Hello everybody! I just wanted to ask if anybody knows something more "official" about the rumors of Queen appearing at the San Remo Festival this year... San Remo Festival is an Italian Song Festival held in February, from 17th to 21st this year... some rumors said Queen would appear on Tuesday 17 but nothing has been confirmed as official, isn't it? So I was wondering if anyone could tell me something... |

It generally just lowers the whole tone of QZ and starts to be tedious for regular QZ members after a while. |

I very much doubt they will appear..... I have it on very good authority that Brian is on a well deserved holiday at the moment. |
Raffy 10.02.2009 14:20 |
It's confirmed that they will not appear ... sorry [/img] ... Because of Brian & Roger involvments with the casting of the musical We Will Rock you in this period and the absence of Mr. Paul Rodgers (now he is in his house in Canada to rest after the tour). |
The Man On The Prowl 10.02.2009 14:47 |
I see... TOO BAD [/img] I would have liked to see them live here in Italy... But I have to admit they all deserved a holiday... |

According to Brian May they will not be there. I have also heard there will be NO Us tour either. |

YET, mr. Paolo Bonolis, the presenter of this edition of the Sanremo's festival, being himself a huge Queen fan, involved KATY PERRY, special guest of tonight's first night of the show in singing Don't stop me now with the whole orchestra (60+ elements). I was there in the theatre....and they rocked. Oh yes they did! Check it out on youtube! Moreover, they used a snippet from "it's a beautiful day", to introduce the gorgeous lady co-presenting the opening night. :) so...someway...Queen were there!! |

here's the rare video of Katy Perry improvising "Don't stop me now" during the first night of Sanremo's festival 2009. She was having temperature though you wouldn't notice much ;) Funny in the end she shows a black and blue underwear that matches the color of Inter Milan soccer team, the presenter's favorite team. enjoy! |

You know, I said this was bullshit when the "rumour" was first posted. So, I appreciate the Queen II comment. Queen is also rumoured to be playing The Hyannis MA Lobster Convention, but I've still got my doubts. |

Don't know what all the fuss about San Remo is all about!! Last time they appeared on this so-called festival it was clear that Queen were miming and Freddie looked terrible in his leotard. He was clearly overweight. 1984 if I remember!! On a positive note though I remeber The Cross appearing and were only 1 of 2 acts to play totally live! Good for promotional purposes but as a live spectacle - total shit!!! |

What the HELL were they thinking using those slutty-looking women (no offense) as back-up singers for starters?? They couldn't sing for shit from what I remember watching that a long while ago, nor dance particularly good (Seems a lot of bands used backups like that in the 80's...) |

I've got a copy of the original San Remo performance if you can call it that with Freddie from the mid 80s. I can still remember the disappointment of realising that my heros were miming - I just couldn't take this in at the time. Why Freddie and the band would actually mime for any reason in the first place was beyond me. In my personal book of seeing Queen perform this was the lowest of the low for me. I can never appreciate why any artist should ever really have the need to mime. If the gig says its for turn around and unavailability for a sound check etc then the simple answer is no way - we dont perform. It should be 100% or nothing. Simple turning up to do a PR stunt just lacks credability and comes back to haunt you in the loing run. |

And how did this this come back to haunt Queen in their loins? |
Hitman 13.04.2009 16:27 |
ACTUALLY, if in the 80s guests used to mime the performances, nowadays there's a huge live orchestra and all the guests perform live. The only exception was David Bowie some years ago....not so recently though, since he was promoting "Little wonder" and he mimed it. |

I can appreciate the comment but I still find artists miming a big let down. It's basically faking it and no one appreciates someone faking it and when someone realises it, it just becomes embarrassing. That and Freddie was never any good at faking it. Love the second comment - sometimes I can't type for toffee. On making a typing error once I wanted to say to someone that it was like trying to type with boxing gloves on getting text correct but I said it was like trying to box with typing gloves on [/img] |

Shock, horror!! Miming on music shows was quite common place back then, and I thought it was accepted that when Freddie had to mime a performance on a show like that he made it perfectly obvious in his usual fashion that he was miming. San Remo is a classic example of that. At one point he holds the mic as far away from him as he could whilst "singing"! It's still hilarious to see. It's a perfect illustration of something lacking in "Queen" since his demise, a sense of humour. Nowadays they have to enlist someone like Ben Elton to come up with the amusing stuff. |
