I'm asking about the Adidas shoes that Freddie, Brian and Roger wore in 1986 - The magic tour. I've read some threads in this forum saying the name of those shoes was "Boxing shoes". I also read on wiki and it went "Freddie Mercury wore a pair of white Sambas during Queen's performance at Wembley stadium in 1986." I don't know why, but I started to love the model (White body with three black stripes). Then I bought Adidas, Adidas and Adidas, (not the Nike's or the Puma's!) As a matter of fact I never saw anything exactly the same as Queen's these days - only close to. Every time I saw someone who wore that model, I looked fixedly at their shoes to see if they were the same as Queen's... Questions are: 1. Why Queen wore them? 2. Did John hate them? 3. Do you have ones? 4. Pictures? My old Adidas link link And this is my new ones. link |

Ah yes, the same feeling I have with most sneakers Freddie has worn on stage. For example : the onitsuka tiger wrestling shoes from '78 are fantastic as well. Bought a vintage unworn deadstock pair on eBay about a year ago. Lovely shoes.. Quit rare in this condition too. Never liked the ones Roger and Brian had (standard nike / puma shoes) The first pair of shoes I totally adored when I was about ten years old are those very same adidas shoes indeed. About the Adidas shoes. Contary to what many people believe the shoes are not boxing shoes but WRESTLING shoes. They have a very thin sole (perfect for Freddie after his ballet shoe period) and are very flexible. The exact model is called ADIDAS HERCULES. Almost impossible to find these days in vintage dead stock quality. Here's a picture link Good luck with your search! |

Perfect cool looking stage shoe wich can be combined with almost all colors of clothing. Almost perfect (but not as perfect as the Asics 78 wrestling shoes) 2 I don't know. 3 I wish. Very rare and almost impossible to find in vintage unworn deadstock quality in my size (standard 11,5) 4 link link |

DAMN... just did a quick eBay search... the guy who put the flickr photos (no it's not me..) online is selling a vintage deadstock unworn pair Adidas Hercules size 9,5. Price is reasonable if you ask me... pity it's not my size. link |

John was wearing adidas, so it's reasonable to conclude that he preferred a "regular trainer" feel and just chose something else from their range (there was obviously a deal done with adidas) |

I don't really care what shows they waore, to tell the truth. And I would rather avoid buying anything from brands like Adidas (and if I did, I would probably cover the brand). They have a poor human rights record. Plus, they make shoes of kangooro's skin. |

I've always assumed Freddie wore authentic "boxing shoes" because he used to box when he was a young lad attending St. Peters school. He was quite good at it, as well as other sports. He probably liked how they were lightweight and comfortable. All I know is he looked damn good in them. |

I never thought this bit of trivia would be of any use but, I know an ex international squash world champion who met Queen back in the day because of a sports footwear sponsorship deal! |

Ducksoup you know your trainers! I presume at the time Queen must have been in some kind of sponsorship deal with adidas - and would have had the choice of the entire adidas catalogue. Freddie, Brian and Roger obviously went for the rarer look and John felt a more sensible shoe would help his on stage 'bouncy dancing'! I have no doubts about the rarity of the these trainers you mention but I bet if Brian or Roger wanted a new pair then adidas wouldn't have any problem in accommodating them..........It's not what you know........but who you know! Bloody Rockstars! |

I noticed the other day that Freddie appears to be wearing Nike at Milton Keynes. I might be mistaken but it sure looked so. Maybe he was "shopping around" to see which was more comfortable. |
Bad Seed 07.01.2009 11:56 |
Here's my black ones size 11.5 (uk). Used to belong to my dad. These are exactly the same as Freddies, have the white ones too but in the loft. |

Not a model I really like. |

To own a pair in deadstock (unworn) quality in 2009 is quite rare. |

The closest shoes to the one's worn by Queen during their 1986 tour i've found are the Adidas Country 73They are a pretty close match..They have the furry cream leather front and rear support, and the 3 Adidas strips more or less go right down to the sole. Here is a photo... I mean come on, who would by Wrestling shoes, and wear them daily! Nightmare to get on and off! |

If you look at the cover to the case of the Wembley DVD, Freddie's pant-leg is hiked up far enough that you can see that the shoes Freddie had on are not as high-topped as those boxing shoes. My son was a wrestler and when I noticed Freddie's shoes I thought they looked a lot like wrestling shoes - very supple. |

Watch this, now this guy downgrade the price of that boot http://cgi.ebay.com/Queen-Freddie-Mercury-Custom-Shoes-Wembley-1986-Boots_W0QQitemZ280400790750QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item41493084de&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 maybe he couldn't sell it or maybe has more than one pair, I hope so, beacuse I'm size UK 12 [/img] and I really want them |

I bought a pair of Adidas white wrestling shoes a couple of days here in Santiago, Chile exactly because they remind me of the shoes Freddie used to wear onstage, they are really comfy. Pictures here: link |

I've always found Adidas Gazelles on men oddly appealing. My friends would be all "Hey, nice car!" or whatever, and I'd be "Hey, blue Gazelles!". |
Shane Jazz 04.07.2010 00:22 |
I only wear black, blue and green (separate) Adidas Gazelles. I have worn only Adidas for 12 years as a personal tribute to Freddie. But I never felt comfortable in white sneakers, which I always found made me feel clumsy. But darker colored ones make me feel both comfortable and graceful. (as graceful as a lefty like myself can be!) Plus, Freddie had a very bare bones solo demo called Gazelle, with lyrics such as "Gazelle- you got me runnin' fast", so to wear dark colored Gazelles seemed like a fitting tribute to my all time hero. |
GratefulFan 04.07.2010 00:51 |
Yeah, they're a truly great classic shoe. It's been my experience that people who wear Gazelles tend to only wear Gazelles as a running shoe, so I think I associate them with a kind of loyalty thing too. Graceful is a good word. They are graceful, but all man at the same time. It's a good look, I think. And the Freddie connection is a quiet little bonus. |

I have some shoes like that XD |

Freddie wore his Adidas shoes in 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' |
mooghead 07.07.2010 16:34 |
Is this what its come to? Talking about which fucking shoes they wore? |
GratefulFan 07.07.2010 18:38 |
I don't think we've gotten to their fucking shoes yet. Have we? I'd guess Fred in red stilettos, Brian in something itchy and punitive, Roger in John's shoes with the feet mixed up, and John in slippers. But I don't know for sure. |
mooghead 10.07.2010 10:11 |

I’m sure peter freestone mentions in his book which Adidas boots they wore, and that he had to buy them in America as no where else sold them. And I’m sure he says they’re boxing boots as well. |
