ok people. i think it's total bullshit that over the past years we were made to believe that a box set was in the works. right? well it never happened and i think there should be some kind of an explantion to why it never happened. if the people at queen productions and hollywood records are afraid of sales then maybe they should only make it available to the die hard fans that a willing to buy it on line. im sick of waiting. they have alot of great queen material rotting in the vaults and they're keeping everyone from hearing it. thats not right. i guess it's all about the money and not the fans right? |
Serry... 26.04.2008 05:27 |
That's their right to do whatever they want with what they have in their archives. No any 'explantion's should be making neither. And let me ask you - what is 'fans right'? |

Heres my take. I think while Queen+PR is now a going concern there is no way that a boxset with rare and unheard of songs/bits/jams will be released. When the two remaining members +PR decide to finally call it quits only then, imho, the boxset will ever see the light of day. Either way, from a commercial point of view, theres no way you could release old Queen tracks into the market place alongside a new album, that wouldnt make any financial sense whatsoever. And honestly, i dont think thats unreasonable. |

Now that Q+PR is rolling along with a full head of steam, why would you want to distract from that by putting out a box set of old material? Once Q+PR has run its course, then we'll see a Queen box set--alongside the Q+PR set. ;) |

I totally agree |

The fact is that the remaining members of the band DON'T WANT to release the box sets. They had plenty of opportunities to release them before the Q+PR thing ever came about, and they had plenty of time to release the boxsets in 2006 or 2007 while Q+PR was inactive. It's as simple as that, and "distraction from Q+PR running at full steam" is nothing more than a convenient excuse you are using to fool yourself. |

Tero wrote: The fact is that the remaining members of the band DON'T WANT to release the box sets. And if they don't? Too bad for us. Queen wouldn't be the first band to decide that they don't want to make a big deal of releasing the stuff that they didn't think was even good enough to make it onto an album. It seems like there are a select few here who obsess over the box sets. The majority seem to either be apathetic to when/if the box sets come, or would rather not see box sets at all, as those would render almost all of the rare outtakes we circulate now official. |
Tero 27.04.2008 07:51 |
It would be best for all of us if they honestly said what they were going to do. Too bad Brian and Roger aren't that reliable guys. The fact is the boxsets were promised... I can live without them, as I've pretty much given up on any hope, and so has almost everybody else. You're the one still lying to yourself, and trying to convince yourself they're coming out once the Q+PR phase is over. |

Yes, that's right. They are just going to throw everything away. EXACTLY. They are like, "Eh. WE'RE not interested in this silliness anymore so we will just trash these things.". Right-o. |

There will not be any boxsets released in this decade unless you count the Platinum Collection being re-released for xmas. There are countless demoes out there, and why not experiment and compile your own sets. Hopefully they do because there are a lot of demoes out there like "Self Made Man" which i would love to hear cleaned up. At one stage in '89 the band were going to release "Another Miracle" which would have compiled the b-sides and 12" remixes off the singles but they brought out "Rare Live" instead.... |

- we are working on the box sets - it will be a rolling set list - Montreal extras are going to be awesome - Anniversary ANATO re-issue is going to be fantastic... See the pattern? |

you know, I don't listen to the Freddie box much anymore. Who here listens to that Barcelona outtakes disc and says "Ah, there's the gold!!!" And what of those Freddie Demos? Horns of Doom is burning up the charts right now, eh? You see, I wasn't too internet saavy back when I bought that $170 box set. I already had Mr. Bad Guy and Barcelona. I basically blew $170 to hear remixes and demos. Greg, it was a nice package et all, but I don't think I'll do that again for the same. And as each year passes, that likelihood goes down as well. Another thing. Why is Queen so behind The Game? Boxsets by Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Robert Johnson, Elton John, Chicago, Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Rod Stewart have been on my shelf for years. I even have a Men At Work box set. They had 3 albums and a 4 year career!!! C'mon QPL! |

I have thought about this theory about the lack of boxed sets, that, since Queen + is still active, it would distract from their efforts. But remember Coverdale/Page, everyone? Or Robert Plant's solo career? Or Page's tours with the Black Crowes? But remember that, before the Beatles Anthology set, there was a definite paucity of good Beatles stuff. There were reissues, sure. And there were those Past Masters. But it wasn't an avalanche of great stuff. I think it just defies logic. Or Jim Beach ran the numbers and it just doesn't work for him. I don't have memorized the vagaries of all the people who are in charge of what, but my guess why the wonderfully overdone Freddie Mercury Solo Box Set was done in the first place has to do with it falling under a different business umbrella or management deal. Remember Brian commenting on the Lover of Life release, saying he had no say in some of the aspects of it? Anyway, I do think it's a valid question to ask why there aren't any total ass-kicking boxed sets for us to drool over. I don't think burning effigies of Greg Brooksy is the answer to anything. He dreams of the boxed sets same as we do, The bottom line is just that: the bottom line. No fan petitions can change the winds of business. If Jim Beach et al. run the numbers and it's not there, it won't happen. Sorry to be so defeatist. It's just my way. |

It's leaving me wishing that Brian would learn to delegate... he really does not need to be there for quality control. He'll probably veto all the interesting stuff anyway. I want to hear the stuff he'd never let us hear, like him working out Prophet Song into a dictaphone (ala Sleepy Blues). I gave up my dream of there being a semi-Beatles Anthology style release for Queen.... a documentary in that style would've kicked serious arse but if you think about it they never took nearly enough behind the scenes footage to make it work. Still, you get out what you put in, I reckon. If they made a seriously worthwhile stab at a boxset, people would pay for it. I know this, because I'd pay for it and I don't pay for anything. |

Believe you me, Zebonka, I have the same daydreams of a boxed set. There's a term in the world of non-profits: Founders Disease. It happens when someone starts an organization and can't let go enough to let other people do things, and as a result the whole place becomes stale. Maybe that's what's happening in Queenland. I don't know enough about the corporate structure of, say, the Beatles or Led Zep, but there must be people down the responsibility chain who are inside those organizations who can put together mock-ups of whole collections and boxed-sets before presenting to Paul and Yoko or Plant or Page. I mean, we put up mock-ups of "Ultimate Roger Solo" boxed sets here every day. |
