Just wondering, why would the people of the U.S. want to get rid of daylight savings time? I saw a yes/no poll on the Weather Channel website and for some reason it struck some terror in me, ha ha.
I don't see a problem with DST. It provides more hours of evening light so that businesses and households use less electricity for lighting. It saves money. Plus, it's still light out after work in the evening.
It really ought to be ditched; here in West Australia at least.
I don't know how it's implemented in other parts of the world, but over here they do it over the summer. They do it at a time when the sun is *already* up well into the evening. It also gets forced down our throats in a series of 'trials' that keep getting foisted on us by the government, despite a series of referendums that have all said 'No' so far.
It's inconvenient, true enough, but not really a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. My main objection is the manner in which it keeps getting forced on us simply because big business wants it. It's an unfortunate reminder of just how far that these people have their hands up the government's arsehole....
Daylight Savings is no big deal, but just wait until they force something else on us that the majority do not want?
Any road, I don't see why ordinary citizens should be beholden to the wishes of a bunch of button pushing office workers. If they want it to be easier to make long distance calls, they can freaking well work an hour late. Conducting business interstate ceased to be a reasonable excuse for Daylight Savings a long, long time ago. We have computers now. Fuck Daylight Savings.
