Hi all, with the closure of woolworths here in the UK it got me thinking about past memories, of how when I was a kid I used to go & buy all my 7" singles from woolworths. including all my queen 7". I even managed to get both Picture covers of "Hammer To Fall" Good old woollies :) Now on the day of release of Under Pressure, off I went to woolies & bought the single in picture cover. a couple of weeks later I was in woolies again & noticed that they had the single again (a later batch I presume) with a slightly different picture cover. So I bought it again. Now this is where my memory starts to fade, (I put it down to age, as now that I am in my forties) Can anyone be able to tell me which cover was the first release? |

Hi Darren, no it is Under Pressure, the difference is only slight, it's just a matter of the white lettering on black background saying "Under Pressure" directly under "Queen & David Bowie" & the other version not being. Here's a quick photo I have just taken on my phone of both versions:- http://rapidshare.com/files/178770402/Under_Pressure.jpg.html Everything else with the singles are identicle, including the back cover with Lyrics & Cat # EMI 5250 & the records inside are a perfect match. As I have said, it's just the front Covers. Can anyone remember, which version was the first? |

Hi Walter, Unfortunatly back in the old days, there wasn't any "Bar Codes" printed on the sleeves. I have just PM John S Stuart to see if he knows. What I should have done waaaaay back in 1981 was take note. Doh!!!! I have just plain forgotten. (I have a feeling that the first version was the one with under pressure, directly under Q&DB, But I am honestly not sure?) |

Hi A Word in your Ear, No, no, a matrix number is not the same as a barcode! A matrix number is an alphanumeric code stamped or hand written (or a combination of the two) into the run-off groove of the record. In other words: a series of numbers near the lable of the single. |

Thanks Walter, I'll go have a look :) single with "Under Pressure" in the middle of sleeve Side A Says :- EMI 5250 A - 2 Side B Says :- EMI 5250 B - 1 Single with "Under Pressure" directly under Q&DB Side A Says :- EMI 5250 A - 1 Side B Says :- EMI 5250 B - 3 Please note that as I have had these singles since 1981 & I was in my early teens, so it is quite possible that the records have got swapped over in their sleeves, so if anyone knows on the sleeves alone, please do tell :) Thanks. |

Good old Woolies. I brought Cosmos Rocks from there in Sept.... In years gone by, from what I can remember I have had Live Killers double vinyl from there, Greatest Flix 1 on VHS, AKOM on CD, The Miracle t-shirt, At the Beeb Vinyl and a few CD singles. I just feel sorry for the people that have worked there. Our local Woolies is totally empty. I even had all my Star Wars men from there in the early 80s. |

This is new for me as well! The second version looks like the US version, but then again also not. As the US version is having the title even a bit lower than this UK one. |

These two Under Pressure singles were released in the UK by EMI and are not a US version. The first title sleeve to be released was the one with the title directly under the Q + DB name. The second version had the title further down the sleeve. A similar thing happened with the next single Body Language here in the UK. |

Never seen that variation before on Under Pressure. Didn't know there was a UK Body Language one either. If anyone who has them is bored, maybe you could scan them for Queenpedia? ;-) |

Hi Walter, When I bought these two records at the time there would of been at least a couple of weeks between the two pressings. Regarding the Body Language single. The first issue had the Queen logo in black. The second issue was in red. |

And here's the UK black logo cover too. Just so there is no confusion. The sleeves from USA, Holland, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany and Italy had the logo in just a black outline (clear inside). Mexico, Portugal and Spain had the black logo. And of course Japan and South Africa had totally different covers! |
