, and Jim didn't get much from the will. Freddie was a very private person, and I highly doubt he would have told his friends to make the public aware of all the things he kept from them during his life. However positive or negative these things ultimately were, the public were not entitled to them. By doing this, these people who claimed to be Freddie's good friends absolutely stabbed him in the back. |

Just read his book... bit better than freestone's, not bad read... but not great either. The ending is definitely sadder than Phoebe's. Strange they differ on the finer points of what happened as he passed away? Best bit was Live Aid description backstage. Seems to have written it to me for cash purposes AND ironically to prove that HE was Freddie's "husband", even though he frequently said in the book he didn't care that Freddie was a famous singer, it didn't impress him. I actually felt that he was quite sad in that he clearly catches Freddie cheating on him more than once, but still goes back to him. Also he claims he wants to pay his way, but took thousands of him in gifts and "loans". I challenge that he wasn't actually "married" to him... the fact that he got the same as Joe and Phoebe possibly shows that he wasn't as big a part in his love life as he made out. Surely his civil partner would get considerably more than those two? Mary's writing a book wouldn't be cashing in I don't think... if it was written and structured properly. i think it could be a great read and the closest you'd get to the real Freddie. Doubt she'll ever do it though. |

Have only just heard the news. Wish i'd read the newsletter earlier on (a bit behind on my e-mails). Sad to hear of Jim's passing. He was the one true lover Freddie ever had and was with him to his untimely demise. I've read the book with Jim telling how Freddie's last days were and they will always stay in my mind. Now that he has gone from our world he'll now be back with Freddie, sharing a laugh and having a good time like they were never apart. RIP Jim x |
