we dont get much news down here in Cornwall but when we do it tends to make a lot of noise nationally.
whats happened here is this, the local fishermen in Helford want a little jetty built to make it easier to bring their 'catch' to shore BUT 2nd home owners living in London and elsewhere dont want it built as it would "spoil their view" [even though they dont LIVE in the village] and have filed some sort of lawsuit, even though the local council have already agreed the planning.
Roger [being a proper local] has just got wind of this after coming home from the South America tour and is being diplomatic in what he thinks,Cornish style :]
"proper job,Roger" as we Cornish say,i buy you a beer the next time you be in the Harbour Inn or The Sandbar.
shame he does'nt live here in Porthleven or we'd get our harbour walls rebuilt tomorrow!
i saw this story on the news the other day.let the guys build the jetty and make a living.if the incomers dont like it.piss off and buy a house in france.easy.
The problem with you rural folks is, though, if we city slickers let you build this jetty, next thing is you'll be building wicker men, idols to your pagan gods, and bonfires for witches, and err... Susan George. Best to keep a lid on your seaside shenanigans.
