Has anyone noticed this yet? link Does anyone know what it does? Besides, I read on BrianMayGuitars.co.uk that both Brian and Jamie are playing the Brian May Super on tour. Link: link But the guitar on the pic doesn't seem to have any extra knob, it looks like a loyal replica. Was Jamie's guitar customized for him? |

Good question! I'd been wondering that too. I suppose it may control the tone of a particular pickup (in a current switching) rather than the main one being an overall tone change. Or maybe it's some kind of alternate way of messing with the phase between the two pickups. I'm not sure. But today, on my newly modified Hohner (with Burns Trisonics), I found that I can alter something between the 2 pickups I have wired up, with just the tone pots. It's not turning anything off because there's still sound when both are turned down. Maybe phase based!I think it's a fluke on my part that it happened this way, but hey, I like it! Adam. |

Isn't that where the volume control is on a strat? You can't do volume swells with the usual positions. |

I've got an extra special red knob! Oh wait, sorry, I misread the thread title! |

That picture shows it pretty high which would be a strange spot for that. It would also be easier to put in a volume pedal instead of modifying a guitar to include a higher positioned volume knob! The hands are too busy either picking, on the trem bar or holding a note on the fretboard. That guitar knob is proving an interesting piece here... Adam. |

I may be wrong but wasnt Brian May talking about bringing out a new type of Red Special. And might that be it that Jamie is playing. |

Yes it is where the volume control is on a strat, Jamies regular style of guitar. It used to be fairly common to see guitars customized and have the volume in this position. Almost certainly a volume control. |

Almost certainly a volume control.I think I looked at this wrong. I've just rechecked the picture and realise it's lower than what I remembered. It does look nicely in line with the trem and picking area, doesn't it? So, I guess it does make it nice and easy to get swells happening with ease while using the trem. Saves having to move far from that area down to where the usual volume pot sits. Interesting and quite nice to have cause it means you don't have to be tied to a volume pedal. Hmm... Adam. |

After reading Brian's Soapbox entry about his new guitar wired in parallel, has anyone wired their Red Special differently for a day yet, to see if there's any significant change? Or is it just guff? I mean, really! |

Or is it just guff? I mean, really!Dude...are you staking out my place cause I did that like a 2 weeks ago! I had my old Hohner about and also a set of my old Brian May Burns pickups hanging around. I really wanted them in the Hohner to give it an even more Brian-like sound. It's wired up parallel and it sounds pretty good. Hard for me to really explain, but I think it's got a better treble to it and also, it seems to have some interesting sounds to do with the tone pots. I'm not sure what I've done, but it seems to be phase related. The Hohner also has a special push/pull pot on the middle tone pot to give it a humbucker treatment to the bridge and middle. It all works very nicely. But...the electronics in the guitar are obviously needing an overhaul as I'm getting some hum on all settings. No amount of tinkering gets rid of it. :( I may have to completely rewire it which would be...ok I guess. Just means having to get all new pots (cause they're really scratchy) and some wiring. I hope to make it much better sounding. So, yeah, it's worth doing. But surprisingly, I don't find the clean sounds anything to write home about. Adam. |

Why do a lot of people these days seem to think Jamie Moses is some sort of celebrity? |
sarah.m 33304 24.09.2008 04:27 |
They dont, but the fact he's on stage with Queen will attract a certain amount of attention. He doesnt think of himself as a celebrity I can assure you! BTW, his 'extra knob' is a volume knob, the other one (which is in the normal position like on BM's guitar) is a DFA knob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
