Review: Great performance from this concert in Berlin 1979 during the European jazz tour. A complete concert without cuts or sound dropouts. Some slightly pops can be heard in some spots but nothing to worrie about. The soundquality is Very Good/Very Good+ so it is very enjoyable. The concert was a slightly bit recorded to loud so it has a bit distortion. Most of the distortion is on disc 1 as disc 2 has a slightly better soundquality. Freddie says before the start of the song Love Of My Life '' Roger and John are gonna have a rest backstage...I think they are gonna get there usual blowjobs...You know what blowjob is?...Some of you do, okay ''. Sounds very funny. (link Nearly excellent sound. Only thing that reduces the rating is the distortion especially on CD1. You can only notice it if you use headphones so it's not that bad. Very clear sound with no hiss, whatsoever. A very low generation copy. Nice to hear few lines from Fun It during the intro to Keep Yourself Alive. It was never performed live but only the first few verses during KYA intro. God Save The Queen is cut but otherwise a complete concert. This one has slightly better sound than the Breakdown Records release "Jazzin' For Deutschland". (link "Very good minus quality. Surprisingly long show. Brian introduces '39 and explains its meaning. Otherwise nothing special. Each song is very slighly cut (0.5 second) which is unpleasant." link Thanks for this beautiful share. |

Tragicalboy wrote: Brian introduces '39 and explains its meaning. That definitely didn't happen at this show. Brian was very discreet about the meanings of his songs back then. There's more info on this show on my website if you're interested. |

From, in my opinion, the best site about Queen, SirGH's link "There is a 13-minute silent 8mm video from one of the German shows, which is interrupted part way through with three minutes of silent footage from an unknown German '78 show. Here are the songs as I was able to pick them out (songs in italics out of order, but this is how they appear in the video): We Will Rock You (fast), Somebody To Love, Death On Two Legs (it switches to the '78 footage just after "now you can kiss"), Spread Your Wings, Dreamers Ball, Love Of My Life, '39, It's Late, Killer Queen, Bicycle Race, I'm In Love With My Car, Get Down Make Love, You're My Best Friend, Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock, Fat Bottomed Girls, Keep Yourself Alive, Tie Your Mother Down, Sheer Heart Attack, and We Will Rock You. Assuming Greg Brooks' revised book is correct, I can almost conclude that the footage is from Berlin. According to his setlists, Queen only played Fat Bottomed Girls after Brighton Rock three other times on the tour - Dortmund 1-21-79, Brussels 1-26-79, and Munich 2-11-79. The footage can't be from Dortmund, though, because they didn't play Love Of My Life that night. It can't be from Brussels or Munich either, because I carefully compared this video to the pro videos in certain spots, and they don't match. But there are also Kiel 1-18-79 and Hanover 1-23-79 which don't have known setlists, so there's a chance the video could be from one of those dates. Until we have sufficient information, we won't be able to draw any concrete conclusions. Freddie's voice isn't in the greatest shape for this early Live Killers show, but he still uses it to the best of his ability, delivering great versions of Somebody To Love, Death On Two Legs, and It's Late. Their vocal harmonies are beautiful throughout the show. Brian, before Somebody To Love: "Good evening, good folks of Berlin. Welcome to a night of Queen music. We hope you enjoy it." An awesome version of Now I'm Here is played tonight, as they go into the jam twice! After Freddie does a few nice vocal adlibs in the intro to Dreamers Ball, Roger does one an octave above his. Freddie jokingly calls him a "show off!" Before Love Of My Life, referring to Roger and John's absence, he dishes out the blow job joke, but it doesn't seem to go down nearly as well in Europe as it does in North America. Freddie, before Fat Bottomed Girls: "This is from an album, Jazz." Someone in the audience must have said Mustapha, as Freddie continues, "No, it's not Mustapha. We'd like to do that one of these days. Hey, maybe next time!" And they would! Recording length: 114 minutes (2 CD, complete) Quality: B+ Source: Audience Lineage: AUD > ? > CDR (x) Track listing: We Will Rock You (fast), Let Me Entertain You, Somebody To Love, Death On Two Legs, Killer Queen, Bicycle Race, I'm In Love With My Car, Get Down Make Love, You're My Best Friend, Now I'm Here, Don't Stop Me Now, Spread Your Wings, Dreamers Ball, Love Of My Life, '39, It's Late, Brighton Rock, Fat Bottomed Girls, Keep Yourself Alive, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down, Sheer Heart Attack, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, God Save The Queen (cut) This recording is really heavy in the bottom end, although it improves slightly after Get Down Make Love, making Brian's guitar a bit more audible. There is a cut and repeat (just 1 second) just before You're My Best Friend begins, so it is probably a slightly better transfer of the same source tape. After the tape flip following Don't Stop Me Now, the quality returns to where it was. The sound gets a bit worse after the next tape flip, following Fat Bottomed Girls. The recording is complete, except for God Save The Queen fading out early. CD, complete Quality: B+ Source: Audience Lineage: "Jazzin' For Deutschland" (Breakdown) Track listing: We Will Rock |

Which version is this one? By analysing the spectrum, we can see that it is remastered. I have another recording which is the same source, sounds more bassy but the spectrum is perfect. |
