Stupid fucking thread. I'm sick of people trying to hijack the happiness that fans have found in Queen + Paul Rodgers. There are certainly those who don't like the collaboration, but I am one who very much supports Q+PR and am anxious to hear the new album. It sucks, but Freddie's quite dead. I have said this in similar posts, and I'll say it again: Paul has given Brian and Roger whatever motivation necessary to continue forward, as musicians. I am so thankful for the 2005-6 tour. Paul was absolutely fantastic - he's not Freddie, clearly, but fantastic in his own right. Should they record and release a new album? Why not? They already ARE. |

Only mediocre fans who are consuming-oriented support the release of this BM RT PR collaboration. There is a difference between culture and mass-culture but I dont expect those guys to know that. There is also difference between core art and business and I personally won't replace a French restaurant to McDonalds. The fast food generation will NEVER understand the quality of "sausages", that Freddie meant. However, even they understand that this leads to an increased level of cholestersol. I enjoy the idea of a joint album by BM RT PR only in a combination of the thought for a total flop so that they also know the money keeps rolling in all directions but this has also a price. I don't think this album will appear in the charts at all. |

Brian May and Roger Taylor are WONDERFUL musicians. They were, to say the least, as important as Freddie. If Freddie Mercury was the only talent in Queen, or MUCH more talented than the other guys, Ibex wouldn't have been a flop. Smile, which had Brian and Roger but NO Freddie was more successful than Ibex. I don't know how you old are, but I'm just seventeen (no pun intended), so I've never had the chance to witness Queen releasing new music. Made In Heaven was released when I was 4 or 5 years old. Rocks featured ONE new song and I was 6 or 7 years old... Now I can finally know what it feels like to see my biggest idols releasing a new album. Now I know what it feels like to check your idol's website every week for news on the album, and getting all excited over things like "It's going to be a double album", "We've already got 8 songs", "We'll probably go on tour again to support the album"... And then, when the album is out, I'll be here, wishing with all my heart that the album and tour will be successful enough so that they'll consider stopping by my country as well, and I'll finally see them live. When I was becoming a Queen fan, I got upset many times thinking about the fact that I was becoming a fan of a "dead" band, and I wouldn't see new songs out, and DEFINITELY wouldn't see them on stage, just a few meters away from me. The collaboration with Paul Rodgers is the biggest chance to change that situation - and let's face it, PR is doing a damn good job! For once Queen found someone who neither ruins their songs nor tries to sound like Freddie. Freddie was good, but Freddie "impersonators" can be just as irritating as 5ive. |

It was Freddie who said that his songs are disposable pop. Products of mass-culture, designed to be consumed. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's only you who seems to think that mass-culture is inferior to "real culture". Queen always had great tunes, even if they were extremely commercial. As for the new album, I think these guys are great musicians. Can't wait to hear what they have to offer. It's probably not going to be a big seller, though. |

Being 22, I'm excited about a new album (I wasn't at first, I admit) and I can't wait to see what the guys come up with. I also never imagined in all my years as a fan that I'd ever get to see them live, so when they played Toronto last year, it was dream come true. I sincerely hope they decide to tour again in support of the new album! |

Its not a taboo for a musician to compose new songs. but only thing that make me angry is the name of "QUEEN" for the band name. evevryone knows there is not/will not be queen. Brian may, Roger Taylor (and Paul Rodgers) is the best title for band. just like many other artists. |

He worked as much on the band as he could in his final days and he DID ask Brian, Roger and John to carry on. The last thing he asked the band was to keep working on the new album (Made In Heaven) and release it. John Deacon never argued with Brian and Roger. He decided to retire, and gave them permission to do whatever they wanted with the band and its name. He was even invited for the 2005/2006 tour. He declined it, but he gave them green light to hire another bassist and carry on with the project. And least but not last... The same feeling is alive. Of course they once in a while pay tribute to Freddie, they're all into the AIDS awareness thing, which they weren't before Freddie actually got AIDS and died. But in general, it's still the very same band. You can see an interview with one of them nowadays and an interview with one of them back when Freddie was alive, and you'll see they're pretty much the same. It's not like the Guns n' Roses. There isn't one selfish member who fired all the others and spent over a decade turning the band into a commercial flop while changing the line up practically every year and promising a new album for over a decade. |

For your information, since you asked, I'm 35, and I am from a totally different generation from your consuming one. Yep, they scheduled enter the studio in "October", but not set on stone the exactly day. they actualy are working for a few days now(3 or 4) and will be there one more week(at Least). Then go back to work when Paul returns to England in December for the Ertgun/Zeppelin Concert. Album should be finished on those sessions, middle December. |
