As promised, here is the first year of the "project". This time I will share 2 concerts, the first one is from Golders Green Hippodrome in London, 13. September 1973 and Liverpool stadium 17. November 1973. Band : Queen Venue : Golders Green Hippodrome, London, UK Date : 13. September 1973 This is a 3-source compilation of this great recording. This is the oldest Queen live recording which made it to the bootleg market. Two older recordings are rumoured - Ewell College 1971 and Marquee Club 1972, but it seems that Ewell College doesn't exist (the recording is actually a slowed-down version of the rock'n'roll medley coming from this concert), and the Marquee 72 recording was sold to Queen Productions (but they claim now that the don't have it), which means that this is the oldest Queen show we can get. The performance is incredibble. The sound quality is absolutely excellent, the only problem is that Freddie's vocal is mixed too low, it sounds like the band is standing right before you, but Freddie sings from another room. But still it's very enjoyable. This show was bootleged many, many times, but never in complete form. The most complete version comes from the "Digital Queen Archives" bootleg called "Queen Will Be Crowned", which misses one line from the introduction, and has a couple of small few seconds cuts. When this recording was shared on QueenZone (link, QZ user "stark" remastered it and shared it again. This remaster was used by me in this project as "source 1". My "source 2" was a different rebroadcast of this show, I used only one line from the intro from this source. My "source 3" comes from the "Wardour" silver bootleg called "Pop Spectacular". This recording has much, much better sound quality then all other recodings, because it comes from a BBC Transcription disc. The bad thing is that it misses a big part of Father To Son, some speeches, See What A Fool I've Been and all songs after Liar. I have used all 3 sources to create this compilation which is now for the very first time COMPLETE and every track has BEST AVAILABLE SOUND QUALITY. The editing was done in Cool Edit Pro. The final wav file was split to single tracks, which were SBE fixed and encoded to FLAC with Trader's Little Helper. TLH was also used for FLAC fingerprints. I have added an Audiochecker log file. Enjoy Lineup : Freddie Mercury - vocals Roger Meddows-Taylor - percussion Deacon John - bass Brian May - guitar Lineage : Source 1 : SBD > BBC radio > ? > "Queen Will Be Crowned" (Digital Queen Archives) silvers > EAC > WAV > FLAC (Flac Frontend level 8) > WAV > Har-bal > Wavelab > FLAC (Flac Frontend level 8) - marked as * Source 2 : SBD > BBC radio (unknown rebroadcast) > ? > CDR (x) - marked as ** Source 3 : SBD > BBC Transcription disc > ? > "Pop Spectacular" (Wardour) silver - marked as *** Tracklist : 1. Good job Pittrek! I think the Portland's gig and the Rainbows one (in March) are both good shows in the 2nd tour. Cologne in december too. And just a idea: don't you believe it could be better to separate each topic by tour instead of by year? Whatever thx for everything! take care |
Queenrockyou 12.03.2008 05:59 |
Thanks for your work Pittrek, no the first year is online. I will have to wait before downloading but I am sure you made a very good job on this ! As far as 1974 is concerned, no doubt Portland could be shared in your "The Best Of the Best Of Concerts" series. Regards, Olivier, France. |
PBB 12.03.2008 06:23 |
Thank you very much. I already have Liverpool, as it was shared recently, november? I guess this version should be rated, as the definitive version then? :-) |

Thanks for this great shows. For the next year Portland is the best.I have it and it's brilliant. |

Great uploads! Essential for 1974 are indeed the Portland show and the best march Rainbow version. And Cologne is pretty good aswell. All these shows have been online in recent times though. |
pittrek 12.03.2008 09:07 |
Thanks for all the comments. -----> Could somebody create some artwork for this ? <----------------------------------------------- My plan for 1974 (next week) would be SirGH's 3 source compilation of Rainbow March 74 (no, it wasn't shared here I think) - if Bob has nothing against it, Portland 74 - I'm not sure if it was shared here in non-torrent form, and maybe I'll reupload my speed corrected version of Cologne ? |

The only difference in my version is a few seconds taken from the video of Son And Daughter. Is it really worth it...!?? :) |

Thank you very much !!!! I'll take a try with FLAC files....but somebody can tell me how to burn FLAC directly into an Audio cd? I get a "plug in" just like Olivier suggested to me, but I don't know how to install it with my Nero 7 (it's a .ddl file, extension of the aplication). Another question, maybe silly for some of you: If I can't burn FLAC directly and I have to convert them to WAV firstly, does it loses quality? I notify Wav is more heavier than FLAC but...Is the quality the same to make a losless audio cd? Thanks again Pittrek for your idea of "Best of the best" and your excellent post. Sorry my english. Cheers!!! |

So you can go back and forth as many times as you'd like and it will sound the same. Download a program called "FLAC Frontend" to convert them to WAV, and from there you can burn the WAV files to CD. |

It would be interesting to have a history of these recordings. For example when(the year) it has showed up on the bootleg market, or in collectors circuit. When did the complete recording appeared, if it was incomplete before etc. It's possible ? |

Finally, I get the plugin to burn FLAC directly. (with Nero into an audio cd). Here you can download it. link And here are the instructions to unzip the .ddl file: "Usage instructions: Download the plugins you need Nero Burning ROM version 5.5.9.0 or higher is required for all plugins. For Nero version 5, unzip the plugin DLL into "...\Ahead\Shared\AudioPlugins" directory. For Nero version 6, unzip the plugin DLL into "\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins" directory. Do not rename the files - The first two letters of the plugin DLL name must be "nx" in lower case, otherwise it won't be recognized by Nero Burning ROM. works fine" I still have a doubt about Flac: Level 8 is lossless than level 1 (I mean it's better) or level 1 is better than level 8? Sorry for that stupid question, but I stil need some more information. Thanks Sir Gh and pitrek for your answers... |

Welcome in the Flac world, Bo Alex, hope you will enjoy it !! Listen to good music without losing information on the way, trade the files with other fans to get other shows (provided you don't erase the files), make new friends, and so on... Enjoy it ! You maybe still have to learn about lineage now, last thing important. It might take you some tries before really understanding it all, but only a few ones, as these are new software to you maybe, and I am sure you will take benefit from it and enjoy Pittrek's shares for a start ! Glad you accepted to try yourself with the lossless format. So on your marks, go, download-download-download !!! ;o) Regards, Olivier, France. |

Queenrockyou 12.03.2008 18:27 |
Thanks little foetus for explaining this point. Also, as the Flac are somewhat compressed but without losing information, remember that when you compress using Winrar, you have to choose a level of compression (don't know how it is presented in english). You have to choose "no compression", or "store only" or something like that (in French it is "Stockage"). If you let Winrar compress the Flacs, they won't be that lossless anymore ! But back to the topic. I know about 5 concerts in 1974 : the Rainbow concert 31 March 1974, Portland 28 April 1974, New York 07 May 1974, Liverpool 01 November 1974 Cologne 06 December 1974 Bob's wonderful website talks about other recordings for 1974: New Orleans 21 April 1974 Waterbury 04 May 1974 Manchester 30 October 1974 Bradford 06 November 1974 Glasgow 08 November 1974 London 20 November 1974 Brussels 10 December 1974 Do someone know how do these gigs sound like ? Could they be added to 1974's shares as some of the "best RoIo's" ? regards, Olivier, France. |

little foetus 13.03.2008 05:31 |
Am I missing something? The Liverpool 74 is crappy in my opinion. Has a new recording surfaced? About New York 74, it is not so great in my opinion. According to me, the best sounding of 74 are: - The two recordings of March and November at the Rainbow. - Portland. - Cologne which is worse than the first recordings but which captures the whole performance in enough decent quality. Another which is quite nice is New Orleans and it includes GKR so it would be a great share. Although Portland is much better. The other recordings of 74 are from really crappy (Glasgow, Brussels) to below average. |
pittrek 13.03.2008 05:56 |

OK, I'm sad I missed the other ones from 1974, even if the sound is less interesting. I would be happy to see those gigs shared anew on Queenzone, I probably missed these ones because they were shared as torrents and not via rapidshare or mediafire. Do you think these gigs could be shared here, maybe not in the "Best Of The Best concerts" series Pittrek started here, but as separate shares, just to be more complete ? Anyone interested ? Regards, Olivier, France. |
