Without a doubt its got to be "Carry on up the charts" by The Beautiful South.
Paul Heaton is without doubt the best British songwriter of the last 25 years.
Queenrocks! wrote: Stars by Simply Red for me. Every track is just great especially Your Mirror. Reminds me of my childhood
I always found Stars to be an overated album, and I love Simply Red. I'd have to say that A New Flame is my favorite, and I also like Blue, follwed closely by Home.
Possibly A Day At The Races...
Or Les Miserables The 10th Anniversary Concert
Or The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust..
Or Get RID! by Robots In Disguise.
Basically, what I'm trying to say here is, I don't know.
The Labyrinth soundtrack wasn't British, but I think we can overlook that.

In no particular order (I couldn't say just one!):
A Day at the Races, A Night at the Opera, Queen II, Paranoid- Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin IV- Led Zeppelin,
Houses of the Holy- Led Zeppelin, Sgt. Pepper's- The Beatles, The Wall- Pink Floyd, Blizzard Of Ozz- Ozzy Osbourne, Memory Almost Full- Paul McCartney, Honky Chateau- Elton John...
I had to reply to Gem27 about his reference to The Beautiful South as utter shite.I checked your profile and could not believe you are 29?While musical taste is one thing,I can appreciate maybe not liking The Beautiful Souths music,to dismiss it as utter shite is to say the least, utter shite.
I have been a fan of Queen since 75,literally as I was forming my own musical tastes, and they will always be my number 1.But the music of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South is right up there with it for me but in a totally different way.Freddie was without a doubt THE Greatest frontman, amazing singer and good songwriter but believe me,Paul Heaton in the songwriting department is better and without a doubt the most under-rated talent Britain has ever produced.Listen to songs like Flag day,Build,Pretenders to the Throne,Old Blue Eyes is Back,One Last Love Song,The Table,The Slide.
You could ask all the songwriters in the world to come up with a song about A TABLE and they wouldn't come to close to the genius that is Paul Heaton. If just one person digs out that song,or others mentioned and they become a fan of Heatons I would be a happy man.
