Inspired by a certain other thread *ahem* on this board, this is the place to discuss the pinnacle of Queen's work, their unique and greatest contributions to the world of rock. What is Queen's legacy?
Now, let me have a go:
(in no particular order)
1. Influencing important music styles, such as metal.
2. Pioneering music video.
3. Pioneering movie soundtracks by bands.
4. Live performances pushed the boundaries of music and showmanship.
5. Defied classification and appealed to diverse audiences.
6. Songs deeply embedded in people's consciousness around the world.
7. Challenging prejudice.
8. Maintaining highest standards of writing, production and performance, even through Freddie's horrible illness.
9. Gave creative freedom to four strong individuals in the same band.
10. Freddie is recognized as the greatest rock vocal by many, even those who don't listen to Queen.
These are more abstract accomplishments. I thought you were gonna go for something more tangible, like "1975: Released Bohemian Rhapsody, the first song to..." etc.
Which do you prefer? Both? I'd also be interested to see what your list would like using the more tangible model I described.
