Hi,
At the risk of sounding totally stupid, can someone please help me and tell me exactly what this Brian May song is all about? Especially the line "approach me if you dare". I never had Brian down as the agressive confrontational type.
I have listened to the song and read the lyrics but I still don't get it any better. It was obviously written about a certain event which endangers wildlife or something, but which event was it and what exactly is Brian trying to say about it?
It's a good song from a great album, but I'd enjoy it more if I could understand it better.
Any information anyone can give will be very much appreciated.
Brian has always been confrontational when it comes to animal rights. This song looks like it could be referring to any one of the animal rights protests that he has taken part in although the line in question doesnt sound as confrontational as it may appear. Its asking whoever to "show him the light"
On the point of animal rights,i see there's another excuse for him not to gig in Scotland. link
This is what Brian said:
"Snares help Conservation? Oh yes, as you say, they "help maintain Scotland's world-famous £240m shooting industry." Well, how fabulous for you. I hope can sleep at night, with the thought of all those animals, wild and domestic, who will die in agony because of you. I hope you can look your children in the eye, when they ask you how you treat animals. Shame on you.
There is no hope, is there ... money is what counts ... the suffering of our fellow creatures ... apparently means nothing. We are still in the Dark Ages. Barbaric. Despicable.
Shame on you.

Queen played in Argentina when it had a fascist dictatorship in charge. They played in South Africa defying a UN ban. If BM chooses not to play in Scotland because of snares it will be as hypocritical as his constant moaning about gutter journalism, and then promoting WWRY in ...The Sun. His double standards have been well documented; his soapbox is an embarrassment at times. He's an eccentric, cranky weirdo. I am hoping there's some good music left in him though. I think the new album is make or break for "Queen".

I'm not an animal lover but i will never see an animal suffer, just the same as Brian does.I agree with him on that one.He is right to say about the Scottish government on that one.But they're elitist. What do you expect.I fear thats just another excuse not to gig up here.Time will tell
While Animal Rights or Conservation are dear to Brian's heart, I think you will find that this song has very little to do with either, but is more about his battle with depression. And his own -- rather complicated -- feelings about himself, his place in the world, and his relationships.

Thank you very much. I thought I was the only one who understood this song as a metaphor.
It has nothing to do with the wilderness... just like the 'Jungle' of Guns n Roses ;).
