The Jazz album is my fave Queen album of all time - it is just what Queen liked doing, loads of experimentation. I also love the detail of the interior gatefold - they clearly did not employ any cleaning staff at Montreux - what a mess!
One thing that bugs me though, is the mystery Drum kit to the right of the picture - it is just so well designed and I actually used to like to set my last kit up in much the same way. Does anyone know anything about this kit - I have a feeling that the drums to the left are Syndrums (used on Fun It and later took out on tour).
Also, has anyone got a nice big version of this gatefold piccy they can send me - I have my own drumming site where I like to wax lyrical about drums?

Hi, Graham1970!
How are you? Welcome to Queenzone!
I hope you have a great time here.
I'm sure many people will be able to answer your question. There are many knowledgeable kind users here!
May I ask you a question?
But, since you're there, and having visited your website and being really happy to know that we have one more Rush fan on the website :op, I'd like to have your opinion on Roger's drumming.
What do you think about Roger as a drummer in general? If you had to talk briefly about both his qualities and handicaps, what would you say?
I like to have this kind of feedback from people who play the instrument for so long. Ah, and I absolutely agree with you on Neil Peart's skills - he's tremendous.
Well, I hope many people jump in to help you with that. Me, I just have this question, as of now, and I'd love if you shared your view about it.
The round pads are indeed the first Syndrums that came out, the were only really useful for making disco type sounds, however with some studio processing it was possible to get the Fun It sound (however not with the drums alone)
The rst of the kit is a combination of old Ludwig kits, and I think a Gretsch or Slingerland (Sorry can't remember which) bass drum (note the smaller bass on the left) this was is from the kit used in the WWRY promo, he also has three floor toms which often made me wonder if that was the kit he used to do the roll on Fat Bottomed Girls which seems to go on forever
Since I am being asked about Roger's drumming, I must say that he is the first drummer that I completely idolised when I was but young.
In many ways, he is the perfect drummer; he is neither too busy nor too laid back, doing just what the track demanded - perhaps this is due to the fact that he was also a drummer (he could play other instruments). His nice simple kit (in an age of excess) and casual attitude to product endorsements (PAISTE 602's alongside other brands) makes him just the right kind of guy to have in your band - this allowed him to do other stuff like songwriting.
Great Busy Roger Taylor:
Dead on Time - Jazz (awesome)
Fat Bottomed Girls - Jazz (great fills)
We Will Rock You (Fast) - Live Killers
Tie Your Mother Down - ADATR - my mate has asked to learn this one - you forget how great these tracks are
Great Laid Back Roger Taylor:
Save Me - The Game
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - The Game
She Makes Me - Sheer Heart Attack
All in all, a top drummer and one of the best this country has ever turned out.
Thanks for the insights about that kit - I never noticed that there was 3 floor toms before - but then I only have a small pic of that sight.

.... oh and has anyone got a big pic of that Jazz gatefold - please send it to me
Hi, Graham1970!
How are you?
Thanks a whole lot for the through reply. I'm grateful and happy. It's great to know your view on this, and I agree on his soundness of his playing in the songs you mentioned!
I'm only sad that no one was able to help you with the pic. Well, let's hope some kind soul has it and manages to get some time to upload it here.
Yes I have been a massive Roger Taylor fan for years, he started me drumming
And in fact I now have the same Ludwig Silver Sparkle kit
Slightly updated from the 80's version as it has new Ludwig hardware and a DW 9000 pedal
Sizes pretty much the same as Rogers circa 1980 plus rotatoms
Cymbals all Zils though, same as his current set-up, with the addition of a couple of splashes
I also have a number of Snares, 6 1/2 8" maple and a 402 metal
So much money....
Anyway, what am I doing to do, can't take it with you, might as well spend it!
