TM, happy birthday! I wish you well! I find many of your threads or inputs quite interesting. May I try, not to give an advice, but share a personal experience with you? I understand you admire Freddie, and I admire him too, a lot. I study music since I was a little kid and I found out that the more we listen and learn with other singers and musicians, the more we improve our habilities, because Freddie, as great as he was, did have his shortcoming as a singer too, and that's good, because we know that it was a human being, just like us, who was able to create such incredible beautiful works of art! There are many singers, however, who possess qualities he didn't have, and the opposite is also true. I'm perfectly aware that you ARE a musician, that you've been studying music for a long time, but I think the more open-minded you get, the more you'll learn and the better you'll be able even to fulfill your desire of trying to keep Queen's music style going, and you'll eventually be able to enrich it, to make it more interesting and relevant to us, nowadays. I wish you well, I'm always happy to see people dedicating their time to study music and I do wish that you keep up with the enthusiasm and the studies without disregarding the huge musical realm which is out there, from hundreds of years ago up until now, and which you can greatly benefit of. Take care. : -))) Don't think about getting older, you're still young, come on! |

TM, I'm so sorry. It was partially my fault that things got to this point. I didn't realize it wasn't actually your birthday. Look, keep going with your music, I wish you well and there's nothing to be ashamed of with regards to being self-taught and not having a background on music theory. You don't need to know much to have fun, do what you like and enjoy music in general, you know that better than me. And there's always time for learning, TM! If you ever feel the need - I hope you do, fingers crossed!!! ;-)) - for studying music theory, I hope you like it and find it interesting, it's not as complicated as it seems and it's not as precise and accurate as some textbooks may imply! It's not something, well, you should feel threatened by, it's as interesting a topic as any other. I have been studying music since I was a kid, that's actually my life, and I'm almost as ignorant as I was when I started learning. Over time, a lot of things I took for granted and which were taught to me as the Truth turned out to be based on rather weak assumptions or just outright wrong or useless. There's so much to explore, learn, and even experience, it takes much more than a single life to begin to understand what music is about. There's a lot of interesting research going on, it's really exciting. A whole "world" out there waiting to be explored. It's a journey, and I think it's a wonderful one, and I'd really be glad if you joined it! I'm a "music fundamentalist". lol My apologies, and wish you the best! Bye, Bye!!! |

UPDATE My Bad Billy Preston had battled kidney disease in his later years, brought on by a lifetime of alcohol and drug abuse. Although he received a kidney transplant in 2002, his health continued to deteriorate. He died on June 6, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona, of complications of malignant hypertension that resulted in kidney failure and other complications. He had been in a coma since November 21, 2005. His funeral was held on June 20 at the Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, California. Preston is interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.
