Ummm....I'm no fan of McCain but I think that site has inaccurate info. It was actually the Ohio Republican party which sponsored the offending ad, not the McCain camp. But yeah... the old guy deserves to get scolded either way...
Remind me of the use of 'Born In The U.S.A' on the Reagan 84' campaign, which is not exactly the most patriotic of songs in the way Reagan intended it to be. I guess Reagan came across on that one as being born yesterday.
McCain should have changed the bass line and called it his own composition.
It worked for Vanilla Ice for four years, it could work for McCain. It would be funny to see him working as a mechanic in ten years.
Hey TQ: Since McCain and I lead your list of arrogance, could you let me know who in this world is NOT arrogant? I'm still curious as to how this ad campaign displays McCain's arrogance. Maybe give us an example of a US President who was NOT arrogant.
CLINTON: "I did not have sex with that girl"
BUSH: "Read my lips, no new taxes"
REAGAN: "Well, there you go again..."
NIXON: many sources
KENNEDY: again, many sources
TRUMAN: Boom. and then Boom again.
LINCOLN: Emancipation Proclamation
JEFFERSON: Shaggin' slaves and not hiding it, Aaron Burr, etc.
WASHINGTON: See every story about Washington
Another arrogant person:
Freddie Mercury
He flaunted it, and we loved every minute of it.
American presidents who were not arrogant (not including those who were either terrible presidents or didn't live long enough to become arrogant [William Henry Harrison, killed by his own inaugural address]):
(* George Washington - may have been arrogant, and at the least had aristocratic leanings, but was either very adept at hiding it, or basically a good guy)
* James Madison (although I'm not fond of him)
* Abraham Lincoln (if only for the way he dealt with generals with overblown egos (McClellan, to a lesser degree Hooker))
* Woodrow Wilson
* Harry Truman (the only president to slam the door in J. Edgar Hoover's face when the latter offered 'special favors' [illegal spying])
* LBJ (did not have the best judgement, but sure as hell wasn't arrogant)
* Jimmy Carter
Honorable citations for extreme arrogance:
* Jefferson Davis (CSA) - self evident, as his entire administration was based on the idea that he knew better than anyone else - except in those few cases where Lee got it wrong, in which case he accepted Lee's judgement.
* Teddy Roosevelt
