Wow! Wow! Wow! I bought "Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid" and I am BLOWN AWAY at its awesomeness!!! Just the performances are amazing but the picture quality is PHENOMENAL!!! It is bone chilling and unlike any concert from that era that I have EVER experienced! Like many live performances there are without dought phenomenal ones that may not have the same picture quality but are still amazing just the same...like the other Queen conert d.v.d releases since the year 2003 starting with "Live At Wembley" to the reunion tour shows to now. Yes the cover sucks BUT it is great through and through otherwise fo' sho'! I also am thrilled at the credits being so cool looking and so great! They TRUELY look like major motion picture credits and THIS is how the other concert releases should be done as well. I can't stand that they don't have credits on them at the beggining and end. Good excuse to re-release them huh? Ahem. WHAT?!
Also waiting for the HD-DVD version.
Always impressed with the Pionner DVD versions, so this new restored transfer in high def should be something else. Can't wait
Hope they do BUDAPEST in HD, a MUCH better FILMED concert all round. After that there's no other full Queen concerts recorded on FILM that I know of.
Live at the Rainbow should be released just like Montreal in High Definition, if it has been filmed. It could be coupled with a regular DVD of Hammersmith '75 with not so good quality.
I think that's the only way we can get those other shows, as second discs to professionally filmed shows.
This Montreal+Live Aid release with two gigs of different years makes me think that this could be the way of releasing other concerts that might not guarantee a release on their own.
As i've mentioned in other threads, Rainbow was recorded on SD VIDEO and NOT FILM so would be pointless in high def. Don't believe everything Brian says. This is the version that is on the 'Box of Tricks'...Is there some unseen film version?
Obviously his memory is fading as it was the same VIDEO production company (owned by EMI/trident at the time) and Director that made the Bo Rhap VIDEO a year later.
It was made by 'Trillion Video Studios' and directed by Bruce Gowers. It has been well documented as back then it was pioneering times with the video format.

As I mentioned in another thred, the footage available from the March show appears to be shot on film.
I have the 2001 release and was unsure about buying this new dvd, but what the hell, its Queen right? WRONG!!! Oh dear, very poor indeed.
Now If i didnt own the 2001 release i think i would have been blown away, but i have and im not. All very very underwhelming.
With Queen Productions realising that everyone now loves Queen maybe its over for the fans that loved Queen whilst freddie was actually alive. Its like theres been some form of reboot and queen have just started again. Maybe the next release will be Rare Live.
Anyway if you must spend your hard earned cash on this at least buy it at Asda, its there for £7.63.

I don't think i've ever seen this footage.
The only one i've seen is the VHS version from 'Box Of Tricks' which is clearly recorded on video.
NTL
Thanks, yes it does indeed look like film.
Neverseen that footage before.
Were two Rainbow 74 dates recorded? One on video and one on film?
Seems a strange thing to do if it's the case.
They played there 3 times in '74, once in March and the two well known dates in November. This is footage from the March show although I have only seen MTR&R and Son & Daughter. Maybe this is what Brian was talking about.
