link so to sum up; no bonus material. AND NO BLU-RAY. I was prepared for the former, but to film a gig in HD and not release it in HD now that the new format i starting to take over??? WTF???? |

No HD or Blu Ray release? This is Queen we're talking about - it'll come out once in normal DVD to make everyone buy it, then it'll come out a few months later in Blu Ray som that those with the capibility to watch it in that format will have to buy it again! |

The Singles Collection and now this new abobination .... I agree with you. It's painful. By the time they reached Buenos Aires they were ON FIRE. That would be a much better release since the performance is way better. I know we always say Brian is a perfectionist but here a few questions: why does this perfectionist prefer to release Wembley '86 and not Budapest '86(ok, in the end we'll have both, I know)? Why hasn't this perfectionist thought about setting things right and release Hammy'79 which is in my view way better than Live Killers? Why does this perfectionist defend crappy releases like the Singles box? Let's face it: we had a couple of pretty good dvd's(Milton Keynes being the most interesting) but nothing exceptional. Nothing that shows the world how great Queen could be on stage in their time. The die-hard fan is the loser in the Queen camp. They manage to fuck up everything that could be great! For example: the 100 best bootlegs. I would have loved something like the 10 best audience recordings that have not been outside the circle of 'elite collectors'. They must have stuff like that. But no, fool the fans and put some utter rubbish up on their site. |

So we get a DVD of a show with a "Magic Nostalgia" intro, only half of TYMD and WATC (for some reason, they skipped the second verse in Kharkov), and a setlist that's strangely reminiscent of, you know, the 2005 tour. *Sigh* The official Queen Youtube channel has plenty of South America tour videos posted--why can't we get a show from the South American leg instead? The performances were better, the audiences were FAR better (the audience in Kharkov didn't even sing the last line of Bo Rhap, prompting a laugh from Paul), and the setlist was more interesting. Why release Kharkov when you've got great material from those shows in South America that will now, presumably, gather dust in the archives forever? |

It will probably be released on Blu-Ray (with extras) in a few years so that everyone can buy it twice, and the box sets can be delayed again. Queen motto - Recycle ... recycle and recycle again. By the way, I have no interest in QPR live, so I will not buy it. However, I perfectly happy complaining about Queen's horrendous disregard for their most loyal customers, releasing only recycled shit while they delay the box sets and refuse to release any concerts from the 70's. |

On a serious note: overdubbing stuff in the studio is STANDARD procedure in the music industrie. Official live albums without them are a rarity. And that is why no-one should buy official live albums. What I love about ROIOs is that audience recordings represent an honest acount of concerts. What happened the night a live album was recorded should be on the album and nothing else. The point of live albums is to show a spontaneous performance that happened at one go (otherwise it doesn't live up to the title LIVE album)... studio trickery is for studio albums. A live album should be a historical document of a concert and altering that is pure cheating and fraud. Jjeroen wrote: No-body except for some puritan fanboys want to hear a record on which te artist fucks up. What exactly is a fuck-up? I have some recordings of R.E.M. where the band screw up a song so badly that they stop playing altogether and start apologizing: "Sorry... we fucked up... let's try again/another song" - and I don't mind that. I seem to remember roger screwed up days of our lives in sheddield 05 and the audio in question was taken from another gig?) Brian states on his website that the reason there is no Blu-Ray is because the format hasn't taken off as well as expetced. What planet does Brian live on? Blu-Ray has taken off faster than any other format has, and sales in the US alone totalled 9 million units this quarter - that's double what it was last year. I gather UK sales are a similar ratio! Let's face it. They're doing the "lets make them buy the DVD (the only way to get the CD), and then we'll release the Blu-Ray later so they can all buy it again." routine. I know it's cynical,, but that's how I see Queen Productions these days, what with all the re-releases they're doing. Vinyl albums indeed. Get them remastered into 5.1 and give us something different! |

Indeed - my thoughts too Even the major supermarkets (along with specialist retailers like HMV etc..) have dedicated Blu Ray sections for all the latest releases. If I recall, Queen were one of the first artists released on CD (I remember GHI being the only CD I possessed for ages!), when hardly anyone had a CD player - far more people have Blu Ray now than had CDs when Queen first started getting released in that format. What was the point of recording it in HD otherwise, other than for the benefit of the couple of dozen people who went to see it at the cinema?!!? |
PieterMC 19.04.2009 20:10 |
Queen were also one of the first artists to release something on VCD, and Blu-Ray is WAY bigger than that ever was. |
